Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

But nothing like Natalia

I've been killing everything I see on Normal. These complaints about too little ammo just don't fly, and that was true during my initial blind playthrough as well. Old-school RE did the same thing- just enough ammo to get by early on, then you had binders fulla bullets.

Are you familiar with the term "handler"?

Well,
Natalia is a girl so maybe ... ?

God, I really dislike Revelations 2 and all the convulted plot, let Barry live a happy life

Resident Evil 2 is the only game where the main characters aren't a part of a paramilitary organization or corporation of some sort.

RE0 - STARS, RE1 - STARS, RE2 - Police rookie and some dude's sister, RE3 - STARS, RECV - Former STARS, RE4 - Secret Service, RE5 - Anti-BOW organization BSAA, RE6 - BSAA, Secret Service, and people who had been infected with virus strains, RE7 - BOW scientist/handler in Mia, Likely BOW scientist in Ethan

Amazingly, it checks out.

As long as Barry has his magnum, he's happy. And the daughter-reconciling thing but whatever.

Back to my other point, I think what it is, is people comparing their first playthrough of RE7 to the classic RE's which they've likely completely many, many times. So they remember having more ammo and health items because well, those games are only really difficult your initial run. Knowing is most of the battle.

The basic zombies in REmake would eat almost an entire handgun clip.

Are these characters from the RE7 Cedec presentation in the game?

He also pointed out multiple fake leaks of the soundtrack.

Which is a shame, 'cos I liked the Marguerite boss one. Was catchy as hell, too.

Is there anything in the game that mentions Ethan having a scientific background?

I guess there was his nonchalance at Zoe mentioning the arm and leg for the cure

I really wish they had tied Eveline into something established rather than something new.

I have a cursory knowledge of Resident Evil's lore, but Las Plagas seems like a good fit.

You could have it so that a new organization discovers the Las Plagas parasites. They decide to weaponize it, and incubate it in a human from birth for immunization and more direct control. Same basic premise, as Las Plagas essentially allowed mind control.

Eveline is a successful test subject, but suffers more and more side-effects, becoming colder and crueler due to the pains of the process and lacking a childhood. That would avoid the 'we made her look like a child to be a better weapon' weirdness.

Same order of events. Eveline goes AWOL, Mia goes after her, ship crash, Bakers.

But the mind control would be based on an established elements of the franchise (the Bakers are controlled by Las Plagas parasites that Eveline has direct control over). The Molded would be pseudo-Regenerators. Eveline's desire for a family wouldn't be because she's designed to blend into a family unit, but more clearly because she wants to live out a regular childhood.

Then take Redfield out of the game and have Leon turn up. They could remodel his face however they'd like but the hair, jacket and style would shine through, unlike Chris. "I'm Leon Kennedy, we were tracking down some Las Plagas samples and it led us here. What the hell happened?", or something. It would tie everything up nicely.

My god just imagine if that remotely happens.
"I'm Valentine"
"I'm Redfield"
"I'm Chambers"

I always thought it was adorably Japanese how all the characters in RE are on a first-name basis with each other (well besides some of the villains of course). Even in the intro to REmake Joseph's headcam readout says "Joseph F" when I'd think it'd more likely say "J Frost" in real life

Maybe that was the FEAR writer's sole contribution to the script lol

That's fair I suppose

For Ethan it's one of two things

He's either poorly written or he's seen this stuff before.

Everyone is hoping it's the latter.

I wasn't a believer myself until I relistened to the phone call and him extrapolating that they needed the head and arm..."That doesn't sound right..."

He at the least has some medical knowledge

That will significantly reduce the psychological part of the fear.

I don't really see how any of that would better, it feels like pretty lateral move from one random scif-fi concept to the next. Here's my fix: make Evaline not a fucking obnoxious cliched little evil child. Done. Story is better. Oh and make Lucas not fuck off to another game before you encounter him. And get rid of the dumb hallucinations towards the end, specifically the one where Jack is telling you how they were all nice people for some reason, even though we already knew that before he gave an obnoxiously sentimental info dump. Okay now it's better.

