Resident Evil: Afterlife Thread of Needing More Wesker

well what do you know, Wentworth Miller was by far the best actor in the whole damn thing! really liked him as Chris, he brought a very good charisma to the screen and was easily my favorite thing about the movie.

it's typical Paul Anderson crap, but I felt it had the most REisms of all the movies, and seeing someone ham it up big time as Wesker really put a smile on my face. as usual with Anderson, there are tons of things worth ripping apart but on the whole I had a great time with it, I think the trick for me is to watch the movies as if they're one of the games with shitty writing and acting. though again Wentworth came along and was like fuck all this bad acting, watch this!

I'm not saying he deserves some kind of award for his performance, but amidst Milla's typical "My name is Alice" followed by her kicking ass, and everyone else's mail-in performances, I just felt he definitely stuck out as the only actor really trying to salvage the material. Also, I generally hate, no, despise overuse of slow-motion, but I thought Anderson did a very nice visual job with it. I liked the bathroom face-off with the Executioner in slow-mo because had it not been, it would have been over really fast. I mean if it played out in normal speed, it would have consisted of Claire running across the room, doing a flip off the wall, sliding under him for the gun, etc. :lol

so yeah. I really liked it because I knew what I was getting, and I felt a lot of the movie was shot very well and the 3D was pretty good most of the time, and Wentworth, praise be, put Chris Redfield on the screen with some actual character. I think Extinction had better directing and more "human" moments like when Carlos is saying goodbye to everyone before striking up a joint and some dynamite, but Afterlife felt like the first honest to god Resident Evil flick and the ending definitely left me excited for the next one.

edit: oh yeah, Boris Kodjoe was pretty good too, unfortunately the script ran out of things to do with him :lol

Anderson you fucking dolt. Can't believe he menages to make more and more moronic movies in the series. You guys support this? For what? Entertainment? Maybe we should support not insulting our intelligence instead? Movies can be entertaining without that. But no, game based movies must be automatically retarded, not like anyone would complain to the studio.

And Milla must really be that fucking dumb to keep starring in his boyfriends shit. Anderson must've skullfucked her so hard that half of her brain is actually that asshole's yogurt.

RWAR!

This film was so bad. I couldn't even enjoy it as a mindless action film, cos even (most of) the action was awful.

Apparently he dislocated his kneecap kicking a gate open. Wonder if the script was changed to hide that fact.

This movie was mindless bullshit. Why do they even bother trying to make them anymore when all they consist of is a series of action sequences loosely strung together.

Sounds possible. He just sort of fell off the radar, and I'm not saying Anderson is a good writer or anything of the sort but I seriously doubt he was meant to exit stage left when he did. :lol

Also, Milla said that they're looking for fan suggestions so I got on Twitter and told her to tell Anderson what to do with the next one. She actually responds a lot too, so we'll see.

I just said that since this one ends with Umbrella surrounding them, it would make since to have Alice/Chris/Claire etc. be captured by them and taken to the Ashford island in Code: Veronica and just play it close to that game, they could bring in Alexia and Alfred as the villains next time. And since Wesker probably didn't actually die, he can show up to fight over the Veronica virus with Alexia like in the game. The end of Afterlife really made it easy for Anderson to go in that direction, but of course he won't. Can't say I didn't try.

You just described Jackie Chan and John Woo's entire career.

Poor performance indeed.

It amazing the difference between the real 3D and fake ones.
I don't think I will ever pay again for a 3D movie that isn't really shot in it.

Oddly enough, I could see that, intermixed with
RE5 Saving Jill moments, only replacing Chris and Sheva with Chris and Alice.
. All on the background of the Antarctic base or wherever it is, it's been FAR too long since I've played Code Veronica.

By Armond White

Full review

:lol

I don't mean to go off topic but what the hell was that?

Is this mean to be a parody review or something? Who is Armond White? He appears to be Bizarro without the superpowers.

Someone's bitter.
And in response to that review link above... I think I did like the movie more than Avatar <_< but then I didn't like Avatar.

resident evil movies: alice is superman this is all about alice oh yeah lets shoe horn the resident evil characters in to make them look very weak compared to alice.

yeah i was sad when they bounced sienna and mike epps they made the 2nd movie so enjoyable for some reason even stole the show from milla in every way imo. The 3rd was back to milla in every scene and it sucked so much. I like her in the role, but the stories suck, most of the pacing sucks but that ensemble made up for that in apoc i dont get why it got shoved under the rug in the 3rd.

