Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

So do the unlockable weapons or items stop you from unlocking achievements? If I finish the game on normal, can I start Madhouse with the Wesker Pistol and still unlock achievements/Trophies?

I did Madhouse and limited herbs using the unlockable pistol. I don't think anything disables achievements.

They don't. You can only herbs and herb derivatives do. You can check how many you've used in the stat screen.

Fantastic! Just got to the old house with 2 steroids and fine health. Doing quite well. Tempted to use the chest but I'm pretty sure the 3 chests are story mandatory.

Just finished my 3 chest max run. I thought it would be a little tough without the shotgun but it really wasn't and you can grab it after the birthday party anyway if you want to. Now all that's left is my Madhouse run for the Platinum trophy and with all the unlocked stuff it's going to be a walk in the park I imagine.

Even with all the stuff unlocked, Madhouse can be no joke. Enemy spawns and attacks are really fast and some can close to one shot you in some cases (the leap from the crawler guys that hits multiple times)

I played Madhouse without unlocks, and with them, I can only see it being mostly a cakewalk barring Mia. The Albert alone makes handgun ammo actually worth carrying along. The standard handgun is trash unless you're using enhanced ammo, except for maybe spamming four-leggers.

Where did you open the chest first?

Wow, so that fight against Jack in the morgue was just tough as fuck until I realized I could block and nail him again and again in the back with the chainsaw. I thought the pattern was headshot, stun, saw, but naw, swinging like a maniac worked out much better.

There are basically three mandatory spots where you have to use item box. First one is the "happy birthday" puzzle, second right after it and final is after the boat when you gain control of Ethan.

Thanks! I remembered the 2 birthday boxes but couldn't remember if the third one was mandatory.

After finishing this I'm actually thinking about selling my PS VR.. Replaying in VR isn't nearly as good as the first playthrough, and I can't think of any other games to look forward to (right?). Any thoughts or counter arguments?

So Lucas basically disappeared.I mean yeah he was the one monitoring Evaline and reporting back but I guess that closure will come in Not a Hero. Probably Redfield vs Lucas in the final clean up, only issue there is that Evaline is dead so he shouldnt really be that crazy anymore (even tho unknown to Jack Lucas had killed before and was always a nutcase). Imo game was a solid 9/10 final boss was shit but eh.

Ace Combat.

Actually there's a way to not open the box when regaining control of Ethan. If you didn't pick up the grenade launcher in the supply room, it's waiting for you in the shack with the radio station (just before the mine entrance). You can run past all the enemies in the mine and kill the two fatties with the launcher + remote bombs. Once you get to the final boss, you can just let her kill you, which gives you the option to manage your items without accessing the box.

I really need to see the DLC to get an idea of what to expect with Chris and Umbrella connections...

Unless he created a fake Umbrella as BSAA.

As a PSVR owner myself the future for VR looks bleak, imo. There's some work being done on making PSVR compatible with PCs, and I think it's actually working, so it might be worth keeping around for consuming VR media in general.

Resident Evil 7 was the game my VR purchase was based around, and it was a good experience, but I can see this going the way of the PS3's 3D support. And Sony seem to be slowly sorting out their PSVR supply issues, so the market value of a used PSVR could decrease dramatically over the next few months.

Personally I'm keeping mine, if only so I don't have to think about buying another VR headset for awhile. But I fully expect it to be gathering dust soon. However if you think you'll end up selling your PSVR headset eventually it seems like now is the perfect time to do so.

It was canon all along!

Just completed it, proper proper chuffed, finally back to old school Resi (for the most part), loved it. Extremely great first half to the game, slowly went a bit more ..... recent Resi towards the end (evil Goo, wacky villain, etc). Few questions.

Lucas I assume escaped ? Was he fucked up in the head pre-infection ?

I picked up a toy Axe, nothing came of it, whats its purpose ?

I used a weapon repair kit on a pistol, but also managed to get the damaged shotgun (swapped with toy shotgun), I assume I could have fixed that instead (looks like a winchester to me) ?

Missed out on the magnum as I got both the roids and weapon speed upgrade. How many roids and weapon reload upgrades are there ? And did I miss out on a boss weapon ? :( Are those 3 bird cages the only ones ?

Does the story drastically change if you pick Zoe to save instead ?

Is there any good/bad endings ? I got the "Holy shit Chris Redfield I going to cum jesus christ shit" and helicopter off with my wife into the sunset ending.

Purpose of shooting the little figures ? Just achievement related ?

I think I missed out on the treasure photo items, anything special ?

Had loads of seemingly useless items on me too, including all 3 keys, not like old resi's where once all doors unlocked it says to discard em ? Any purpose of the drivers license and car keys ?

