RIOT – Civil Unrest is a real-time riot simulation that recreates some of the world’s infamous riots. Events include: The Italian NoTav opposition to a planned high-speed rail link between Turin and Lyon; The Arab Spring uprising in Egypt; Indignados, the anti-austerity protests in Spain; and Keratea, the landfill fuelled struggle against the government in crisis-racked Greece.

In addition, there are over 30 single scenarios including London in the UK and Oakland in the USA. Players will be able to choose to play as the rioting masses, venting their frustration and anger against the system and the police.

Alternatively, players may decide to take on the role of law enforcement using crowd-control strategies to quell the hordes and regain order. As the Police, players can add additional tactical, assault, arrest, or ballistic units. Acting as the Rebels, players can add additional leaders whose influence affects rioters around him. Further items can be added too, such as DIY rocket launchers and documentarists.

Players are encouraged to experience the scenarios from both the police and protesters’ points of view in order to better understand both sides. It should be noted that while RIOT – Civil Unrest simulates over thirty civil disturbances it remains politically neutral allowing the player to research and make up their own minds about the cause and effects of each encounter. Players will quickly learn that using force and violence works short term but patience and passive actions yield more positive outcomes.

RIOT is a riot simulator based on real events that have been influencing
the western civilization in the past few years.

RIOT includes 4 main campaigns set in:

ITALY
NoTAV movement

GREECE
Battle of Keratea

SPAIN
Indignados movement

EGYPT
Tahrir Revolution

Plus many more unlockable riots set all around the world.

Each scenario will have its own background, background elements,
props, police uniforms, procedurally generated activists’ clothes.

Each character will have its own psychology. This means that
each single person can react in unpredictable ways based on
realistic elements that will happen in each riot.

RIOT emulates a 2D retro look even though the scene is 3D.
This gives us much more control over realistic lighting, physics, and visual effects.

All character movements are physics based.
This means that rather than following just a path,
the crowd movement will be influenced by the
physical contact given by the rest of the crowd.

This will give a realistic touch to the gameplay and will give the player the possibility
to come up with tactics that even the designers weren’t able to predict.
RIOT is planning to release an in-game level editor where levels
can be uploaded and shared with anyone in the world.

Levels will be rated by the players based on quality and historical accuracy.

While trying to fight against the lies of the media, we want to be able
to help out all of those who are still fighting for their freedom of speech.
RIOT has the potential to inform people on what’s going on around the world.
With your help we can make this happen.

Coming to consoles.

Play as angry horde or police? They should add another faction, the working class people who don't give a fuck about riots and just want to get to work and go home.

A sidescroll-Brawler point and click adventure ? Why´s there a cursor visible ... gameplay must be boring as hell. Point your group on your side, move it to the other side and watch it unfold?!

It just shows, 2D > 3D ... but gameplaywise i have my doubts.
