Another question; when I beat a song, can I choose to replay it straight away, rather than exiting to the menus?
There's an option to retry on the screen directly after the results screen, so you don't have to go all the way back to the song list.

Also, you could turn overscan compensation on and off in the first game, so I'm not sure what he's talking about.

Just beat the Rolling Stones Rock Immortals gig in BWT,
resulting in the credits rolling afterwards
. We didn't opt to do the encore, because our drummer had to leave in a hurry, but I want to know what that is like.

The game is a lot of fun. Oh, and fuck Snow (Hey Oh) on Expert Guitar. That riff is impossible for me to get. I'd rather play Chop Suey than that song. It's making me reconsider purchasing next week's DLC because it's so hard. Even dropping to hard difficulty, that song is really tough.

Be sure to have a score screen with stars.
And maybe let us know, at the end of a song, if we've beaten our previous high score. I don't know why this hasn't been implemented, especially in such a score-based series. It'd be nice, considering how much of a pain HMX has made it to see your scores from within a venue in RB2 BWT.

That's cool. I guess it's like that in Quickplay in RB1, seeing as I only play in career that's kinda pointless.

I just beat GGAHT for the second time ever. Still only 309k though. I sure am shitty.

I did the same thing, but I was not given an option for an encore. Is the encore only in band mode, or on hard and above? I usually play hard/expert guitar, but was playing medium drums when I got to the Rolling Stone challenge. All I got was "hit the drums, make fireworks" thing and no encore. And won a sweet glow in the dark drumset.

That's awesome, I got some stupid clear guitar. I wonder if I can retry the challenge as a drummer and get that drum set...

For someone who doesn't know the names of songs but probably has heard some of these songs, are there any RHCP songs in the album that stand out?

You might have heard The Power of Equality before, but I'd really just stick with my previous suggestions.

5 best songs and 5 best for Rock Band will be two different lists...

Personally, if I were only to get 5, it'd be:
Under the Bridge (for popularity/familiarity)
The Greeting Song (for challenge, most likely)
Breaking the Girl (for vocals, great bass line, but mostly strumming guitar...a nice change of pace)
Mellowship Slinky in B Major (without a doubt, one of the most interesting progressions on the album)
Suck My Kiss (one of the most straight-forward tracks on the album, nice parallel guitar and bass lines)

alternate:
I Could Have Lied (slow, mellow, some awesome melodic solo work, same with the vocal lines)

Sir Psycho Sexy is a cool track, but it's 8 minutes of a very slow repetitive jam. Awesome for musicians, potentially mind-numbing for gamers.

There are a lot of songs that I haven't tried on guitar in RB2 still.
I decided to go for a couple songs that I haven't tried in ages because they intimidated me at the time.
Results:
Blackened: Passed... quite easily I might add
Thrasher: Fucking PASSED

I would love to see a Breaking Benjamin album, Phobia or We are not alone would be cool and Shinedown would be awesome to see as well. Even a 3 pack would be fine with me.

As for BSSM, I will probably pick up Suck My Kiss, Under The Bridge, The Wicked and I might get I Could Have lied.

Played some more and my high score hasnt updated yet on the rock band server. Unless things change I should have the 2nd highest score for Bass on My Best Friends Girl. There are a few bass songs I am in the top 50 now, but being number 2 is a great feeling. Usually my scores are right around the middle. Enough to get five stars or gold, but never at the top of the heap.

After trying to listen to some of BSSM today, I think I hate them too. They've got some singles I can enjoy, but for the most part they just really, really annoy me.

"Dani California" is the only song by them that I haven't completely hated with an almost unreasonable fury. It's a shame too because I acknowledge that Flea is a really talented bassist, but everyone in the bass community is always all over him and I just hate their music.

Of course, unlike guitar "best bassist" is usually heavily slanted in favor of jazz fusion bassists and others that aren't really well known to the public at large or the rock community. Just not the best genre to really showcase your talents.

Going through trying to get the 25 expert challenges achievement and just noticed something. Hungry Like the Wolf on expert bass has 666 notes! OMG!