From old Armond's review:
When Alice is resurrected from her android state (“Thank you for making me human”), it confirms Anderson’s ingenuity as a life force.

How is this ingenuity? It's one of the most cliche lines in fiction when something like that happens. :lol

Why have you spoilered a review?

Anyway, what does that line mean. Is this Armond character suggesting that Anderson is some sort of 2001 space child? A being of pure cinematic life energy?

And there was I thinking he was one of the most universally derided film hacks of his generation.

From listening to Pheleous's rant I can confirm I don't want to see this. I sort of wanted to cause I wanted to see a 3D movie but, what's the point if it's just garbage in 3D. :lol :lol

In a chat with New York Magazine's Vulture blog, actress Milla Jovovich, who plays the zombie-slayin' Alice in the Capcom game-to-film series, vowed that Resident Evil: Afterlife won't be the last entry in the series.

"This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It's the biggest movie in the franchise," said Jovovich. "So we're definitely going to make another one."

Jovovich, who is married to the film's writer-director, Paul W.S. Anderson, said that her hubby-helmer is already kicking around ideas for the fifth installment: "We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process."

I enjoyed it (not as much as Apocalypse) but goddamn is it stupid. It does things I like but just handles them so poorly,
like getting rid of Alice's powers at the beginning. I was so glad they got rid of the super powers nonsense but it was obvious they had no idea how to explain it. "Umm, well, here is this magic serum that gets rid of it and will never be mentioned again. Also it works just enough so that you aren't blowing shit up with your mind but you can still survive a plane crashing head-on into a mountain."
And I know everyone wants more Wesker because he was cool in the games, but he is seriously an awful villain in these movies. He looks like a Ken doll who just saw the Matrix, and he's about as stiff and nonthreatening as that asian kid. I really hope he's dead.

I've never been big on either Milla or Ali Larter but they both looked pretty hot in this movie. And was that supposed to be
Jill
at the end? I seriously didn't recognize her, although an Alice & Claire vs. Jill fight scene would be ace. Hopefully it'll take place in another destroyed shower and feature lots of slow-mo. It'd be like a wet t-shirt contest except the contests are trying to kill each other.

Saw this tonight, so dumb!

I'm pretty sure that if all slo motion sequences were scaled back to their normal duration, the film would be at least be 30 minutes shorter.

I guess I can say that I had some kind of enjoyement out of watching this, being a fan of the game franchise and having seen all previous movies, but otherwise, it would have been painful.

Yes

Saw the movie finally. It did held up together besides some cringe-inducing scenes.
The amount of RE5 references did put a smile on my face.
One thing did bother me though
how Wesker just seemingly went out of control and out of character when he had the stuff coming out of his mouth and only tried to go after Alice like a zombie.
Wesker is smarter than that, he woulda found a way to keep her down then do what he needed.

Jill Valentine, she was a boss controlled with those machines near the end of RE5, then you brought her back to her senses

I thought it was cool how
they mention her in the credits
, giving you enough time for a "wtf did I miss something" moment, then bam.

I had to go to the bathroom when watching the movie, so I thought the appearance happened while I was gone. :lol

Has anyone seen the IMAX version? I may go and watch that one at some point.

Afterlife is better then the last two RE movies, i still don't like Alice as the main character, it should be Jill,Chris or Claire.. Wesker was beyond bad ass and LOL towards the end of the movie
After the helicopter explosion you see him parachuting down

Funny, I didn't like Wesker here. In the game he was pretty badass, but here I felt he's like a douchebag with too much money.

The movie was terrible IMO, but it's not like I didn't enjoy it.

In 2 weeks it has made more than any of the previous RE movies during their entire runs. Extinction was the highest previously with 147mil WW.

I like the first three movies for what they were, but this one was fucking aweful in every way.

The scene where Wesker throws his glass in slow mo, speeds forward, catches them, puts them back on and starts punching people was the highlight of the movie. So bad! :lol

The problem with the fight scene, was that it was 10x better in the game. It was weird, and how Wesker gets finished was just....

All hail our overpriced 3D lord.

I don't care, though. I'm willing to watch every one they put out if they keep the current level of "quality". I'm just thinking they will give a huge budget for the next one that will never be able to be recouped -- smart movie studios etc.
