Respawn shoots down Titanfall 1080p rumor

It has gone gold, but it is online only. You have to be online to even boot the game up so there will be a day one patch that will affect the performance the first time anyone boots the game up.

But at this point I would imagine that they are working hard on stability fixes and network items. I'd be extremely surprised if Respawn issued a patch that increased resolution relative to the current gold version.

So all the developer's who can hit 1080p on PS4 at 60 or locked 30 are doing it at a cost?

I owned AC4, Killzone:SF, BF4, Resogun, I saw no compromise. Actually the fact Killzone looked as good as it did and have it run at 60fps most of the time was a feat to it's own.

The same goes for Resogun which I have sunk a lot of time into for just a small downloadable.

Same goes for AC4, I watched my friend play the pc version on high settings, and saw very little difference between PS4 and pc @ 1080p.

It's up to the developer's to sort their shit out. If the hardware or SDK has issues, then it's on the manufacturer for not having tools and drivers up to snuff not the developer.

If some people have no issue producing great visuals and frame rates at 1080p, and other's can not do the same it's on them.

Could be their engine isn't optimized(COD:Ghosts) or was rushed and bugs were not fixed(BF4).

1080P should be the norm not the exception.

It's been around long enough to be the standard.

I think you're responding to my post out of context ;)

I don't know, I think you can get it through in five days, but given TitanFall's importance to the platform, I imagine MS would be extremely quick to cater to them. I also believe you can actually hot fix certain aspects of console games if it's prearranged, typically stuff like play lists, or damage balancing, but maybe framebuffer things too.

MS are going to move Heaven and Earth for this anyway, so who knows.
Sure I could see you being able to set up variables that allow you to change resolution on the fly, but the optimisations that give the extra performance overhead needed to make that increase possible, would surely need a patch.

Then your in the wrong thread.

i called for a resolution...can i also say my personal opinion about what i think was the intention of the devs or not?..i dont think that with more HW capabilities this game would look different ( in fact standint at the beta ..look essentially the same on pc.. im talking about.. effects.. textures.. poly counts.. etc etc) ....so isnt a limit of the xb1

this game is what it is..and also if isnt horrible ..just isnt about graphics ..

but i repeat coz my first post was in line with the thread ..O.o 792p and 900p later...and im happy with it

At some point you can't really be surprised when there's precedent.

Yeah, I was actually thinking of the opposite, the gold candidate could be 900p, but the framerate could be weaker than they wanted, and they could hot fix for a lower resolution to off-set the fillrate if they feel that would be preferable.

The fact that they couldn't achieve 1080p @ 60fps using a heavily optimised Source engine speaks volumes about how weak the hardware is in Xbox One. MS should be ashamed of themselves.

MS' lack of foresight for this gen and going in completely the wrong way approaching next gen gaming is so laughably bad you probably wouldn't believe it before any reveals.

A whole lot of people never have cared about tech and the best experience.

I certainly don't, if everyone did more people would play on pc.

I've never played a game and complained about resolution, makes no difference really.

Your not gonna arrive on launch day at the store and see people arguing over the resolution. The reality is the majority don't give a fuck. A good game is a good game.

If Titanfall is a good game resolution won't affect sales significantly
I would say that if people are buying next gen consoles, then they do care about tech to a certain degree. Sure a good game is a good game, but if that same game can be bought on a last gen system, why invest 500+ bucks to play it? Because it will look and perform better, that's why.

Feel free to participate talking about the game within the specific game topic, there should be one somewhere.

Love this one.

I can't help but be amazed at the voracity that you guys go at resolution; it is astounding. I am merely pointing something out that is bugging me.

If you make the argument that graphics is not an issue, then why should people upgrade from 360 to the xbox1 to play titanfall? The same gameplay will be in the 360.

when u buy a console u do it for a "long term relantioship" two days ago i bought my ps4 (before the xb1 honestly coz after the price drop in uk im waiting they cut it in the rest of the world...) ....i dont think is "still" worth the price of the console for the games that i can play on it....

same go for the xb1 ...i would never buy a console for a game....and people should buy the xb1 for THIS game and the games that will come...as they do for the ps4
but im talking about me.

pss. i called for a resolution in my first post! 792 and im ok with it

The attention to this detail is what I am referring to.

Graphical power differences have always been a huge part of gaming discussions. I think this generation will be more known for the concerted effort among Microsoft employees and fans to discredit, deny and deflect away from the difference in graphical performance between the two consoles.

