Michael had definitely taken a turn for the weird in recent years, but his Jackson 5 stuff and his Thriller-era work can't be beat.

I remember watching his interview with Martin Bashir a few years ago. The interview was obviously skewed to play up MJ's weirdness, but there was a great moment when Michael busted out some dance moves. After so many years of the media focusing on his...eccentricities, it was easy to forget that the guy was an amazing entertainer. I actually got a chill watching him move again.

I think I'll toss in some Space Channel 5 and rescue Space Michael one more time.

Never really was into MJ's music after Bad, but since I was a ten years old when Thriller was big (no one alive and listening to music at that time could escape him), and it being one of my very first vinyl albums purchased by myself (with B-day money), and me being a kid who watched MTV nearly religiously at that time (we just got cable complete with those old school Jerrold/Scientific Atlanta-style switch boxes), I have to say that he and his music were a definite influence on me and my taste. Amazing pop music entertainer...maybe the best ever.

Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, the Jackson 5 stuff...amazing pop. Don't care for the man, but he was undeniably one of the most talented entertainers of all time.
