Calling it now. Feel free to flog me if I'm wrong but I bet there will be forced parity with this game.
You just wanted to get flogged but didn't want to come out and ask didntchya?

Guys, is this a new thing or were there such ridiculous resolutions even in last gen ?

Countless games had "weird" resolutions.
Just take CoD:
Call of Duty 3 (screenshot) ~1088x624
Call of Duty: Black Ops = 960x544
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 = 880x720
Call of Duty: Ghosts = 928x600
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare = 1024x600
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 = 1024x600
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 = 1024x600
Call of Duty: World at War = 1024x600
Using overly compressed images like that to prove a point is a little misleading.
No, silly. These are not from YouTube's heavily compressed feed but from the HQ Gamersyde file. If you can't tell them apart, I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you.Dat uncompressed youtube quality.
No, they're not. This is exactly what the trailer looks like when there are neither motion, nor fast cuts hiding the ugliest scenes and obvious poor IQ (on top of the blurred 900p image upscaled to 1080p).These caps are poor. The actual trailer looks way better

I can't believe Black Ops on PS3 was running at Vita resolution.
Wow, poor guys :/
Doesn't Halo 3 have some strange res as well ?
Anyway, I don't remember people making such a huge fuss over these games or maybe I was just not paying attention.
Thx for the answers though, everyone![]()
so what was the purpose of putting the 720p and 1080p on the back of the case ? Just to let you know you need an HD tv to run the game properly ?Most games didn't have standard resolutions last gen.

Here's a pretty big list of seventh-gen games and their native resolutions.Wow, poor guys :/

The resolutions on the back of the case are the supported output resolutions. It's mostly about TV signal compatibility.so what was the purpose of putting the 720p and 1080p on the back of the case ? Just to let you know you need an HD tv to run the game properly ?
Think those were on the back of game cases to pretty much state that games could be upscaled to 720p.
But yeah, IIRC, Halo 3 was like, 620p or something like that.
Here's a visual representation - it was all over the shop.

Nope. There was a big controversy at the time of its release about it.I always thought Halo 3 was native 720p?

I always thought Halo 3 was native 720p?
The cherry on top was that it actually had screen tearing even at that lower resolution. For all the shit IW received, they seemed to always put a lot of polish into all versions of the MW series.
The PS3 game ran at a dynamic resolution ranging from 880x720 (same as 360 and higher than any COD game released from COD4 and onwards and only slightly lower than COD3) to 832x624 under really heavy load, in order to maintain that locked framerate
so what was the purpose of putting the 720p and 1080p on the back of the case ? Just to let you know you need an HD tv to run the game properly ?
Dynamic resolution. Never heard of that. So the game keeps tweaking resolution mid game ?
Can people stop with the "over 60fps" stuff on the PS4 version?...you only make yourself look dumb, because you didn't comprehend what DF actually was saying....
There WERE instances where the Ps4 version was over 60fps which introduced a lot of the "judder" that reviewers were complaining about early on and wrongly described as frame drops..but there ABSOLUTELY 150% WERE (and still are) lots of frame rate DROPS on the PS4 version as well...
When you watch the DF comparison videos you can clearly see the PS4 version dropping frames...being OVER 60fps wouldn't register as a dropped frame, but it would introduce a visual judder...
I play Ghosts on the PS4...and I'm a believer that the PS4 version of ghosts is the better version to own...but constantly spouting the "it's over 60fps!" Is comical
Wipeout HD does that too. I think it's pretty smart. When things become too hectic for the framerate to keep up, I doubt anyone would notice small and temporary resolution drops over big FR drops.
Yeah, it's a cool idea but I never would have thought it would work. When you change resolution on a pc the screen turns black for solid 2 seconds.

Rage on consoles also had variable resolution to maintain a solid 60fps. What happens, I believe, is the internal rendering resolution changes, but of course not the resolution of your display, so there's no need for the display to reboot or turn off in-between changes. Some games on pc have "rendering quality" sliders, which pretty much do the same thing - you can drop the rendering quality down which basically reduces the rendering resolution, but your display's resolution remains the same.
Not my point at all. I am simply laughing at DF's victory dance over "the feel of 900p". That's an incredibly low standard to have.
Thank youLogged in, just to say, thanks for this post. As it describes the actual experience DF had with Ghosts on PS4.

Talk about exaggeration lolhow could you possibly look at the visual vomit that is Halo 3's IQ and conclude that it's running at 720p?

it's kind of bizarre that 'forced parity' is a term that exists even though to the best of my knowledge it has never existed in reality
Unless I am misunderstanding what he said, that means forced parity. The PC version won't differ too much from the console versions, either, he says, adding that Ivory Tower is "really trying to get parity across all versions, so it's something that's important to us not to branch out and not do individual things for individual platforms."

Isn't that going to happen with The Crew?

A friend lent me the game and i couldn't believe how blurry it was. When I learn about te resolution, it all made sens. Im not a huge resolution guy but black ops really made me see before forums told me, that something was wrong
It really wasn't needed to be said. Same old people keep saying PS4 version suffered from frame drops as if it was unplayable, but so did every version of the game and even Xbox One version considering it runs at a much lower resolution than the PC and PS4 counterpart. And then you have people who counter that by saying the PS4 version goes above 60fps sometimes which to me means there is room for optimisation. This needed to be said.
@woah didn't know about all those differences in rez for Cod during last gen
And the average gamer won't this gen either. This is hardcore nerd stuff.

You only get comments like PS4 version runs above 60fps when other people pretend only PS4 version suffered from frame drops. Heck someone suggested PS4 resolution be dropped to 900p so it maintains locked 60fps like the Xbox One version.
No, they don't. Most devs either don't talk about the difference at all or just say something along the lines of 'we're pushing each platform to its limits', which is good PR. But the quote is quite the opposite, he's not just spouting the same old 'only slight differences/nearly identical' rethoric, he's blatantly telling everyone they won't care/optimise for each single platform any further than just get it running at minimum. That's bad PR!Developers almost always talk that way about their multiplatform game.