And by the way, easiest challenge to get the "buy an instrument already" achievement is to do the Who's Next album challenge on expert bass. And dammit I would have had 100% on Wont Get Fooled again if my blue button(les paul) didnt short out occasionally. Made me miss two notes in the middle dammit, thus robbing me of my gold stars!

Maybe it's because I haven't seen the challenge yet, but I cannot imagine how that could be the easiest. Entwistle played some amazingly tough bass lines. Then again, it was usually much, much harder on the live songs (and "My Generation" both has that wicked bass solo and they used the live version), but still.

TheGreatDave said:
How annoying.

Even worse on the PS3 because you can't just delete... say, "BYOB" because you hate it and will never, ever beat it or want to play it. No, you're stuck with it and it will show up in BWT randomly and make you fail out of an otherwise easy set.

Speaking of which it seems like with BWT they've really just thrown the idea of a learning curve out the window entirely.

That would be nice. Stars are always going to be superior to score for me (I'll play it again to get the most stars, but not so much to gain a few points), but the ability to know and not just try to remember your score and then scroll back up (if it forces you down) to see if your new score is now the high score would be nice. I still really miss the local high scores from the earlier games. They solved this nicely. Not to mention the fucking detailed score... why did Harmonix drop this from RB? I can't even tell whether I missed a star power phrase or anything. Really, really annoying.

Indeed. I'd play bass anyway, but it's a nice feeling to have a small enough group that you can actually feel like you're making an impact. There are a couple of bass songs where I'm in the top 10 (PS3) and that just feels great. Not quite as great as leading the guitar career list for my friends list (seriously, any other gaffers on PS3 here that don't have me on the list... add me, I want to get an accurate idea of how we all stack up). Of course, as soon as I get some drums I'm going to have my ass handed to me repeatedly by just about everyone sort of how my vocal career score is pretty close to the bottom. Of course, I haven't even completed vocal career and might not ever.

There are already two Shinedown tracks as DLC. I wish they didn't exist or I could somehow delete them.

Scores should be all over the place. When I play a song, I want a Geo Wars 2 style target score; for EVERY song, not just BOTB. Loading screens should have a friends leaderboard. The song select screen should highlight songs a friend has recently beat you on. And after every song, show me a graph plotting my scores over time. Obviously some (most) people wouldn't want this, so make it an option rather than default, but it's the kind of stuff I really want to see.

BoTB sucks for now. I still have loads of challenges and tour stuff to beat. I think I did maybe 2 or 3 BoTB.

Maybe it will show it's purpose after I exhaust the single player content.

Some of that (e.g. graphs) seem like they might be best implemented online. Y'know, instead of a community function right now that's just a cesspool for the worst of the fandom.

The other problem, aside from a lack of cross-platform scores is that I don't really have any friends who play. So, uh... it's basically just me (and a few of the regulars here and more I'd also care about if we had cross-platform) and there's really no desire to beat the score of some anonymous stranger.

Personally I like the text-based loading screens. They should try to do more for each of them though... too many generic ones that get repeated all the time and not enough band/song-specific ones.

Yea, I have them already, and I love Junkies For fame. It is one of my favourite songs but I would like to get some of their older songs from their first 2 albums. Save me, Shed Some Light and Fly From the Inside would be a good 3 pack.

I think you've gotten all that you'll get for a while. I really don't hear people clamoring for them the way that they do with Rush or the like. I also tend to hear more people who dislike their sort of music. Be happy with what you have.

Now... where's my fucking Pavement? Do Dave and I have to get together and form Asphalt: A Loving Tribute to Pavement?

Actually, since we're international we might want to go with Bitumen (as Wikipedia informs me it's more generally known outside of the USA... is this also used to refer to it as a road surface?) since, ironically, my girlfriend is currently working with bitumen at a plant up in Alberta for a few months off and on.

You know I don't think I've ever heard a Pavement song and had never even heard of the band before hearing you guys go on and on and on about em.

With Teeth rock, so does U2 and I used to be a HUGE RHCP fan.

BRING ON THE HATE!

That's true Pavement didn't have a huge impact on the mainstream. They are, however, huge in the indie community and well known as one of the biggest and most important indie bands of the 90s. Kind of like how the Pixies have seen their fan base increase pretty heavily in recent years, but when they actually were together there was much less recognition.

