There absolutely WILL be another SKU with a bigger HD at some point. The HDD market is all kinds of screwy, the reason Sony shifted from 60-80 in the US and Korea is because it's actually cheaper for them to put an 80 in there instead of a 60. They might have decided to toss all the extra 60's they've already acquired into the production line for PAL consoles, allowing that version of the PS3 to continue being produced for some time still (maybe till 120s are cheaper than 80s)bud said:
The thing that's being overlooked is that the console space has always been about reducing costs from and passing as little savings as possible over the consumer without them knowing it. Sony doesn't exist in a vacuum, the PS3 that you are proposing they sell for $600 costs them LESS than the previous version that has been discounted from 600 to 500.
The only reason they would have to NOT cut price would be if they were completely happy with their sales performance and enjoying a good profit on the sales of both software AND the hardware and that doesn't happen until things get to the point where the PS2 is now.

Just use your brains people. Sony is at the point where they can't announce the new 80 GB core pack, just like they couldn't announce the price drop for the 60 GB PS3 until it was time.

Which is even worse in this thread because they're whining about something that could happen in the future when the 60GB version is sold out and if the 80GB is still 600$.
Seems like just the other day people were complaining that they are sick of PR speak, of lies, misinformation, spin, and non answers from game execs. Here we have an exec who is being brutally honest and and straightforward and people are now saying that he is dumb, should be fired, shouldn't be allowed to publicly comment on Sony.

Certainly it was mentioned as a possibility before, but it wasn't something that many were affirmed to in the first place, otherwise why be hyped about Sony pretty much pulling a 360 (not an XBOX 360 here, a change that merely puts them back where they started is where I'm coming from) with their hardware and ending up where they started with the initiative they set out with the original 20 GB and 60 GB SKUs at retail? Not to say there are just innocents on every side now, but I don't think it was as obvious an issue as you seem to think it was an there are people with legitimate complaints about it.
