Rock Band 3 ships October 26, 2010 + Pre Order Details

The first batch of PS3s have horrendous BT antennas. Remember that they had to juice the BT range of the controllers substantially to make up for this. I remember my Sixaxis dropping its connection about once every couple hours.

I would assume that is part of the reason. Given the added expense of the dongles, rest assured they're not doing it just to torture PS3 owners. :lol

Wasn't that an issue resolved via firmware? I've never had an issue with my launch 60GB

So if you're going to upgrade, do it right. I've heard a shitton of discussions about whether RB or GH has the better drumkit, and it fell mute as soon as the Ion Rocker came in the discussion.

Since they will now offer an official MIDI breakout box, you really aren't confined to an Ion/Alesis. Any brain/trigger that offers MIDI out should work fine.

With that in mind, there is only one drumkit.

I've been using RB 1 drums all this time and NEED an upgrade. How much is this kit? Is it worth getting the mega bundle with all instruments assuming they'll package a guitar, drums, and keyboard in with RB 3?

The Ion was $299, but it might be a bit cheaper now. The drum pads are awesome, the cymbals okay, the kick pedal is kinda bad, but better than the standard RB pedal. The support for lefty mode is very poor in RB1 and RB2, so keep that in mind if you don't play right-handed.

I can't decide whether to get the real guitar, or the fake button-y one. It would be nice to have a real guitar around the house, but not having to worry about tuning, and the ability to fall back to the standard "five frets, one string" mode would be similarly nice.

Sigh. I'll probably end up buying both guitars.

Has pricing for the real guitar surfaced yet?

Also, do we know if the real guitar will exist as a single entity or will there be a fender squier strat for Wii/PS3/360 (3 total)?

No. What they did is juice up the signal strength of the controllers. So, all Sixaxis controllers made after 8 or so months after the PS3's launch have like 10x the output of the original controllers. All DS3s are obviously the same way.

I actually wish I would have known that at the time, I foolishly sold my 60 gig for a 40, that had the new BT antenna. :(

I don't think you'll have to tune the real guitar all the time. It sounds like the standard way to play it is with the strings muted, and it's just sensing where your fingers are on the fretboard.

Midlife Crisis will be so awesome.

So Amazon shows Oct 31 as the ship date for the keyboard bundle. Placeholder or was it confirmed for a week later? Earlier today it showed Nov 2.

So, buy all the accessories separately? That would add about $400 instead of $120 to my my 360 purchase price :lol

I guess I'll get the Beatles bundle to start with, and upgrade the drums as budget allows. I really want that Hofner bass.

• Talking Heads - Burning Down the House
• Deftones - My Own Summer
• New Order - Blue Monday
* Amy Winehouse – Rehab
* Bob Marley and The Wailers – Get Up, Stand Up
* David Bowie – Space Oddity
* Devo – Whip It
* Faith No More – Midlife Crisis
* Filter – Hey Man, Nice Shot
* Queens Of The Stone Age – No One Knows
* Steve Miller Band – Fly Like An Eagle
* Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World
* Tegan and Sara – The Con
* The Beach Boys – Good Vibrations
* The Police – Don’t Stand So Close To Me
* The Ramones – I Wanna Be Sedated
* The Smiths – Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before
* Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers – I Need To Know
* Warren Zevon – Werewolves Of London

Wow, I like where this is going. But can we have some more Elvis Costello, guys? How about something that isn't from This Year's Model? How about "Alison" or "Watching the Detectives" or "Less Than Zero (Dallas Version)"? I'd like to see more older stuff, too - more Orbison, some Motown, maybe even Johnny Cash (to bore drummers everywhere...)

I will die and go to heaven if the Smiths finally get into a music game. Was just complaining last night about how some of my favorite bands like The Smiths and Gang of Four keep getting mentioned in the fucking loading screens but never get in the game:lol

Question: has it been confirmed if 3 part harmonies is backwards compatible? Not so much as they're going to re-chart everything but at least let 3 people still sing at the same time? I'd REALLY hate to pick Bohemian Rhapsody then go to my dl of We Are the Champions only to be blocked or kicked out with a bunch of people standing around going wtf.

What is the size of the ion drum kit like compared to rb? I only have the rb1 drums and will upgrade for proper cymbal notes, but if i'm getting rbi drums i'd be tempted by the ion ones. Can you also use them as normal drums too?

On a similar note: I'd like to know if I can choose songs in a playlist that may lack vocals or a specific instrument regardless if the person plugged in can't play. Sometimes, that's how it works. Let them tap shit out on their mic.

Size-wise, it's a bare-bones e-kit (that was way to many dashes :p). So take that how you want to. It's obviously much bigger than the RB1 kit, but I wouldn't say it's particularly big in absolute terms. Stop by at your local music shop to get an idea how big a 5-piece electronic kit would be.

You can use it as a 'normal drums' if you buy a processor for it. Either a 'brain' that actually synthesizes tones, or you can get something like the Alesis's TriggerI/O which just outputs the MIDI info to a computer. Getting something like the latter can be cheaper, but obviously has the disadvantage of needing a computer. The former can be used to do the same, but also can run standalone.

And as far as we know, old songs will not be updated for new features. As far as we know.

Pro drum support has been in there forever, apparently, so that's still gonna show up, but it general I don't think they're altering existing songs.

