Resident Evil: Revelations (3DS) real-time demo video

Maybe my memory is fuzzy but I don't remember MGS4's scenes being downgraded from the trailer. The scenes just seemed like they toned down the bloom and color and added some filter (kinda like how Graphics Horse demonstrated)?

Tbf, the DC had some pretty fantastic texturing for the time but there's only so much that could be done with such a small RAM pool.

First off I'll say that for a console released in 1998 the Dreamcast was an absolute incredible piece of hardware. That said I don't understand why people constantly upbring it's technological performance last generation. I mean people say that it could have easily held it's own against the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox but looking at it's two most graphically intensive games they look like slightly above average PS2 titles. This is why I often raise a brow when people say MGS3DS looks Dreamcast quality when it blows Shemue and Sonic Adventure 2 away.

Thats running real-time on the 3DS!
If the 3DS can output visuals like that why did Kid Icarus look like a normal DS game.
The DS can create draw distances and texture effects like that?

fuck you op

I was casually lying down, clicking threads n shit on my laptop when i come across yours so i click the link and all of a sudden

my dick hits the ceiling fan and punches a hold in the roof. now my parents are gonna wonder what happened in my bedroom and its sure going to be tough to explain

I was only commenting on its texturing ability and in that area the DC absolutely did outclass the PS2. DC textures didn't suffer from nasty aliasing and the hardware supported proper texture compression as well. Most PS2 games simply relied on 8 bit textures.

Ofcourse the PS2 utterly decimated it in most other areas.

Believe it when I see it on the system. MGS4 TGS trailer was realtime too.....
Looks awesome but it looks leagues better than the other games they showed for the system so I'm a little skeptical.

Uhh, where do you think people who went to E3 say this?

Is this real-time graphics or just a CG trailer?

I'm guessing it's CG rendered.

I can't wait to see how the actual game is going to look and play.
It's realtime.

They had an interactive demo where you could move the camera around in realtime, which is impossible with a video.

Lots of weird things going on..
Chris sitting in a chair..which turns out is not Chris at the end...
Chris pointing at Jill, yet..she doesn't look like Jill and still he points a gun at her, considering how much he cares about her...

Only time will tell..

Good examples. Dragon Quest IX is like a graphical showpiece for the DS and it's pretty impressive with the system's limitations.

These games like Kid Icarus, KH, and RE are like the first generation 3DS software. I can't wait to see the things developers come out with later on!

This looks awesome. I am so hyped for the 3DS. I was hoping it would be out for this holiday, but it sounds like it will be early next year.

Here's a better picture that's actually in the correct resolution (400x240). Keep in mind, also, that the 3DS will essentially be outputting two separate 400x240 images (one for each eye).

It really does look good.

Does anyone know the official power for the 3DS? I don't want to look through pages of threads.

It looks like it's between the PS2 and GC, but maybe more powerful than the PSP.

I... really want to believe, but at the same time, it makes me wonder why Zelda OoT 3D and Star Fox 64 3D look the way they do. Of course, you could say they have big, open worlds, making less polygons, but even so, the textures would likely look better, at least.

Then again, they were obviously more tech demo-ey than many of the other games shown.

Wow... With texture filtering, that (and Dragon Quest) would actually look really, really good. I really hope the 3DS can do the texture filtering (was it anti-aliasing?) on DS games. IIRC, the PS2 can do the same for PS1 games.

Keep in mind that the KH screens are certainly touched up, as the 3DS can't handle that kind of AA. Most of the other games aren't, though.

Lighting takes a dump on any Dreamcast game I own. Lighting is king.
Shenmue Passport.

They're both real time demos, too. I'll be more of a believer when I see actual gameplay. Regardless, I'm satisfied with the 3DS's graphical prowess.

No there are no real specs, all we know is what gpu line it is in(PICA200) and the graphical effects it can use(which are beyond what you see on the PS2/GC). There is some info of the raw power of a couple different variants of the gpu, but the range between is pretty big so theres no legit estimates that can be made on the raw power of it.

Why would you do that? said:

They're obviously more like slightly upgraded ports than full on remakes, like Perfect Dark on XBLA, which has upgraded models and textures, running in higher resolution, but no one would think to suggest it represents the limits of the 360's capabilities.

Looks good, plus the 3D should add some nice shock moments.

But it's just a trailer so I'm not completely sold after the strange direction the series took after the 3 installement.

EDIT: I don't care for the nice graphics rather than the atmosphere and the quick look you got of the locations (Mansion ftw!)

I'm not fond of the fact that it reminds me of RE5, but I must admit that I am very impressed by the graphics. It's definitely of my most wanted titles at the moment and I can't wait to see more of it.

Good job Capcom.

real-time =/= in-game

Still impressive. Hopefully they can get close to that quality during gameplay.

How does that work though if they were able to control the camera in the demo? Maybe these are cutscenes but I dont recall a significant difference in RE4 or RE5 between the actual gameplay graphics and the cutscenes.

Fuck me dead. I can't believe that the words "real" and "time" are actually in the title and people are still coming in and asking. No, it's not playable. Yes it's being rendered in real-time.

Less a cut-scene and more of a tech-demo. The difference between that demo and actual games may be more significant than MT on other hardware because this has specifically been created to demonstrate the capabilities of the engine, and so it's to be expected that a few tricks would be used to maximise performance.

In a scenario of this sort you could limit camera angles so that you don't have to render the entire scene, for example. It also looked like there were pretty serious caps on the number of light-sources per scene. Basically there are a lot of tricks possible with a tech-demo.

Having said that, I sincerely hope that 3DS games look that good.

God damn, I cannot get this handheld soon enough. I can only hope that this and the other games we've seen don't turn to vapor ware and that they'll actually come out for the system within a couple months of launch.

During cutscenes, there is no game logic or AI running and every frame is still within the developers control. This means the devs have access to every last drop of the systems power and distribute resources in a controlled fashion to maximise the aesthetic. During gameplay, not only does the CPU load increase but what's exactly is on screen becomes unpredictable, and as such they need to leave more head room. It's not unheard of for devs to use different assets for cutscenes and gameplay.

Of course, This is a Resident Evil game not a Final Fantasy game, so I doubt the difference between gameplay and cutscene will be all that big.

You know, I just realized. This uses their MT framework engine...

The consoles and handhelds can use the same engine...

Christ thats nuts.
