Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

So has anyone here finished Ethan Must Die yet? Playing it, I realized that -- as least so far -- it's not actually "hard" in the typical way. Basically, once you make some forward progress, it's more like treating the enemies themselves as mini-puzzles; lots of baiting. I've only made it to the secret passage which leads from the workshop room to the bedroom, but I assume there's plenty more.

I managed to get to the Marguerite fight once. It was HELL

Remake Chris looks nothing like RE5/6 Chris
Its the same face slightly widened and aged

Why should Code Veronica be included? It was 17 years ago and different from the live action, in-game and concept art of RE1 Chris
REmake took in-game RE1 Chris and combined it with CV Chris.

REmake is the definitive version and has stayed similar for 15 years(through 8 appearances).

The DLC, with the exception of Bedroom (which is excellent), is mostly designed for people who want to be challenged. Nightmare (normal mode) is actually pretty easy, but plays more or less like Zombies mode in Call of Duty; you need to survive for 5 hours (actual in game time is more like 30 or 45 minutes) -- you run around the basement unlocking doors by spending scrap you collect from machines you have to turn on and monitor. You can spend your scrap on weapons, ammo, and other things while you try to survive. Mostly you just fight molded, but on two waves you have to fight Jack.

Overall it's pretty straightforward and only took me 4 tries. As you gain points over cumulative playthroughs you start with more and more stuff unlocked so it becomes easy enough that anyone can beat this mode if they sink in a couple hours max.

Nightmare also has a NG+ mode which is harder, but I haven't tried that yet.

The most interesting mode is Ethan Must Die, where you start off outside the house, and you need to take a relatively explicit route through the house all the way to Margeritte where you'll fight her. It's hard because the enemies mostly 1 or 2 hit you, and there are randomized item boxes with star ratings over them indicating the usefulness of the item they hold. Also, the house is redecorated in a way that forces you through a path that isn't intuitive through the house (but this does make it interesting). The path itself has numerous traps laid throughout, so if the monsters don't kill you, the traps are all but guaranteed to do so. I haven't finished the mode yet, but it's actually pretty inventive. It's sure to piss off most players, but I bet it's pretty satisfying to succeed.

Watching other people playing RE7 for the first time is strange. There's some weird mental block that stops veterans of the previous games from treating it like an RE title. For example the Chainsaw Jack fight- I was able to figure out what the game expected me to do more or less, even with a few deaths.

Especially if you're coming from the third-person shooters- bosses often required that you spam them with damage until they show their weak point, where in you continue to spam damage (the Las Plagas parasite coming out of El Gigante's back, etc.). Rinse and repeat until dead.

Yeah, watching more regular players on this game. It looks like a challenge. Much like when a lot of us played the original RE back in the day. I'm currently having to watch my friend play and hunt him along (not ruining the scares). He was stuck in the house until j helped him out. Fighting jack when he just wanders thinking he was a boss lol.

The puzzle have done a decent job of stumping him too. So if anything the next game just needs to have a regular hard mode for those of us who found normal too easy. Since for others, that shit is tough.

Holy fuck these last 2 molded are annoying the piss out of me. Getting up to them is fine but they keep stun locking me with vomit attacks.

They're the double Pyramid Head of this game

Apparently you can just hit them with a neuro round and climb up the ladder to bypass them completely

Platinum get! Apart from one or two bits that wasn't hard at all but it did feel more like a proper Resi experience.

Really looking forward to the next DLC pack and Not A Hero down the line.

Like I'm watching this person fight Margeurite in the greenhouse for the first time, and they're complaining about inventory because they for some reason brought every item including all their antique coins with them. They realize it's a boss fight, die, and still don't go back and dump all their extra stuff. Like what... you're practically a pro gamer.

Got my platinum as well. I really like this game. I'll do an under 6 hours Madhouse run for that infinite chainsaw fuel later. If I had to rank this, it's probably my 3rd favorite RE game behind 4 and REmake. Hopefully Capcom continues to put out quality titles like this (DMC5 next?!?!?!?!)

