Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

Correct. It's for the player's benefit, not Ethan's.
Again, this makes no sense unless you only think of it as a game thing. The first video just sits on that computer? The second does too? Why record it? None of that makes sense.

The first video is Ethan watching it, because you never watch it as Mia aboard the ship. Hence my assumption that it's some sort of video sharing service she's logged into, as you can see the first video uploaded right above the second.

wait, how could anyone possibly thing it was ethan watching in the opening of the game, you CLEARLY hear Mia breathing as she records it O_o

Like...what? No seriously...what?

It's obvious Mia recording herself during the second video, but some people are arguing that Ethan never sees the video that Mia explicitly records with the sole purpose of sending to Ethan.

Also, the first video isn't Mia watching it, because Mia never watches the first video. Or the in-game version edits out stuff, like when she watches the first video and when she sends the video to Ethan afterward. The only argument for the idea that Ethan doesn't get the video is that you don't explicitly see her send it, but we know that the in-game version doesn't show everything.

Mia probably told Zoe about the Serum. Mia knows about it from Alan and you have the necrotoxin case during her tape on the ship. My own question : Mia and Alan work presumably for Umbrella (they had a codex watch the guy at the end calls you on) and they were carrying Eveline to another facility because they were afraid she would get kidnapped. She's the latest E model of the toxin. So why do the baker have a D baby foetus?

No more RCS burns me.

I'm gonna have a really hard time accepting someone else, especially because he almost definitely would've done it.

Yep, one can only assume the video you see at the beginning is for the player to know she went missing and maybe Ethan got this video at some point, but clearly can see her hands all messed up and hear her breathing when recording it. Even if she did watch it before making the new recording, would have been a huge waste of time during the vhs segment.

So I guess no one knows why Zoe was not affected by Eveline and why she was with 'normal' Jack if she wasn't fully affected by her hallucinations?

My guess is that she was like Mia and could be a normal person at times unlike Jack and Marguerite.

I guess that explains how Zoe knew about the serum. And I guess the Baker's got the failed D bodies from the ship? Why? Who knows?

Wasn't there a note about the D-arm before you enter the rooms leading to it? Like it was given to someone by I'm guessing Evie to safeguard.

Why does Capcom recast RE voice actors/actresses so much? It's not like they constantly reinvent these characters over and over to the point where you need someone else to do it.

At this point it has to be laziness or extreme penny pinching.
It's not like they hire VA's that cost a lot outside of RE6 with Jennifer Hale and Troy Baker.

Capcom strikes me as a company that will drop a VA quick if they don't agree to the payment on the first draft, or if they don't wanna bother working on their schedule.
But then again it seemed like with RCS they didn't even contact him.

There is a case on the boat for a D-Series that's empty. Presumably the Bakers took it either out of curiosity when they found Eveline, or under Evelines instructions.

Damn the disrespect. Seems dumb to build these characters up with these voice actors and then change the actor for no reason.

It's definitely one of their biggest issues by far with the series.
Let the characters solidify. People like the voices, it's such a pain to change them. Especially when the older actors still want to do them.

Vast minority here but I enjoyed RE6 far more than RE4...

RE4 is definitely the better game technically, but RE6 for the most part is an extremely fun experience which Capcom stuffed so full I actually felt bad and like a thief.
I wish 6 & 5 had the flow and in-world nature of 4 but I definitely enjoyed them more than 4.

Its probably the element David Hayter used to bring up a lot.
Returning actors get an increase for repeating gigs.
Hayter suggested that the price after his repeated increase might have bumped him over Jack Bauer's base pay.

To this day I don't get them dropping Paul Mercier(RE4 Leon & The Merchant)
He is doing literally nothing, Socom is dead and his last main starring role was Ace Combat in 2011.

Surprised there was no datamine of the Steam version yet like there was for the demo. Curious about the DLC now. I guess it will be "Redfield" hunting down Lucas because he gives his research to their competitor.

I enjoyed the game a lot but I felt like they ran out of money and time 2/3 of the way through. Once you fight Jack for the last time, there's no more stalker, you play the ship part twice (one in the mandatory) to stretch it a bit and the salt mine is basically a long corridor you run while dodging monsters. I liked that Lucas was simply purely evil/insane and was basically running test for Umbrella and/or that third party on the side while Eveline was creating her warped family.

It's still too early to be talking about voice recasting as we don't even have confirmation it's the same character.

They really need to get that Not A Hero DLC out ASAP.

With RE6, they shifted the gameplay even more so towards action, but made significant missteps during the execution. The campaign doesn't let you utilize the melee to its full potential- if anything, the encounters penalize it. Why attempt melee when ammo is plentiful and far-off enemies can knock you on your back mid-combo? And the inventory system is cumbersome even compared to RE5's, which let you assign weapons/health items to the D-pad for quick access in the heat of combat, as well as store unneeded items instead of having your entire arsenal clog up an already stifled backpack? And placing first aid sprays with grenades and remote bombs, why?