Overall the game is stellar, I just wish they hadn't turned Lucas into a psychopath wacky nut job from Dead Rising, and dropped the loud music and light shows part. Got rid of evil Goo and found another way to do it, had enemy variety (infected animals ?), and made journey from Baker's house to the ship a bit more ..... connected, literally felt like "Part 2" instead of a seamless journey. A bit yawn worthy having a long black haired girl as the evil being thing again. but I did like the reveal from the photo that it was the old woman in a wheelchair (I mean, it was always in the back of your mind what the hell her purpose was, should have been obvious to me, but still loved it anyway). Coming out of the mines back into the starting house was brilliant though ........

The only issue I had with coming from the mines into the starting house is that there's very clearly a stone texture behind the wood in the beginning of the game that you can't see through, while the end of the game implies that there's just a few barely nailed pieces of wooden planks sealing up the entrance to the mines. I just wish they had a better way of fooling you other than completely having the wall sealed off in the beginning so you wouldn't assume anything.

Yep Lucas was fucked up before Evie came. He locked one of his friends in his attic and left him to die.

Toy Axe is part of a secret puzzle. Kind of hidden but its outside of the house in the area of zoe's trailer. Its one of those shadow projection puzzles. Gives you a stabilizer.

Pretty sure there are two repair kits (one is from treasure photo forgot where the other is from)

It changes what happens to Mia.

Yes there are different endings, due to above.

Treasure photos give Steroids, Repair Kit and ?? (Forgot).

I'm pretty sure you can discard stuff if it's not story related. It wont allow you to otherwise.

Magnum rounds.

Are all the DLC timed exlusives to PS or only some?

I'd be fuckin mad to get spoiled with almost a month between releases....

So er I started a new playthrough and now know why you can pick up the car key ...... to get in the car and run over Jack, I feel like a dumbass for not doing this first time but was rushing around. So first time round he tried to run me over instead. This game .....

Thanks, looks like I missed quite a fair bit then !

I tried that a few times and he just pulled me out of the window and said he was driving

You have to make sure Jack as far away enough to get into the car and start the engine.

I think if you grab the keys at the beginning of the fight and jump into the car while Jack is attacking the police officer you can get into the vehicle and start the car.

I got most of the trophies on my first playthrough and started a madhouse run to try and get the rest of them. I think it's over before it started, as I can't fucking get passed Jack in the garage. I suck at the game to begin with and find the controls a tad sluggish, so the speed of the enemies is extremely frustrating to me.

Like the game a lot, but oh well. It sucks to be bad at games.

So the end where you save Mia is considered canon?
Because the "bad" ending seems a lot more fitting. Also we are not supposed to go and tell aunt Rhody that Mia survives...

IMO it's canon because it makes way more sense. Sure, the bad ending might seem more fitting in line with horror tropes (how the hell did Mia get off the ship anyway?), but why would Ethan ever pick Zoe, who he doesn't actually know, over his wife for whom he came to the Baker estate? I know the writers make up some sort of excuse when you pick Zoe, but honestly I don't buy it. There's no way anyone would ever pick a random person over his/her spouse, even if that random person possibly has all the answers.

There are three (that I've found) things that can happen in the garage fight:

1) You get the keys, get into the car, and if Jack is close enough he grabs you before you can start the engine.
2) You get the keys, get into the car, and use the keys before Jack reaches you.
3) You don't get the keys, and damage Jack a lot until he rips the top of the car off and magics the key into his possession, at which point he starts the car like (1).

Doing (3) on Madhouse means that Jack magics the locked box containing the keys open, and you keep the lockpick.

Speaking of lockpicks. Are there enough in Madhouse to unlock all the boxes? Both times I played through Madhouse I didn't have enough for the box before the final Jack fight. Does anyone know what's in that box?

It'll basically boil down to what the sequel chooses as canon. And it's not always the good ending.

Regarding Zoe, I think for a lot of people it's the presumption that she could help Ethan find more ingredients to make the serum, especially since at the time Mia didn't have memory back. When you choose Zoe, Ethan asks to enter the ship, likely because he think it's where he'll find both the former and answers. And Zoe did staple his hand back on.

Also Zoe is cuter.

And Zoe also explains more to Ethan than he would have known otherwise. I would say canon should be a mixture of both endings. Zoe can stay 'frozen' so we can assume she might be saved and Mia shouldn't get killed.

Honestly though, I think we'll never know what the 'canon' ending is nor that it really matters. I see no possible reason for them to bring Ethan or Mia back for the sequel. Their story is done, the story that will obviously be expanded on in the sequel is why Umbrella is back and who the unknown third party is that Lucas was in contact with.