I don't think the infinite chainsaw is real. Haven't seen any video evidence of it. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

So I'm trying to work through EMD mode. It's pretty tricky, and there's a lot of things to know / learn as you do it. I imagine most people turning it on and being like "Ah, yeah, fuck no" and turning it off. But it's actually pretty neat, so I wrote down some of my notes as I've been working through it. Here they are:

http://pastebin.com/D4FpJJUr

Whoever is working through it as well, or anyone who has gone further, please add to it. Add anywhere, or anything you think is relevant, then toss your name in on the bottom and re-up and relink. Would be cool to have a GAF guide for it :D

Why are you carrying magnum ammo when you know you need more coins to access the gun itself from the trailer? Why would you not store it since you're constantly lacking inventory space? My heart can't take this.

Also all the molded are trash enemies. Even for mold, they just don't grow on you like previous RE monsters.

The only molded I liked was the deputy's mutated corpse, where you could disturbingly clearly tell this was once a normal person who now has a gaping maw growing from his skull and limbs elongating to unnatural proportions. There's body horror there. I think the molded should've retained more human features to be scarier and more memorable instead of just black goo that's vaguely people-shaped.

Not a big fan of Chris's design...would have been much cooler if it was the RE5/6 model without the name introduction.

I wonder if there are any fun secrets/ easter eggs that utilize the telescope or any other item you get from the birthday section. It seems the gate unlocks and you can indeed back track from that area once you complete the puzzle.

So I don't really keep up on the RE lore, but why is Chris Redfield flying in am Umbrella helicopter. Does he work for Umbrella now or something?

That is what you're supposed to take away from the ending and reveal of the logo. You're supposed to go "why? what the hell?"

Then I imagine you have to just play the spring dlc

Oh okay, thanks. I was wondering if it was meant to be that way or if it's something I was supposed to pick up on.

Finished the game.
It was an absolutely great experience, I put it on par with the best RE games in the series that for me are RE:Remake, RE2 and RE4.
I honestly didn't expect this much when they announced it last E3 and it almost seemed a PT clone.

About the plot I have some questions:

Has Ethan been infected in the end? Because Eveline can clearly hallucinate him and that is the first signal of her infection.

When you're given the option to either cure Zoe or Mia, if you cure Zoe, Eveline kills her in a smart way by essentially making all the mold inside her rapidly multiply and then petrify because of the serum-
Problem is that Eveline could have done totally the same with Mia (if you choose to save her) the moment she realizes she has no intention of being her mom when Mia finds and saves Ethan in the ship.
So there's no reason why Mia in the end survives if Eveline still has a way to kill people who have been injected with serum. Unless Eveline truly sees her as her mother.

The laboratory in the salt mine....the game doesn't say clearly why it was there and who was running it. I guess that Umbrella or whatever company is behind the whole story, after learning about what happened to Eveline and where she was located, decided to build a laboratory near the Baker's house to study her behaviour and what was hapenning to the family?

Was Lucas pretending to be under Eveline's control while actually he was collaborating with Umbrella that cured him with some kind of serum? He still kept his mutating/regenerating powers, so it seems like he wanted to be ''gifted'' but not under Eveline's control. Not sure how he could fool Eveline though, unless he obeyed to all her orders anyway,

Chris Redfield is now a double agent? :D

If I understand correctly Molded are not infected people who have mutated, they are actually just made of tons of mold shaped into a body form, hence their appearing/disappearing capabilities?

Btw now I really can't wait to see where this is going with RE8!

Man I have a lot to say about this game. Both good and bad but for me the good outweighs the bad by a considerable margin. I just want to replay a time or two to really get my thoughts into a focused perspective.

Does any of the dlc so far help to shed some light on the whole "is it or is it not Chris?"

These wasp nests are annoying as fuck on madhouse, burning those fuckers consumes almost all of my fuel and it's really hard to avoid damage.

Ended it just now. Loved it. Turned quite RE-action towards the end, but that Eve twist was superb. I knew that granny was weird and had something to her. Didn't know it would be this!

