The problem with all of these attempts at full VR immersion is that they're still far off from perfect, especially for the mass market. I think Carmack said something in the vein of if it's not perfect, or very near, it will put everyone off, so that's why the first attempt needs to do it right or as close to it as possible at this moment.
It's great if something like this gets made, but until some future Kinect 3.0 gets lag-less non-twitchy support and a slimmer and higher res Rift comes along, these solutions won't have a large audience at all.
Then again, I thought the first Kinect would be a commercial disaster but here they are with an improved and mandatory successor. I guess if you can aggressively spin the technology as something new and exciting even though it's still massively flawed, you could get away with it.
And boy, do I want VR right now...
