Now the question is why did they bother hiding his car in the garage but left the Sewer Gators van right out in the open

I swear I was in that room lol. I wonder why I didn't take it.

Dam you went a long way without the shotgun then

Wait wait wait I definitely had a shotgun. I switched it from the statue thing near the beginning of the game. But there's apparently one you can repair with the repair kit...?

OK, now I'm confused.

Would you want that van?

Well something something Missing Persons around the area Something wait DEPUTY MUST HAVE WALKED RIGHT BY THE VAN WTF

Replace Broken Shotgun with Toy Shotgun

The shotgun you replaced the statue one with can be repaired and used. You find a toy replacement to place on the statue later on.

Ohhhh. I didn't realize the one you swapped out at the beginning was an actual shotgun haha. I must've though that was a model shotgun, too.

Oh well. I feel dumb now. Woo.

I thought the final boss was Lucas at first. Not the shack one, the final boss. I didn't hear the stuff about family the first time I beat it.

To raise questions on his identity, yes. If this was a BSAA chopper then it'd be much easier to believe that it's just Chris Redfield with a different photogrammetry actor.
But also, I just can't really see why Chris would want to withhold his full name. That's some black ops shit right there. That's out of character, just like him being a part of Umbrella. Both RE5 and RE6 has him regaining his dedication to fight against bioterrorism.

Otherwise they throw that away for some Captain America bullshit twist.

Black Ops shit would be to not even take the mask of and stay quiet. While him being in Umbrella is a weird thing we really don't know much about the current Umbrella Corps. Then there is the DLC which stars him as "Not a Hero". That to me implies that we play as a former 'hero' and it would be make sense to be Chris instead of HUNK or anyone from the villain team.

Then we also have the JP voice actor thing who is the one and only person who has done voice for Chris. This already makes me very skeptical of him not being Chris since it means he has the same voice as Chris. So only outcomes are basically a clone or that he is Chris. Having a clone again right after 6 would be dumb in my opinion.

Thats part of the decor. Need to look a bit like a serial killer but not too much.

Don't feel bad I didn't know you could do that first time either

I like that this game doesn't always treat you like an idiot and allows you to be an idiot

Oh yes like you have a party at your parents' when they're gone and you clean everything up too much that they get suspicious

Sprinkle some cow legs around and let's get the fuck out of here

It's such a no brainer having Billy Cohen and Sheva in Revelations 3. Billy is a badass and his backstory tied into progentior flowers in Africa. Shit writes itself.
His bavkstory is not written around them. I don't want old Billy returning god knows how many years later let him have his peace.

I get why people find Sheva appealing but i always got the impression she was just there so Chris could have a partner in co op

She was just there to curb any racist accusations about the game but it somehow worked because I thought she was a great character.

Haha, well at least I'm not the only one. Yeah, it doesn't hold your hand too much. I like that.

So...uh...was Lucas infected at all?

Lucas was infected. His regeneration is apart of it. It's just that once cured of the mind control he didn't become a good guy as his evilness wasn't a symptom. He's just a piece of shit. The journal in his room proves that from a young age he was a dick.

IIRC he was infected but Umbrella Corps/Sheng-Ya gave him some sort of antidote to combat the mind control elements of Eveline's abilities so he can watch over her and report the shit that goes on.

Edit: I'm so slow.

Yes, First scene you watch with the family his arm gets cut off.

He was just given something to take away Eveline's mind control.

That fucking cow leg/saw gate is some serious shit. I still don't get why Ethan went through that.

I really liked the scene with Jack and Zoe in the living room. It was cathartic. Jack is such a good character going from terrifying to hilarious to comforting.

Does Zoe appear in the vision if you cure her?

I was heartbroken I didn't get to hunt down Lucas, I was looking forward to whooping his ass

Money says the Not a Hero DLC will be Redfield vs Lucas.

Was anyone else a little heartbroken when old Evie says "Why does everyone hate me?"

Yes, that was kinda touching. Too bad they ruined it with the "damn you, damn you all to hell" line right afterwards.

I also like how the picture of old Eveline with the "E-001" you find at the end it's the same you find 10 minutes into the game in the same place. They totally expect you to forget about it so that it only makes sense at the end. I know I totally forgot.

Even though there's a quick tab for combining I still do it the old fashioned way cause it just feels right. I refuse to succumb to your over simplification!

Was anyone else a little heartbroken when old Evie says "Why does everyone hate me?"

Not at all. She's sadistic, enjoys murder, and breaks people's minds by forcing them to mutilate themselves or others until she has full control over them. She's completely incapable of empathy and only cares about what she wants. I guess, you could say she was programmed to be that way. Maybe I fele kind of bad that she was made using a human embryo, so she's partially human.

On a separate note, only on my madhouse run did I notice the dialogue from Mia's flashback where she says that Eveline is degenerating due to not receiving treatments. I guess who ever created her didn't realize that not only does her aging accelerate, but she becomes utterly insane due to lack of treatments! Other than that, it's hard for me to rationalize how her creators wouldn't understand that it's a huge risk to allow her to travel with people who aren't able to "treat" her (whatever that actually entails).

I finally finished the game the other night and absolutely loved my experience up until the end. Some key takeaways for me:

- It was disappointing to have to fight through a gauntlet in the salt mines and it just felt too "action-y" compared to the rest of the game.

