I don't really know what issues. Like I can't think of anything in the last third of those games that are lacking for me. And for me RE7 is still great in the ship. The salt mines are meh but it's like 10 minutes, and while the final boss is also meh, I loved the lead-in to it.
I loved the game and largely enjoyed the ship too, but:
- Two characters are dropped. One disappearing entirely despite the build up, and one unceremoniously killed off despite the deal the game makes about the "choice"
- Focus turns to Eveline, who isn't consistently portrayed. She's supposedly just doing what she's designed to do, and that's getting in the way of her wanting a family. However, her maniacally laughing at sometimes the oddest moments wash that tragedy away. So Capcom fails to make her as sympathetic as the game tells you she is, while the scaRyan factor of her just installed there (kid form anyway).
- That revelation scene with the hallucinations at the Guest Houses doesn't line up with the established goals of the subject character.
- The mines are little more than a gauntlet with little context. How would Eveline know of the area if Lucas was undermining her the whole time in that lab? I enjoyed the increased combat, but the place was had nothing going for it outside of two little rooms.
- Nothing done in that latter half attempted any meaningful switch ups. A minor enemy increase and that's it.
- No bosses. Even on Madhouse that ending encounter has to be failed purposefully.
- Hardly any meaningful or earned conclusions, with numerous other mysteries for the sake of mysteries thrown in literally at the last minutes and prior.
