Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

The end parts were not as bad as I thought, it was alright, didn't hurt the experience I had with the game. 7.5h IGT.

Ethan is kinda awesome. So why is this thread so big ? What is the main point of discussion?

Basically, how stuff works, how things happened, character motivations.

For me, it's half the fun with these games.

Just finished it, still in the credit roll. I gave the cure to Zoe, how different is the other choice in terms of story if I gave it to Mia? Enough to warrant another playthrough (may play through it again anyway since it was fun).

Finally beat this. Absolutely loved it and it's going to take a lot to top this as my favourite game of the year. Really enjoyed the story as well. It's absolutely a top 3 RE game.

This is the tone I want from the series moving forward. Handle the old cast and action in spin offs but THIS is the direction I want to see primarily.

Had a smile on my face reading those lab documents and seeing HCF mentioned.

Looking forward to the Hunk DLC mainly next.

Is that Chris? Is Ethan a Level 9 Umbrella scientist who faked his death? What's with that weird vision sequence? What's wrong with Lucas? Who the hell builds this shit?

Some day I'll do a legit Madhouse run. That day is not today. They should call the circular saw the Baker Buster.

RE4, REmake,

RE7 sitting by those two seems wrong

People are getting hung up on the "dream" bit. It's not really a dream, it's the connected consciousness between Eveline and those who are infected. The reason Jack and Zoe are in it, despite Zoe being alive or dead, is that their consciousness is "stored" within the mold when they were infected, so that's how you can see Jack's original personality. It's not an afterlife.

I want a dlc where you play as Jack and you have to run around welcoming as many people to your family in a time limit.

So,can we assume the whole incident was just a test by Umbrella? They've been monitoring the Bakers for 3 years but i'm still not sure why they send troops to search and kill Evelyn all of a sudden, they could've done that a long time ago.
I think it has to do with them finding out that Ethan and Mia were there,if this is the old Umbrella we all know they would've shot both in the face at first sight.
Maybe this is just me but it was kinda strange when ethan said 'what took you so long?' to the umbrella agents,as if he was one of them too. Also, chris revealing himself to a,supposedly, random civilian like it was nothing, why would a agent from a super secret organization do that?
Still no idea what is Chris'role in this game,is this Umbrella a new undercover agency created by him? hard to believe he would let people die just to test the new virus because judging by the chopper photo in the demo they've been monitoring the area for a long time like i said before.

I'm looking at it in a general sense. RE4 changed the face of the gaming landscape, while d REmake perfect what the original sought out to do.

It remains to be seen if RE7 will have such an impact.

I liked RE1 more than REmake. Because of the art design combined with the camera angles I couldn't see jack shit on my first playthrough... I ran into what turned out be a dead end, only to be attacked by the zombie I just avoided. Didn't want to play any more.

so much this.I dont get why people claim jack and zoe are alive, especially jack. Ethan has the dream while cocooned because he was connected to evie who was connected to the Bakers. Its a common trope in fact.

Alright so quick question regarding people's interpretation of
the dream sequence with Jack and Zoe

Jack is totally dead right? Zoe undetermined (Mia Ending). I don't quite believe this is down the collective consciousness of the mold more then it is unexplained movie magic to get the plot moving.

At this point I don't know
whether Zoe is dead (Mia Ending) - same with Lucas -
but I have a feeling we'll soon find out in the DLC

In that case there would be no game that comes close,Resident Evil or not,a game is valued by the experience of the user first and foremost . If someone wants to say RE7 is among their favorite RE games or among the best designed he/she has the right to say it without sounding "wrong".

I think the last hours put the game down a fair but but it stills sits comfortably at a middle tier among the RE

Re7 currently exists in

" It exists, but does not offend me tier"

I think thematically it lacks a lot of the charm I like about the series to be something else. But there is a bit of mystery I find interesting, but for me that isn't enough to keep me interested. But I find it on a technical level to be an ok game.

So it exists, it also does help most of whats going on is going to be " you will find out in the next game" tier . And i'm kind of not fond of that, then again that could be said of RE6 a game who's final boss for two of the main stories rasies way more questions than answers. I didn't like like it in that game either, but i'll be fair.

That's the spoiler thread, no need to use spoiler tags.

In the good ending Jack and in the bad ending both jack and zoe received the cure. After 'dieing' they just turn into stone which doesn't crumble (in contrast to jack's wife for example). So they might still be alive, in a way.

Lucas on the other side is for sure still alive. The last thing we learn is him running into the salt mine, probably to get some more data for the ominous third party.

Not every game can be as revolutionary as RE4.

I think RE7 was a necessary spring cleaning for a franchise where the president became a zombie and Shanghai got virus nuked. RE6 escalated things to a point where they could not go any bigger and crazier. It needed to burn the slate clean and scale things back. And I think it revitalized interest in the franchise. I see more positive discussion around RE7 than I did about RE6. Sure there's gonna be growing pains just like when the fans didn't take kindly to the shift toward smart ganado enemies and action gameplay of RE4. But RE7 is the paradigm shift that the series needed desperately.