It's time to accept that RE is just comics at this point. The characters will never age, there is always a new bio threat, etc. That's fine by me, part of the charm of the series.

No way in hell could Leon be in RE7.

His hair alone would destroy every ounce of fear for the player.

Well, that's sort of the point. I'm just saying that the same Resident Evil 7 story could have been presented using existing franchise elements rather than new ones. And I think that would help to anchor it to the rest of the series a lot more efficiently than "I'm Redfield".

Just finished the game...saved Mia and got what seems to be the good ending.

-Who's Redfield? Looks like RE1 Chris's actor, this can't be Chris? Working for Umbrella? Maybe he's undercover?

-What happens to Lucas? I never got to see his demise, do we have to assume that he dies in the house at the end?

Game was great, last boss was quick and too easy though, it all happened so suddenly!

Zoe's sarcastic line delivery after you reach the D-series box is so endearing. It really does suck that she ends up being a throwaway character.

Done my item box run. All that's left for the Platinum now is to beat the game on Madhouse and get all the Madhouse coins.

1. Could be Chris, could be HUNK. Won't know for sure until the 'Not a Hero' DLC. Working for Umbrella undercover wouldn't work as there shouldn't be a single person alive in the mercenary/BOW/good guy industry who isn't aware of who Chris Redfield is.

2. I think this will be covered in the DLCs as well. We don't see or hear from him again after he legs it.

She has a DLC coming up. I feel like we're gonna get a TEW vibe from the DLC. Where a lot of unanswered stuff is innit.

I believe Lucas bailed out the moment he ran out of tricks and they managed to create the serum. Eveline was busy going after Mia and Ethan, Umbrella chopper hovering around so he used the opportunity to escape

I think de-anchoring it was what they were going for though. Going for the same shock and awe that RE4 brought. Using a parasite from the last shake up a decade ago would kind of run counter to that I think. The references to all the other games, along with it very much feeling like a Resident Evil game particularly once you get further in, anchor it pretty well in the series I think.

I think the difference between the Fungus (Metamycete?) And Las Plagas was the latter actually got a detailed, interesting backstory, from being discovered in the mines, infected villagers, the cult stuff, how they work and plan to take over top positions with Ashley.

People said it was just random shit, but Las Plagas is actually more developed than the likes of the C Virus and others imo.

There is nothing wrong with Eveline being a "new" thing but,the execution left a lot to be desired

It drives me nuts that people just go looks better or looks worse without understanding the tech behind it, LOL.

Which one looks better is often very subjective, it could be the art style, technical details or a mix of both. Regardless, technically, the raw polycounts in RE7 are a clear generational leap ahead of RE6. Jack's model is comprised of 120K polygons, at least 4x higher than Simmons's model. We don't have a confirmed number for Simmons, but Leon in RE6 is below 20K if I recall. Notice how the stubbles on both Jack and Simmons, especially. In the former, all of it is comprised of several dozen polygon sheets, while the latter mostly looks like painted textures. Furthermore, compare the forehead texture resolutions. I presume I don't have to elaborate on this one, it's clear as day.

Now, the main reason why I think you feel the model looks underwhelming is because of the lack of subsurface scattering. Looking at the pic you posted, I definitely don't see any of the attributes associated with SSS on Jack in the dinner scene. I presume if it were enabled, the other half of Jack's face would appear darker. Neither is there any skin translucency. Anyway, it's hard to fault the devs. RE7 is a 60FPS game and sacrifices have to be made. Even Uncharted 4 had SSS disabled at certain parts of the campaign. Even the parts that had it varied in quality and was significantly below the quality of SSS in the real time cutscenes. I honestly can't think of any 60FPS game with high quality SSS. Regardless, the skin shaders are definitely a good improvement in RE7 compared to its predecessor.

As for why the outdoors at the intro looked worse than the rest of the game, I presume it's a combination of the RE engine being optimized for claustrophobic corridors and the dev team having smaller focus on the vegetation and terrain.