- It blew my mind to find out you could drive the car in the garage. I tried a few times but didn't have enough time to avoid being pulled out by Jack.

- I completely missed the scene at the beginning where Jack can cut off your leg. I ran through the hallway first. I made fun of a friend for that happening to him, only to have a Molded cut off my leg in the salt mines...

- I was definitely confused by the whole storyline with Ethan. He seems to be a shitty person in general, but he also makes a comment that suggests he's infected. I'm curious to see what happens to him

- I was really annoyed to have to read like 20 pages of documents in the salt mine. It felt like they could have found a more interactive way to present that information.

I was going to end this post with a question about whether or not that was really Chris at the end, but I see that debate is already raging on. I'm really excited to play the "Not a Hero" DLC in Spring and hopefully find out. Anyway, where do you guys and gals want to see the series go next? Personally, I want an RE8 to have multiple protagonists but still focus on cat and mouse gameplay. It was really fun and nerve wracking to be chased by the Baker family.

Huh...I must have missed a lot in the salt mines. I didn't read a whole lot it was just a bunch of enemies then up to the house and the final boss.

I was too busy killing/running/repositioning. Didn't realize there was anything to read. I'm not to keen on how they backloaded all the plot at the end. Real easy to miss stuff, especially when they do it during a "gauntlet" of enemies. Same thing happened in the boat when they give you zero weapons. You have to run, but there's interactables you can read.

Just beat the game last night. Overall, just a great, terrifying experience that brings RE back to basics. I think it was important that they threw out all the conventional RE trademarks and went for an everyman stuck with a disturbed family.

A few things I didn't like were all in the third act.

I really was expecting to fight Lucas after going through his maze of traps. It seemed odd that all of the sudden Jack Baker was this giant blob. Would have been creepier if he still retained his angry dad human form.

I didn't feel it was necessary to play as Mia through the ship. Ethan's entire journey is to find out what happened to his wife and I thought he should have been discovering the backstory behind his spouse's deceit and how far it ran. The whole ship part was a bit tedious in item collecting IMO.

I wish there was more detail of the science behind Evie. You kind of glaze through the lab and then instantly create a serum to deactivate the E-series. Take out the ship and making a creepy bio lab in the mines would have worked better for me.

Still, Capcom has to be applauded. It's an excellent restart to the series and I was blown away by the graphics, genuine scares and their willingness to make it beyond creepy. Wouldn't mind if it stayed in first-person for the sequel.

so was Eveline created to be a BOW or was she just a kid off the street that this organization turned into a BOW? i assume this is explained in previous REs but i've only ever played 4 and 5. either way, i feel bad for her. especially when she gets injected with the necrotoxin and asks why everyone hates her. feels bad man. she just wanted a family and to be loved : [

edit: of course someone brings that line up a few posts up. i should read more.

Man, how bad was that "choice" thing with the serum? If you choose to save Zoe nothing afterwards makes any fucking sense. How did Mia suddenly appear near the ship when she was left behind at the dock? Why even have a choice back there? So dumb.

Jack back to his senses suddenly appearing in Ethan's dreams of whatever to explain things to him was also kinda lame.

And where the hell is Lucas?

Yeah, but seriously was that Jack talking to Ethan near the end a dream or something? What the hell was that?

Yup, my two biggest gripes with the game as well. Felt like retreading mechanic-wise on what you already had done early in the game (finding items but this time as Mia) but then was super story-heavy as well.

I would've preferred Ethan figuring out stuff at a bio lab or something as well. I think it would've worked better as an exposition as well.

Yeah, but seriously was that Jack talking to Ethan near the end a dream or something? What the hell was that?

Hivemind collective consciousness or Ethan's flashback(just like Mia during the ship section) before the dinner scene where jack broke free for a brief moment.

So beat the game and am confused about a couple things (gonna assume I don't need to spoiler tag stuff):

-Was there an actual Grandma? Since the woman in the Wheelchair was Evelyn. My guess is there was but she died sometime between 2014 and 2017.

-Any ideas on what the evil corporation Mia works for is. I know there's been several Not!Umbrellas, at least in the movies.

-Who is the 'Third Party' Lucas is communicating to that is mentioned over the radio? Is it the corporation running the experiments? Related, is he the one informing on the Bakers/Evelyn? If so why does he still have regenerative abilities when he said he was cured?

-Why is the chopper labelled 'Umbrella Corporation'? Shouldn't it be BSAA?

Anyways as much as the Plot is kind of thrown into the back third of the game, I didn't mind it too much beyond some of these details being opaque. ForceGhost!Jack explaining things... I like it in one sense that it shows they were decent but in another it is kind of lame. I do think like the choice, and my extension playing as Mia ends up being pretty superfluous since they don't end up sticking with it.

It's like... I didn't not enjoy the final bits, but everything after the Mutant Jack fight felt like "Oh shit we need to rapidly end this game" and some of the reveals while intrinsically decent are a bit lackluster in execution.

Also I sort of expected from the "You don't love him line" (and that he sees Evie hallucinations) that Ethan was also a Bioweapon, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Which is complete nonsense because Jack and Zoe are both dead at that point and there's nothing about people who get infected are able to talk to other infected people beyond the grave, or even while they're alive. There's really no explanation for it in the story - but I don't really care because it's the most emotionally effective scene in the game (there aren't many). Poor Jack. Nice animation and voice acting there.