One question though....What happened to Lucas?

So I've completed this a few times.

I keep skipping the credits. Is there a scene at the end? I keep seeing screens saying Ethan is deceased or some shit?

I read somewhere it says that Lucas was healed some time before and just disappeared. Same with Zoe if you don't give her the medicine.

Yeah I don't understand what happened with Lucas. You drop the bomb in the crack in the wall and then it sounds like he bails.. but where does he go? Also is he the bakers son or what? What about Zoe? And what was the deal with the conversation with Jack when you are in the goo?

Is there more answers in different endings? And does saving Zoe change the outcome much?

Give zoe the serum and she dies almost immediately in the wrecked ship anyway - then you have to face Mia as a boss

Nope. Just saw the other Zoe ending. Anyone who's sane would go with saving Mia. Awkward as fuck choosing Zoe over Mia, and what happens afterwards is lame too.

"Man, this final fight with Jack in Madhouse is kicking my ass. He kills me with a punch or so and I barely have time to recover. It doesn't make any sense, but should try blocking his massive punches and tail sweeps.

Oh, god, this fight is now trivial."

And that's even without the Defense items.

Couldn't stand any of the molded personally. Lame and uninteresting and a little too close to the ooze monsters from REV1 (another quite forgettable enemy IMO)

And that's probably my only real complaint about RE7. Really liked it otherwise.

Same. Great game, but enemy variety is really lacking!

I guess i'm the only asshole who picked Zoe almost instantly during my first run haha,i kinda hate Mia tbh.
At least the good ending gives some hope that she is still alive, she is pretty much rebecca 2.0 at this point.
Unfortunately,i imagine she is going to be a boss in the "Not A Hero" dlc.

on madhouse but stuck with the 2 fat molded in lucas barn section

whats the best way to take these blobs out i have the saw but its no good they keep spitting crap out

also does anyone know how many coins you should have before you leave the bakers farm on madhouse I have the glasses and think I have them all so far but would be good to have a number

I thought the rest were fine in terms of how they challenge the player, but their designs were certainly a little lacking. I would have been 100% okay with them if there were different enemies introduced throughout the game.

It's pretty strange that a Resident Evil game is lacking in enemy variety tbh, that's something that they usually all get right.

About the plot I have some questions:

Has Ethan been infected in the end? Because Eveline can clearly hallucinate him and that is the first signal of her infection.

Ethan is probably infected but they say in the files that it takes significant exposure to Eveline to be irreversibly infected. Lucas managed to get the mold removed via brain surgery, Ethan can probably do something similar (if he even needs it, he was only there for <12 hours).

My personal theory is that the serum is a dud. Good for killing infected but Mia and Zoe were too far gone at this point to be "cured" like that, considering that Zoe dies and Mia gets immediately reinfected no matter what. Killing Eveline is the only way to render the mold truly dormant.

Seems that way. They were in contact with Lucas and apparently were the ones who paid for/performed for his brain surgery to remove the mold. They were probably using the Bakers as a test run for Eveline. My theory is that they are likely the same company who Mia worked for, who came to investigate the shipwreck and recover Eveline but are taking advantage of the situation to get some of that ever nebulous "combat data".

Yeah, Lucas wasn't under Eveline's control at all. He was just that crazy normally. As for how he can regenerate, it's a little unclear if only infected can do that or it normal people also can with the health drinks (the description is a little unclear). Ethan can't regenerate like Jack but he can reattach limbs so idk.

Chris Redfield is now a double agent? :D

Seems that way! Provided that is actually Umbrella. And that is actually Chris. x-filestheme.mp3

If I understand correctly Molded are not infected people who have mutated, they are actually just made of tons of mold shaped into a body form, hence their appearing/disappearing capabilities?

Seems to be a bit of both. Sufficiently infected people will become Molded (like Jack did) but Eveline seems to be able to create her own mold/biomass via vomiting (natch) which she can also use to create Molded.
