Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

As somoene who doesnt plan to get an XBO anytime soon this is pretty crappy but judging from what people here have said regarding the wording im hopeful this will come out pon PS4 too later on.

Good pick up for XBO though, i wonder how long this has been in the works though since i would assume this deal wasnt set up too long ago.

I got grudge sucked!
I don't sweat that shit anymore. I have a copy of Mass Effect 1 for the PS3, which everyone swore up and down would never happen, but it did take forever. I'd imagine it will be the same here. I'm certain there are some PS3 3rd party exclusives that were never going to be on the 360, yet there they are. MGS4 seems to be the only one that stayed, probably due to expense.

Point is, I'm not buying systems based on "3rd party exclusivity" because it rarely holds up. Thats one thing I'm taking from last gen. I love my 360 and PS3, but honestly I didn't need both.

No old gen version of this, is there?

If not, they've knee capped sales of this game pretty badly. Late ports always sell worse than initial releases and initial release is only on the console with the lowest install base, soooo...

I thought Tomb Raider was supposed to be about the Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Wow. Square Enix really is in the business of making bad decisions. But I would laugh my ass off if the game came out in December 2015 on the One, and January 2016 on everything else.

OP you should add this

Dear Tomb Raider Community,

As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

Thanks,

Darrell Gallagher

Well there's no way I'm getting it for my xb1 if the ps4 version will be better so I guess I'll just have to wait for that version

Some good exclusives and timed exclusives on Xbox One. Still not interested. Only Scalebound can change that.

It also looked and ran better. WTF is this shit? SE must hate money.

It's madness. MS must of paid so much. Especially when Squeenix games have had bloated budgets and huge sales predictions. I remember Tomb Raider having to have the sales predictions reduced because they were so high.

This literally makes no sense to me right now

Eh, a timed exclusive isn't so bad. Whether I wait for the PS4 version will depend on how crowded the release schedule for that holiday season is.

EDIT: Well nevermind. Guess my X1 library just got a little larger.

Wow Microsoft is dropping some cash. Its crazy when games are announced as multiplatform and then become exclusive. I really need to get around to playing the Tomb Raider DE.

Very surprising decision, especially as the re-release of TR sold way more on PS4. They must have been given a big paycheque.

Cant see it not coming out on PS4, but I don't like these kind of deals, so when it does come out, I wont be rushing to buy it.

Great catch for MS. Exclusives are what consoles need

That is really short-sighted of Squeenix, with xbone being a non-entity in most of Europe. I guess they don't have much faith in the selling potential of this thing if they'd rather have Microsoft's moneyhats. I wonder how do you have to pay to get a AAA franchise of this sort exclusive, even for a time, on a struggling console.