Here's the thing. With RE7, I couldn't wait to play more of it Everytime I had to stop to go to work or go to sleep. Even though I was terrified I still felt this urge to play more of it. I never felt that with RE6. Whenever I took a break with that game, I never felt a strong urge to get back into it. I felt, eh, I could take it or leave it, don't have to beat it immediately.

I don't think every game needs to have some sort of powerful impact like that. Just boils down to what you find enjoyable. That kind of thinking actually leads to a lot of the big changes that people tend not to like in franchises like this one.

Well, Jack is the only boss who doesnt desintegrates after being dry, he maybe is still alive but in stasis like the coocon guys in RE5, Zoe body just fell down the boat but we dont see her desintregate I think.

Mia desintegrates if you dont cure her,

2 and REmake are my top 2. I really like 4 but it's near my top 5 because of how influential it is. There are other RE games I like more.

That definitely wasn't me with the bolded, but that's besides the point. Since I understand that in a sense the series perhaps needed a reboot just in terms of how big things had been escalated as you said. But i'm still going to say that perhaps the series could have still lived on with action as a focus. Even if said action style was scaled back itself. I always took RE6 as more of a disappointment quality wise than anything relating to it's action. Had the game been action and of a high quality too. I think a lot more people would have cut it some slack back then.

Gonna just respond to everyone who quoted me in this one post.

I know it's all opinions and such.I wasn't saying he was wrong for his opinion. Which is seemed people took it as. He didn't even say what his favorite RE titles were. Which is what I clarified in my later post. Since those are the main two titles I see mentioned the most in terms of their impact. Though you can kinda throw the original RE1 in there as well since it started that whole style as well. Regardless wasn't trying to start anything, and probably should have better elaborated on my original post in the first place. People can like what they like, and I can dislike what I dislike.

Resident Evil 4 is still by far my favorite, although I love REmake. I've never played 2 or 3, but if I were to replay a RE game in a week or two it'd be 5 or 7. So it's close to top 3, I guess it depends on if it's coop.

So other than Umbrella picking up Ethan at the end, and some guy who identifies himself as "Redfield" what other connections are there to the series as a whole?

RE7 is in my top three, but that is not saying much between RE3, 4, 6 and the two Rev games.:P Overall it is not close to RE4 level, but probably around RE3 (been a while since I went through that one through).

Vast minority here but I enjoyed RE6 far more than RE4...

Painting of the arklay mountains. A newspaper written by the reporter character from Outbreak, Racoon City is referenced in a news clipping.

Those are a few Easter eggs that stood out.

Yep same for me. I love the REmake as well but I don't enjoy playing it as much because I keep forgetting what I'm supposed to do.

REmake is interesting, on the whole its probably my most enjoyable RE game- but some of the puzzles are just obtuse and almost impossible I feel without a walkthrough. But when you know how to do everything, the game becomes much more fun on replays.

Also someone said that most of the names dropped in the research notes at the end are from previous games.

Ethan W may be a character referenced in RE5 too

RE4 was the pinnacle of action RE to me. Hell, it's what introduced me to the series. The series has sadly failed to build upon and deliver anything as good as that to me. Each sequel was further step away from what I loved about RE4. The Dead Space games delivered that to me when Capcom couldn't. I think Capcom had their chance with action RE and just about flexed all the muscle they could in that direction. So I am perfectly fine with them taking it in a different, if nostalgic and controversial, direction.

Like I don't mind the shift back. I do like the older games. But I definitely prefer action.
Still with that said, I do hope RE8 at least for me is a more solidified idea of what they did with RE7. I liked 7 at it's base. There was just a lot of odd things that didn't sit well with me. Though they don't seem to bother other people as much.

If RE6 let you hotkey weapons to the D-pad, store unneeded items for later, didn't have that knockdown effect when you lost a block of health, had less ammo in general, could let you upgrade weapons instead of the almost trivial (on your first playthrough) skill system...

And condense all the campaigns into a single, somewhat cohesive one (barring Ada's).

The enemies looked silly, but they were still more interesting than the molded. Fatties reminded me of Leopa-fart-gas-whats-its.

I must say that the word "Lab" in that map gave me some serious blue balls afterwards.
I guess lucas building a super high-tech lab on his own would be kinda dumb but i'm still a little dissapointed.

Why do I think these will be third person? Since it's not VR compatible...

I doubt that. There's probably just some weird oddities to them, or they just didn't feel it was worth giving all the modes VR support to try and get them all out at the same time.

A lot of the molded are like low rent better BOWs from the series.

Regular molded is like a combination or Regenrators and Ooze
Crawling molded are straight up lickers.
Fat molded definitely looked like Leopatas or whatever. But they throw up instead of gas