It took me a long while to believe the initial realisation when GafTech showed how gimped Xbox One was relative to PS4. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming through those discussions on this board. I now accept the reality of the current situation.

I'm still and the anger stage. I've owned Xbox and Xbox 360. I will never own an Xbox One.

Respawn has said that they are still working to increase it. I guess it is possible that they are just saying that and the final game will have the same resolution as the beta. I would be fine with that, I would much rather they focus on getting the framerate locked at 60fps.

It bugs you that people talk about the resolution in a resolution thread? Luckily there is a beta impression thread that is loaded with great talk about the game and not resolution.

Can't see them going in that direction myself. Would make more sense to have the gold version at a lower resolution that performs well and see if you can use the extra time to optomize and increase the res.

?

Or... just buy it when it is cheaper and has a games catalogue instead of waiting things which may never come to fruitition or be good.

But that is beyond the pale of this discussion. Please focus on gfx talk... please...

Not denying any of this; just amazed at how much people care about it over gameplay, etc.

Of course it is, the game will run at 1080p/60fps on more powerful PC's

its not gonna be 720p, 900p max, which is shame because game visually looks very sparse and oldgen

this got me lol

On a game like this. Fluid locked 60fps must dominate over resolution. I fully suspect that Respawn won't be able to achieve that on Xbox One.

No..the fact that a resolution thread gets more attention than other topics is what bugs me.

That's a false narrative which has been continuously propagated by apologists. No one cares about it in lue of gameplay. They want both, and often here lately they can get both elsewhere.

I dont remember anyone telling people that they were stupid for buying a PS2, or people claiming that they would never buy one since Sony gimped its specs so much. If we get to a point where the PS4 has better looking games then it will make sense to discuss the differences in power, but so far that is not even close to being the case.

PS2 came out 12-18 months before the Xbox and was cheaper, not more expensive. The situation is different now. The PS4 already has better looking versions of multiplatform games like AC4, BF4, CoD Ghosts, Tomb Raider, Thief, etc. It's pretty incredible that you are still in denial over that fact.

Not denying any of this; just amazed at how much people care about it over gameplay, etc.

Saying they care about it over gameplay is a Straw Man argument. The thread about Titanfall gameplay impressions is much, much bigger than this one.

ok for me is easy this game isnt for the "graphical whores" out there ...there are other fps that aim to push just graphics

i repeat for me the resolution is irrilevant and to me a 1080p res would not give to this game the graphical "wow factor" but ..clearly if i could have the moon....i would go for the moon :)

Yeah didn't UBi do this with AC4?
AC4, CoD Ghosts, ZoE2, SSDHD, Ghostbusters, it's kind of unusual, but yeah, not unheard of.

This will sound kind of absurd, but I feel pretty bad for Respawn at the moment, obviously the game is going to be lauded, and sell extremely well, they're going to do extremely well, but it feels like the weight of an entire platform is on their shoulders right now, and I don't think they really wanted that.

This resolution debate is not really about TitanFall, or Respawn, or Source, it's about the console it's on.

Not saying it isn't...what I am saying is that resolutions have become a much bigger deal lately, when one system has the advantage now.

Calling people apologists when they aren't doing it is ridiculous.

I can't think of many more reasons people would suggest other people care about it over gameplay, a warrior, looking to stir shit..only a few options fit.
Not for me it didn't. Very occasional and slight slowdown, nowhere near 'chugging'.
I hope you can accept other people had a different experience than you did instead of telling people didn't play it, half of the time I got into a firefight it wasn't very playable.

They wanted it the day they partnered w EA and got in bed with MS. They are going to make a ton of money; not sure why a resolution difference is making you feel bad for them . That is absurd .

It seems that MS is trying to save face by having this game run over 720p, but why do so when the framerate fluctuates so bad on the XBONE. It appears that even at 720p there would be dips on the xbone, as the game for what's its worth runs in the 30's with a couple of titans in play.

The resolution differences weren't as large last gen as they are now. You would expect larger differences would make resolution a bigger deal, surely.

It's not the fact that these are new systems that have a technological advantage of up to 8 years over the older systems, it's that one system has the advantage.

No. It was fine, you obviously didn't play it.

I've seen many disagree.

I thought framerate was king, I really don't understand why everyone's wishing for this game to be 900/1080p if it would almost certainly mean it will chug even more.

Oh well. The human eye can't see more than 24 FPS anyway, right?