Two things, I saw a backpack in the same room with Mia and Zoe but I could never pick it up. Did I screw something up?

Also was that Chris at the end of the game or some other Redfield?

Doing resource manager and I can't access my item box until I stow my stuff for the birthday party. Got to the old house and I'm stuck...destroying the nests takes too much handgun ammo so I think I'll HAVE to take the flamethrower if I want ammo for Marge. dunno if I should get the scorpion key for the shotgun.

Played RE7 in two sessions with no former knowledge about the game other than seeing a steam trailer from way back and it looked pretty fresh which was exciting.

First half of the game... Awesome. Loved the manor, the Bakers, the first person view, the visuals.. Just awesome. The manor and the old house were just great.

I'd say the game peaks in this first half..

The second half, with Lucas had some appeal, but felt a little weak to me.. Plus never actually encountering Lucas was disappointing.

After that, the game is in a free fall.. The boat section is okay but not interesting and the choice you can make with Zoey and Mia is a bait and switch. The Zoe choice has Zoe killed in seconds, and the Mia choice has virtually the same result barring some minor differences.

The end boss was super disappointing, and the game just ended there with Super Young Chris just showing up for some reason.

The whole game could have been a reboot of sorts, but once they started injecting your standard RE cliches, like the boat section with organization, the virus documentation.. It went downhill fast.

First half of the game is 9/10.. But it peters out quick. The enemies other than the bakers are all some version of the same generic goopy enemy.. The best RE cliches aren't used here, like the mutant animal monsters like dogs, crows, with nothing exciting like the shark section in REmake.. Not much variety, but the game excels when it's trying to be a creepy redneck horror movie.. As it fades into boring RE content, it becomes apparent how little there is of interest in the game. Weak puzzles, little enemy variety, a couple cool bosses, some tedious evil child bullshit, and the game ends. There's not a lot here.

Strong first half that doesn't quite live up to its potential, followed by an uninteresting and rushed finale.

Fun while it lasted, but I'm sad to say I wish it was much more than it was.

I wonder if they thought they'd give people with phobias something they couldn't handle by introducing something like the Black Tiger or the Yawn in a VR Experience...

Does anyone know if beating madhouse unlocks infinite ammo for the Albert? Trying to decide how to do my next runs for the platinum.

I missed a couple collectibles on my normal run and trying to decide if I should do a speed run next or do madhouse.

I think having infinite ammo on the Albert would make he 3 item box run much easier.

So at the very early part, right after the fight with Mia where Jack haymakers you. When you're sneaking through the Kitchen if he catches you, he cuts your leg clean off with the shovel and this happens

At this point if not already obvious from our arm being stapled back together. Obviously, we (Ethan) are infected as well. So are we assuming that Umbrella corps at the end had the cure for us? Or do you think Ethan will be the cause of a future outbreak potentially in the next game?

Or is this simply more Rock Punching type silliness from them?

Beating madhouse unlocks infinite ammo on every gun--BUT if you are doing the 3 item box run you won't have access to infinite ammo until after Lucas' birthday room. Infinite ammo perk is in the box and you can't open it in the beginning. The only times you should open it are
1) before the birthday room
2) after birthday room
3). When you take control of Ethan again before the end.

Surprisingly the Albert is kinda garbage on Normal for the final boss. I mean it's not much of a boss fight. But due to its small clip, it doesn't output enough damage to keep eveline away from you. So she ends up biting you pretty easily in both stages of the fight.

Kinda dumb that the same Albert chris drops has a bigger clip.

The reason the one you have throughout the majority of the game is weaker is because its a replica, and apparently not nearly as effective as the original.

Not just that. He seemed familiar with these types of incidences. His wife worked for a BoW corp. the umbrella guy whoever he ends up being recognized Ethan's voice. Eveline's implication that he is not looking for or with Mia out of love. She would know as both were infected. Note: While Mia says I love you to Ethan, I don't believe he says he loves her once. So, he wasn't really there just for her.
