Resistance 3 - The Story So Far

This is such a huge bummer. The R2 co-op was not only the best part of R2, but also got the most positive attention from the media. Seems crazy to me that you guys are omitting that.

You only have so many time and resources... allocating them is filled with hard hard decisions.

This makes no sense. one step forward, two steps back.

How hard is it to include the great features of 1 and 2 into the third installment?

Less time with the EA partners game and more with R3!

totally understandable

Is the online co-op limited to 2P only? Would love to have a 4P mode of some kind...may be post launch? :)

I'm loving that there are now two very different 'factions' of Chimera. Not only will this mean different types of moody setpieces (some more survival-horror, some more about being hunted by a cunning and advanced enemy), it should hopefully mean there'll be cool moments where we see them fighting each other. I'm hoping we'll see a lot about how Earth's biosphere is being transformed, too.

Different games, different budgets, different personnel. :-) - one doesn't effect the other in that regard.
Well, we hope when the EA Partners game is announced, that you will spend more time talking about R3. :)

I really hate the monster design in this series. Maybe I should play the first one though.

It does seem to get more and more "Gearsy" like in the sense that Cliffy B is behind it somehow but you should not miss out on Resistance: Fall of Man. Hands down one of the best FPS this generation.

This sounds a lot better tbh.

Story co-op in an FPS is always fun and split-screen + online means lots of options. With online now, it'll be nice to finally play through a Resistance game with my Resistance playing friends.

The separate mode was way too grindy in R2 for me. Just felt like a lot of dudes shooting a big enemy until it's dead.

The 18,000 like image was just revealed - a piece of concept art for St. Louis:

Hey James, I was wondering, since you are doing split-screen what are the chances of you doing 3D as well?

If you can't say here, just send me a PM so I can post on iWaggle3D and get lots of hits. Thanks.

(lol)

So subtle... :lol

So far looks to make up for the R2 disappointment. Disappointed it is still in America though, and not back in Europe (especially Russia) or somewhere else completely different.

I will need to replay the first 2, can't remember many details. Do we know what happened to Parker from R1? If she's not dead i would love to see her turn up in this. She's the only character out of the series so far that actually seems likeable.

I'd love for her to come back... as a Chimera (OMG)

Haha! Not what i meant but can't be too fussy :P

Also, this better be Move compatible, James!

Of course it better be :P

James already said Move support is TBD (so it is at least considered). Fingers crossed.

3D Support (along with Move Support) is still TBD.

Hey James, I noticed on the European blog that you confirmed R3 was going to support dual PSN user login like R2. That's great to know that you guys are supporting that feature.
One quick question regarding this functionality, do you happen to know why most developers do not support this feature? Is it because it takes extra resources to support this or is it because of Sony's motto of being an "open" platform and not requiring developers to add this feature?
Thanks,
p.s. love the art style. Can't wait for the trailer at the vga's.

Almost a full year of work ahead and TBD on 3D / Move support? Wow.

Maybe they'd like to announce these features on a stage other than random forum post.

Just a guess.

I think there will be some sort of component of Move support, not as sure on the 3D. As long as it doesn't hurt performance of the game for those not using 3D and it isn't taking away allocated dev time from other portions of the game, why not have them. More options for those who are able to take advantage of them.

That tells me that they are actually working on the actual game design instead of worrying about how many bullet points they have that they can put on the back of the box.
But that's just my opinion.:D

Weapon wheel is back, pessimism averted!

Please, please play like Resistance: Fall of Man. I miss the multiplayer in R1, nothing on PS3 has filled that void. Hopefully the narration is back too, it was so much more involved than COD style set-pieces.

R1:
Gameplay
Narration
Suspense
Multiplayer
Unique weapons
Color scheme (doesn't look like play doh)

R2:
Bosses (needs work though)
Progression based co-op (works fine in 2p campaign too)

Do that and you've got a game. Oh, and don't just call it Resistance "3" damn it!

James, will Resistance 3 have split-screen online multiplayer like R2 did? And is there any chance that it will have local deathmatch options like R1? I've had a lot of fun playing splitscreen in R1 with friends and it was a big part of why I got Resistance when I bought my PS3.

Oh I have no doubt they are working hard on the game, atleast I hope so after Resistance 2. Does not mean they cannot atleast have Move support in. Killzone 3, Socom 4, hell MAG even patched it in. Reminds me of the trophy support days when Naughty Dog went back and added rumble + trophy support to Uncharted 1 AND still blew us away with Uncharted 2. Insomniac claimed they couldn't add trophy support as it would be too time consuming and take away from the project they were currently hard at work on, result? Resistance 2. lol.

Sorry but you know the saying, fool me once...

Naughty Dog is also owned by Sony. So not an Apples to Apples comparison.

Hey this is an internet forum, we need no logic for arguments.

I would replay Resistance 1 for trophies.

Not to mention you guys were working on Ratchet at the time. Naughty Dog managed to get out a trophy patch, yeah, but you guys managed to get our another 1.5 games (ToD and Q4B).

I am definitely looking forward to this game, and can't wait to see the new trailer!

I hope Move support makes it into the finished game.

I would pay for R1 trophies. Not much, mind you, but a little bit, if it gave them the incentive to make it happen. Then they can make the patch free for all like six months down the line.

Edit: Same for both Ratchets.

Are you guys going to work on the AI to tactically take on 2 players?

In a sense RFoM already had trophies, and they even worked better than most "real" trophies, as you opened extra content through them.

WeÂ’ve been developing games on an annual pace during the last 16 years. One thing that has become apparent to us though is that in order to live up to our own high standards of quality, we want to give ourselves more development time to iterate and polish our games. All future Insomniac titles will benefit from longer development cycles, which will directly benefit you, our fans.

I'm assuming R3 wasn't included when Ted says 'All future Insomniac titles will benefit from longer development cycles..."?

Unless they took time off after R2, R3 would have an extra year of development releasing in 2011.

I picked up Resistance 1 recently, but haven't started it yet.

What does R2 do wrong that R1 does right?

Psyched about co-op gone, sorry guys was not a fan. It felt mindless, everybody just stayed away from the bullet sponges and would just pump bullets into them from a distance. It was ridiculously repetitive and boring.

The split screen is amazing news can't wait for that. Can you play split screen competetive together? That would be nice too, but either way great start so far, sounds like insomniac will be going back to its roots for this one.

Weapon wheel. And snow.

Otherwise, both are fairly uninspiring but solid and worth a playthrough.

It looks like they took a lot of the criticism of R2 in mind and that is intriging.

And yet the Chimera - after 'maturing' through multiple games - are a pretty forgetable enemy that don't make all that much sense. They're a mish-mash of concepts that don't feel consistant. Basically tougher Chimera get metal pants...

Will see what the reviewers have to say on this one.

Don't forget windows. Well, for R1 at least.

Yeah, both are definitely worth a playthrough.

Oh shit yeah :lol

For some reason, I enjoy the Resistance stories even though they are super generic sci-fi and relatively poorly presented. I really hope they nail the presentation this time.

This is the first time I'm actually interested in a Resistance game. I feel like Insomniac never got a grip on their story or presentation for the universe. From reading the basic plot for 3 and seeing the screens it seems like they've changed that.