I wanted to love RE6. Third-person combat is my thing, I enjoy it more than the old-school RE's for that reason.

the hell was the point of even giving you the choice of curing zoe in the first place

On a second playthrough you more or less know Mia is part of the whole mess in the first place so you can choose to save someone that had nothing to do with it? Too bad they've half assed it.

The same can be said about Mia, but yes Zoe being cured but not really cured was really useless.

Zoe, didnt care about her family either and just want to run away , she didnt care about ethan but the samples

Eh its still valid with how often it happens, and Chris's voice is different in Vendetta.

RCS as Chris had the longest run of appearances.
RE5
Darkside Chronicles
RE6
Marvel vs Capcom
Revelations

Save Zoey, who reveals herself to be Evie, who reveals herself to be Cthulhu, who reveals itself to be a failed clone of Chris Redfield dumped into the bayou. Real, now incredibly photogenic Chris appears to join forces with you against it, which is not at all like the plot to Megaman Zero.

The ship and final boss are definitely the worst parts of the game.

The victory march through the mines was fine. After the ship I just wanted the game to wrap up and let me wreak havoc.

The four-legged molded on madhouse are also horseshit. They kill you so quickly and their kill point is small and they can jump around corners.

6 having the RE name really hampered what they could do I feel. Like they wanted to keep some horror elements but they so badly wanted to go full action but couldn't because of the name. That's why mercs is the great it's just pure combat and why RE going back to survival horror is for the best. The combat can live on in a spinoff or new series.

Completed it early today. Some lingering thoughts and questions:

  1. What sets Marguerite apart from Jack to have both a limited threshold in both retaining her form and amount of mutations? There are hints of her being more adversely affected by the mold in her body, but the final documents make that sound normal.
  2. I'm still jumping between many later game elements being cut/dropped or theven game being ridiculously underdeveloped. Zoe is dropped unceremoniously through a choice illusion. Lucas follows suit. End credits shows concept of a church and hooded followers. Evelyn is underbaked.
  3. The insects had mutative indicators, being hyper aggressive and some large by even the South's standard. Why is the rest of the rich wildlife either dead or absent instead of undergoing similar aspects? Why were they even affected and Marguerite given ability over them, not to mention having a hive for a womb?
  4. Aside from seeing larger plants, there was little done with their mutation despite it being a staple of the E-Series.
  5. The game makes a big deal about this lie between Ethan and Mia, but it may as well have not been touched on at all. Perhaps a sequel is already lined up to explore it more (and Ethan's identity), yet it makes things seem hollow in this entry.
  6. How does Evelyn not know about Lucas?

Why does Capcom recast RE voice actors/actresses so much? It's not like they constantly reinvent these characters over and over to the point where you need someone else to do it.

There doesn't seem to be any real reason behind it, they just do it. For example Ada's original voice actress was used in 2 and 4, but then they replaced her in UC only to have her back in DC... and again stop using her for all games after that. Funnily enough, she was hired to dub over Li BingBing's Ada in the live action films.

Then you got people like Paul Mercier who voiced Leon in RE4, only for Capcom to replace him in RE6 with a voice actor with pretty much the same last name, Matthew Mercer, who said that Capcom voice directed him to mimic Mercier. He wasn't the only one either. According to D.C. Douglas, all the various Wesker voice actors were instructed to mimic the previous Wesker voice actor instead of Capcom just... bringing them back.

Alyson Court was the last long-standing RE VA, having voiced Claire in all of her appearances. She loves Claire and when the trailer for Revelations 2 dropped and people asked her on twitter why she wasn't voicing her her legit response was very "What the fuck, Capcom?!" She wasn't contacted at all and, considering her reliability in the role and her love for it, there wouldn't have been any scheduling or budget concerns probably with her.

Capcom just doesn't give a damn. The same thing is happening with their models too. Julia Voth, who was used as the face of Jill till Revelations, also loves being the face of Jill and has talked in various live streams and twitter that she has no idea why Capcom stopped using her face. She says there's no rights or contract issues and Capcom is allowed to just use her face for the character. They just stopped because they felt like it.

  6. How does Evelyn not know about Lucas?

My guess is Series E was designed to take control of humans instead of other species, Eves main ability was to control humans by spores like the Cordyceps, I guess the rest of the wildlife got killed by the family and didnt get allowed to evolve except for the insects which margerie was taking care of.

I think Lucas is simply faking it for her. Like even if he's cured he still see her in his mind and fake it. He does it when you watch him on TV in the party area. I don't think Evelyne reads mind, she simply indoctrinate and make people go insane.
