Rising Thunder - new PC, UE4, Free-to-Play fighter from Seth Killian

It's not told to you but you can control the speed of her super and S1 with the direction keys. You have to hold forward to make them faster for that combo.

Oooooooooooooh.

Huh.

Huh, I wonder if that was it.

Yesterday I blocked a jump in cross up in the corner but got crossed up again because the opponent landed on the side from which they originally jumped and continued from that one.

I did that a few times last night too. I was super confused.

Played some more and did alright. I can win vs anyone except talos ATM.

I don't know what it is but man is it depressing. It feels bad man when I legit hang my head when I see whom I'm fighting next.

Still in silver. Got to silver 5 but lost a few and now silver 3. Again.

Vs duantless I've been using chel's v2 specials because so many tighten up and start mad turtling in the neural game waiting for me to jab so they can get relatively free punish. Well screw that crap.

Talos I've noticed I can use S³ as a legit counter if they walk to me or punish block kicks.

Game is fun but this gives and take is maddening. I can play for 2 hours and be right where I started at the outset.

So the game glitched out and gave us a 3rd round after I had already won the first 2. In the 3rd round I was completely invincible while the opponent could take damage. Anyway I can report this?

Please don't take this the wrong way but wouldn't that just mean you're at the proper rank for your skill level? Like I'm "stuck" in Bronze 4-5 but that's because I know I need improving. Improving is a slow process. There's not just one thing you figure out and suddenly you're winning every game. It's lots of little things you improve on before you start climbing anything.

You may be right but doesn't mean I like it. :)

I really am entranced right now and i just want to level up like everyone else but my pimp game isn't strong.
enough right now....just you wait!!

Anyways , off to work and when i get back time for more RT.

Oh and i going to make a dedicated edge account and crow. I'm determined to learn top tier bae bae.

Basically an aerial position based option select, yeah?

This is not an option select. She chooses to cross up or not *while in the air*

I don't think other fighting games have this. As someone who has to block a jumping attack, the only way to know if it's gonna be a crossup or not is the distance the opponent jumped from. Chel don't give a fuck, tho.

Crow gets it too. <_<

Vlad does not.

Is registration for the game borked at the moment, or is it just me? I'm listening to the latest Bombcast and I'm intrigued.

It's not that other fighting games have this but that Chel has this. I am pretty sure Dauntless cross up has the hitbox move further behind it so that it will not connect if you are not actually jumping over the opponent.

Yeah, I meant that I can't think of any character from any other fighting game that can do this. It's just too much of an advantage.

Are the carbon/bronze/etc ratings of your opponent on the versus screen based on their character or their account? I'm assuming it's character based since I've run into an amazing number of Carbon 1/2 players who know exactly how to play the game and are pulling off combos for 50% of my health.

I'm not sure how I feel about the KADC yet. It seems kind of insane the number of things you can cancel out of to make safe or extend a combo, like getting a combo into overdrive off of a throw or being able to dash cancel an overdrive making it safe to just throw out. I guess the damage scaling and juggle counter will keep things from getting too crazy, but still, it's weird.

Also, I can't get over how good that Simpson gif is lol

Just watched this interview with Seth and Lead Programmer Brock Feldman on the Unreal Twitch. Starts @15:49

@49:23 Seth addresses local play. It almost sounds like it won't ever be local on the same machine, since a part of the design is tied to having different screens (cooldowns and Crow's invis are examples)

Lobbies are their next priority, no exact time frame given, but they're working on it.

Sounds like they're going to be introducing a lot of different move variations and how those moves work with each other will heavily define the play.

Alpha seems like it'll keep going as long as people are playing it and maybe just roll into Beta and full release.

No upper limit planned for characters right now, but Seth mentions the idea of feeling overwhelmed with a large roster. That would be really far away though.

One bit that impressed me, is that the current state of the game is the result of a team of 8 working on it for a little more than a year.

Dang. Maybe they could support local for multi-monitor PCs?

I mean, they absolutely NEED to do that. No local on the same machine is kind of shocking for a fighting game.

The alpha is just to test how the netcode works and stuff. So it not being on the alpha makes sense. Like how the Street Fighter V Beta was online only... Well for those that could solve the "press any button" puzzle.

I'm sure, but that's for the alpha. But the way this is written, local play, or at least same system play, doesn't seem like it's ever going to exist due to the metagame of the super cooldowns. That's going to be a bitter pill for a lot of people to swallow; I can't think of any fighting game that's done that.

Well this game isn't aimed at the typical fighting game audience who goes to local tournaments. This is aimed at the 95% of people who like fighting games who don't have access to those things.

Hmm, that's true. I can see them putting in LAN functionality (although a game like LoL doesn't have a LAN - you still have to connect to the servers). But there will at least be a way eventually to play against your friend on separate screens. I wouldn't harken this to Halo leaving out split screen play though because that's a staple of the series. This is a new franchise and they can take it any direction they want. I don't think they'd lose too many people if the game does exactly what it does perfectly (that is, online play).

local can still work if you're doing h2h play. It just wouldnt work if you're playing side to side.

ok,i fell stupid but i don't understand how the special move meter works in this game..i thought it was standard stuff..one move that always comes out,one that needs half meter and the supermove that needs all the meter..but it doesn't seem to work like that at all, sometimes the meter is full but the other 2 moves don't come out,and i don't understand what's wrong

The kinetic meter is only used for your cancels/bursts. Supers have their own dedicated meter directly below the lifebar.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Safejump Option-selects vs. DP.

I might be incorrect, because I can't really test outside of feel, but it seems that buffered attacks override buffered dashes if the attack is valid. This is important because Safejump OS was super fucking hard due to the buffer system. This makes it way easier. (I could be wrong, and I'm just hitting the timing correctly for the OS regardless of the buffer system, but I've been getting it so consistently that it seems to be the case).

You can do a jump-in, buffer backdash and immediately hit your grounded normal. If someone does wakeup DP, your jump-in whiffs and you get a backdash. If your attack connects or is blocked, you get your grounded normal.

This means if you can get safejump timing vs. reversal options, you'll backdash if someone does something invincible (Obviously you both backdash if the defender backdashes on wakeup).

Due to quickrise, the application is limited, but I feel this can be VERY important for Vlad, who gets safejump timing vs. DPs during his s.H pressure on block.

You don't need to be a tournament player to want local play. I just want to be able to play my friends on the same screen when we're hanging out
