Resolution boosted for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on Xbox One

900p is equally arbitrary. either you're native or you're not. if you're not, you're arbitrary.

True, except for higher than native resolutions.
Even a small amount of supersampling can look very nice. The LEGO Movie and LEGO The Hobbit on PS4 have drawn praise for the IQ with just an extra 200 pees, vertically only.

900p games look like shit on both 1080 and 720 screens. At least 720 games look good on 720 screens, plus they manage better framerates. Developers should stop this anti-Xbox agenda and just release 720p games in stead of these funky in-between resolutions they only use to make The One look bad.

Ryse looks like shit? Honestly, this is the first time I've heard someone say that with a straight face.

Nah, Ryse was and still is one of the most visually impressive games available on current gen.

lol, what? Now 720p is better than 900p, and developers have an anti-Xbox agenda by not sticking to 720p? Resolution denial is starting to take a really weird turn.

So the new COD that looks exceedingly better than Ghosts and has a more demanding engine is getting a resolution upgrade?

Sounds all good to me

Ummm no!! 900p Ryse looks better than any other game I've played on my 70 inch TV!! I though I would notice the difference on a TV that large, but it looks like butter....

Not really a boost, this isn't Ghosts, it's a new game.

An extra 120p, yay!
Dat 840p

Oh Leadbetter, how you do go on...

Sort of relevant, but given my apathy towards Call of Duty these days (only one i bought since MW2 was BLOPS 2 and that was mainly because i wanted to try out a shooter on the Wii U) i actually was fairly impressed by the trailer. Looks way better than Ghosts at least.

well, how did you feel about blops 2?

882p is closer to 720p, which is what most cable tv stations run their programming at. considering this, I'd rather have a more consistent experience throughout than to have such drastic changes in my TVs output.

Exactly what I was about to say, but you beat me to it. Games at 900p look like shit on 1080p screens? Something must be seriously wrong then, since Ryse is one of the most graphically amazing games I've ever laid eyes on.

I think at some point people will wise up and realize that resolution has never, and will never, tell the entire story in a game's visual appearance? I mean, this isn't even about this game. I'm just speaking generally. How can 900p not look great on a 1080p screen when people have been playing amazing looking 720p and below games on 1080p televisions for a number of years now? There's too many factors that come into play, like lighting, character and environment artwork, what kinds of effects are being used and how they're being applied. All these things matter, and, yes, including resolution, but we enter into crazy territory once people start saying a game can't look really good if it isn't running at a specific resolution. Blue Dragon, a very old 360 game, looks insanely good on my 1080p TV, and we're talking bigger than 50 inches.

BF4's MSAA on PC isn't all that fantastic either. It's a serious performance hog and the IQ gains are definitely not in line with the performance hit.

Personally I just turn render scale up instead of enabling MSAA.

You need good AA at 900p. Ryse has it, BF4 on PS4 doesnt. This new CoD game looks really good imo. Good AA implementation

I don't know... I thought BF4 on the PS4 looked really good. It has been a few months since I've played it though.

Anyway, man -- some of these posts in here are amazing. Since it's still early, I wouldn't be surprised to see the game at 900p by launch.

Yea, the game also looks awful on PC without MSAA...sadly it is too damnding for PS4. I hope Dice comes up with a better AA solution for Ps4

At times I swear I feel like there is no AA being implement on BF

Agreed, DICE did poorly with their FXAA implementation on the PS4. For their next game, they really need to step up and go with some SMAA variant like Infamous: SS and Ryse did. The temporal component really helps SMAA be the best AA solution I've seen yet on the next gen consoles.

There is enough horsepower on the PS4 to do it at 60fps, but it will take some time to do the optimization. Hopefully Sledgehammer will also dump FXAA and move to a SMAA variant.
