Resistance: Burning Skies - Single Player Mode (VITA)

Looks great, but seems like an early build (got the bullseye before they were supposed to, bad audio glitches, etc). At least I hope that's an early build.

And that doesn't sound like the bullseye at all. :\

Pretty big improvement from the bad early footage before though.

i just noticed something, i much prefer the resistance 3 method of carrying a meele weapon. i dont like the way it looks when you press the meele button the axe magically appears dissapears and then the gun is drawn out again.

"so we're really trying to show this from the perspective of a civilian during the initial invasion rather than the military slant of the previous games"

*Player Character immediately proceeds to pull out an Assault Rifle for no apparent reason* :/

Yeah, that made me chuckle.

I just got to that part now. What the hell? What is a firefighter doing with an assault rifle?

If they're showing footage with bugs in it and it's a month out... it's either old footage or there's a delay announcement coming..

Yep, not to mention that the game is set during the WW2 era and yet the rifle he's carrying looks like it's come from the future. This is before he'd met any Chimira too apparently.

Such baffling and self contradictory world building decisions does not exactly speak well for the rest of the game's quality.

I can't wait for this initial wave of unnecessary touchscreen implementation to end.

Which part of it was unnecessary?

You can tap 'down' on the d-pad to sprint too. It's rarely needed in single player.
That probably wouldn't work very well since you need to lift your hand off the stick. I mean, I haven't played the game yet, but isn't it just easier to tap the back touch?

yeah, all of the touch stuff i've seen seems practical. i don't get all of the grumbling about the controls.

regardless, the video makes the game look pretty dull. this is a "maybe" until i see reviews or get the chance to play a demo.

What I really want to know, is whether there is motion aiming ala Uncharted:GA. It would be awesome if it is there.

It's fine, as it runs without you needing to hold the left stick. Trying to think of another game that does this the same way.

Like I said though, you barely need to sprint.

Ah, I see. So you just hold the down button to sprint forward? Makes a lot of sense now actually. It is just like the 'A' button in Gears.

One thing I immediately noticed that I like is that Tom Riley speaks in first person. It annoyed me to know end that Capelli was basically a mute throughout Resistance 3 during gameplay.

There're definitely some bugs on the audio. And in term of touch screen implementation it deifinitely won't bother you that much when playing the game. Other than that everything look good so far.

Looks way, way, WAY better than before.

Too much touchscreen shit tough, the buttons for the weapons (axe, grenade) are fine, but touching the enemies for the alternate fire? dumb.

The double-tap in the backpanel for running is quite clever.

There's not much else they could have done, though - there's only one set of triggers. The action slows down whilst you do it, so it's not really a big deal.

I would gladly take another on screen button in a side rather than that, having my fingers in the middle of the screen in a shooter sounds like a really bad and messy idea

I don't think you would. How would you aim at a target with the Bullseye for the tagging with just an onscreen button? You'd need to aim with the right stick whilst trying to tap furiously as the enemy jumps around.

Tapping on screen where you want to aim works perfectly here.

Have been told what you are seeing there bugwise etc is that bad in the latest build... and there will be no delay.... :(

Hmm? tap on icon and activate the alternate fire (tagging), move the crosshair with the right stick while you can move with the left as always, enemies get tagged automatically when you put the crosshair over them, then fire with the right trigger, mode deactivates, profit! you don´t even need to "slowdown" time

This wouldn't work. You can only tag one at once, and you'd have to negotiate through a screen of enemies all leaping around to get the crosshairs over the one you want without touching any of the others.

It's really fine as is.

Take away the auto tagging then, just that system and remap another button for the tag only while you are in tagging mode, there are plenty of them, or even the back touch, you don´t need every single function while you are aiming a chimera for tagging...why are we discussing this? it´s quite obvious that there are several options to make alternate control schemes for this mechanics, the thing is, i really think that the system will bother me, i played several touchscreen based shooters, and i don´t like this kind of solutions, i am not saying "IT WILL NOT WORK!!" or anything, just that having my fingers in the screen while trying to move and aim, looks and will be messy, for me at least.

I thought it was pretty funny when the PR guy was talking about how crazy it was to have scifi set in 1950s America. Groundbreaking territory!

The lighting is a little flat but the game looks good, though. Not a fan of the touchscreen controls but I guess if you want all of the things console shooters have (sprint, etc) something's gonna end up being a lame touch control. The lack of clickable sticks and R2/L2 buttons takes away four button options for devs to work with.

I'm just saying that the system just now works for me - I didn't have a problem with it at all. You might not, either, when you try it. =)

Some of the other guns offer much simpler touch screen stuff, but I'm tempted to think you're not going to be happy with how the secondary fire is loaded onto the crossbow...

looks like the first game visually...nice but a bit bland

I agree. I still feel R1 is the pinnacle of the franchise.
R1 was a a bit bland, but acceptable for it's time.
R2 was very meh, skipped R3 altogether.. Burning Skies looks decent. However, I'll wait for a price drop.
