well what do you know, Wentworth Miller was by far the best actor in the whole damn thing! really liked him as Chris, he brought a very good charisma to the screen and was easily my favorite thing about the movie.
it's typical Paul Anderson crap, but I felt it had the most REisms of all the movies, and seeing someone ham it up big time as Wesker really put a smile on my face. as usual with Anderson, there are tons of things worth ripping apart but on the whole I had a great time with it, I think the trick for me is to watch the movies as if they're one of the games with shitty writing and acting. though again Wentworth came along and was like fuck all this bad acting, watch this!
I'm not saying he deserves some kind of award for his performance, but amidst Milla's typical "My name is Alice" followed by her kicking ass, and everyone else's mail-in performances, I just felt he definitely stuck out as the only actor really trying to salvage the material. Also, I generally hate, no, despise overuse of slow-motion, but I thought Anderson did a very nice visual job with it. I liked the bathroom face-off with the Executioner in slow-mo because had it not been, it would have been over really fast. I mean if it played out in normal speed, it would have consisted of Claire running across the room, doing a flip off the wall, sliding under him for the gun, etc. :lol
so yeah. I really liked it because I knew what I was getting, and I felt a lot of the movie was shot very well and the 3D was pretty good most of the time, and Wentworth, praise be, put Chris Redfield on the screen with some actual character. I think Extinction had better directing and more "human" moments like when Carlos is saying goodbye to everyone before striking up a joint and some dynamite, but Afterlife felt like the first honest to god Resident Evil flick and the ending definitely left me excited for the next one.
edit: oh yeah, Boris Kodjoe was pretty good too, unfortunately the script ran out of things to do with him :lol