They've already fixed that in TB:RB and GD:RB; it'll be in RB3.

You can play the dl-able GD songs in GD:RB right? Has anyone confirmed 3 people can still sing during those songs?

What about non-pro mode songs as well? I'd love to know if I'm going to be making pro-mode only lists or will it knock them down to normal if we have a mix of old and new songs in a setlist.

Is there going to be a super bundle with all the instruments released?

If not can any Rock Band enthusiast estimate how much it would cost to get a full kit individually?

Pre-ordered my Pro guitar and Keyboard+Game bundle :D

RB3 will be my personal GOTY this year.....damn i love my Rockband!!!

Which instruments? If you are only going for the vanilla stuff:

Game disc with keyboard: $130
Rock Band 2 full band kit (includes drums, one guitar and mic): $120
Guitar Hero 5 guitar: $50

The next step up would be:

Madcatz Fender Mustang: $150
ION Drum rocker: $250

And if you are made of money:

Fender Squier: ~$300 (unknown price, but $300 is a decent estimate)
How ever many thousands for an e drum kit.

I'm really curious as to how forgiving the game will be in pro mode with the Fender. If you're playing a first position D chord and accidentally hit the A string, does that mean you miss the note for game purposes? Or if you miss a string or two in a chord will that be a miss?

Edited for clarity.

Currently, the only songs that will support harmonies are the Green Day tracks for DLC and the setlist export. They could end up releasing more DLC prior to the release of RB3 that have harmonies in them, but if they didn't do it for the Queen songs already, I can't imagine that they'll be making much of an effort for any band. The only compromise that I can think of is that the vocal setup for TB:RB and GD:RB is set up in such a way where you can have three people singing on a song in solo vocals if you have all three mics plugged in. It's not ideal, but it won't leave people out.

RB3 DLC will support everything new in that game, so you have that to look foward to.

They haven't said much about chords. Considering the real songs themselves tend to have some slop in that manner, coupled with the fact they are allowing rhythm slop for certain passages, leads me to believe there will be some forgiveness.

At least I'm hoping there is, otherwise it will be a fairly frustrating mode to play in.

We can add these to the confirmed setlist:

Def Leppard – Foolin’
Filter – Hey Man, Nice Shot
Foreigner – Cold as Ice
Marilyn Manson -The Beautiful People
Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World
The B-52s – Rock Lobster

Awesome, I like all those songs :D

Sorry, another 360 RB n00b question. I hate to ask, but searching is not yielding much certainty.

It seems like the trackpacks had a one-time use export key. Are there any export keys or anything for RB1 to export the songs, or can I buy just any used RB1 on Amazon and export the songs? Did RB2 come with an export key that will be required for RB3? How about Lego etc.?

I'd feel bad about buying it used, but I've given HMX/EA quite a lot of money. Sucks that purchased songs on a Wii account can't be transferred to a 360 account, but oh well.

Lego is one-time use code.
RB1 can be used more than once, with a fee of $5 to export.
RB2 export has not yet been announced officially (price details).

That one-time code lets you purchase the export key for $10, otherwise I don't believe you have the option but don't quote me on that. Same goes for Green Day RB but nothing's been announced about the Beatles or RB2.

Yeah that's right. Also, the songs are in a bundle so you can't pick and choose (the main reason I didn't get GD). The track pack export is free.

In RB 1 you can delete what songs you dont want after the export is done. (Goodbye, Fallout Boy!)
With Lego it was one big file, so no deleting files.

Oh, that sucks. And the Lego songs aren't purchasable on their own? I wonder if that's something they'll do in the future.

Probably not. They would have to negotiate the rights to sell the songs as DLC then. I was irked that the entire setlist was one huge file that downloaded instead of individual files like the RB1 export.

Oh, and great avatar BTW. We need some Gabriel in this game, stat!

I'm so gonna buy this. Looking at the list of songs that are still coming out as DLC for the Rock Band games compared to the complete lack of DLC content for all the recent Guitar Hero games, makes me regret buying GH 4 and 5. Also, fuck trackpacks, give me individual songs I can purchase.

jhferry said:
So for RB3 pro mode (drums) will the RB2 drums with the 3 madcatz cymbals work?

Indeed they do. They're releasing improved cymbals for RB3, so if you don't have any already I'd hold out, but if you've got it all right now you're set.

Unfortunately, Track Packs are sometimes the only way we can get certain artists into the games. They only sell in bulk. :D And besides, most of the track packs worth getting are almost all solid songs. (Boston, Who, Queen, Maiden, Creedence)

It won't dock you for hitting wrong strings, as long as you hit the right strings. Don't know how lenient it will be with regards to missing strings.

Thanks this was what I needed to know, only need 2 guitars, maybe 2 mics, kb and drums. God this is like buying a completely new console :lol

I got the Ion Rocker as an X-mas gift. I'm not a great drummer (I usually play on medium), but I love the set minus the pedal. As others have said it is better than the stock pedal, but man I hate it so much. Going to upgrade my kit to a better pedal and get a brain since I'm really getting interested in drumming I figure what the hell.

I asked a few Harmonix dudes something generally about this stuff at E3 and the way they phrased the answer made it sound like with the new song filtering stuff you'll be able to permanently filter out shit you don't want so it won't matter.