I've been consistently hearing more and more about Spoon from mainstream sources and hearing some of their music in films and trailers, but they're in a somewhat similar position. They're so huge in the indie and music worlds that they're almost regarded as mainstream, but most people in the mainstream have never heard of them and I can't think of a time I've ever heard their music on the radio despite being fairly radio-friendly.

It also seems like you're just looking squarely at me when you're expecting the hate as I'm probably the biggest critic of all of these on here. I think I'm only #2 or #3 for Pavement fandom though... I can't compete with Dave.

Hopefully we've inspired you to actually listen to some Pavement.

Now we just need to get a stronger Ted Leo contingent here. I mean... the love for Ted Leo out in the underground is staggering.

None of my boring, real friends are awesome enough to play RB solo to the extent that we compete. I'm really in to these games for the old fashioned score battle, so I need to use XBL people...

You know what else I want?! A stats/record screen, that's as in-depth as Smash Bros. Time played, number of boots, notes hit, etc. I'd love and fear that information.

Reckon I'd get into Pavement based on my last.fm? http://www.last.fm/user/johnkers

Also, Spoon are fucking amazing, I love em so.

It's possible. Their sound can be pretty lo-fi and raw at times (primarily on their debut), but then it moves into well... all over the place. Various people will recommend various albums, but I suggest you give them a good listen and try a bunch before making a decision.

I also need to continue hyping both Failure and Hum as well. I think a lot of people would like them both, especially Failure because, well... they have a great grungey mid-90s sound, but just never really got the same national attention that other bands did. They deserved it though. Hum, well... apparently "Stars" was a bit of a minor hit and it's been used in some ad recently though I haven't seen it, but it's a great little song that's very, very catchy. I think they have it as a free download on their official site along with some rarities and EPs. They're much more space-rock/shoegazey (though not shoegaze at all) though, but with a harder edge. Lots of washes of sound.

Now, if you want some great modern shoegaze The Radio Dept. are fabulous. They're a great Swedish band and well... I just fucking love them.

BobsRevenge said:
Their songs just wouldn't be that fun unfortunately. I'm a huge fan too.

I can definitely see that being an issue.

I'm also probably one of the few people who would want Guster in the game. Picking something like "Red Oyster Cult" (the version they played on Austin City Limits with an added horn section was just amazing... but I'm a sucker for horns) that actually has a conventional drum kit might make a bit more sense, but it would be awesome to pick one of the songs that uses the hand-struck drums that they typically use. Especially if it's possible to make it work in RB using your hands. "Come Downstairs And Say Hello" would, aside from being a great song, be pretty great on drums. Yeah, those are hand-struck cymbal hits there. Not so great on guitar though as it's pretty chord-heavy.

Plus they're a Boston-area band... c'mon Harmonix, I know you love to give more exposure to your locals.

Yea that would be awesome. On another note I finally gold starred Green Grass on guitar! Woo! Got 440k at that, was an insane run.

Forget about alcohol you know what makes a group of friends over for RB great (aside from having enough friends that like the game... I have no idea why I have such odd friends)? Hot fresh cookies right out of the oven. Trust me on this one.

Are you kidding? If anything the baked goods genre is completely underrepresented. I bet you fucking only eat BBQ and disregard all other products because they're not 'manly' enough. We've had more than enough BBQ over the last few months, it's about time we get some baked goods. Belgand has the right idea, cookies would be the perfect place to start. Some people have no taste, Jesus Christ.

Another Roadrunner pack would be awesome. So many good bands to choose from:

Trivium
The Cult
Stone Sour
Staind
Soulfly
Slipknot
Opeth
Nightwish
Nickleback
Megadeth
Machine Head
Lamb of God
Killswitch Engage
Kill Hannah
Dream Theater
Dragon Force
Fear Factory
Devil Driver
CKY
Atreyu
Airbourne

Stand out, extra awesome bands bolded. Bands with songs already in Rock Band underlined.
Anyways, plenty of material available for a Roadrunner pack 2!
Metal fans unite!

:lol Where the hell did all that come from!

I like a lot of those bands The Jer, but I really don't want to see Dragonforce in Rock Band at all. I'm a huge Trivium fan and I hope they show up in some way.

If you're refering to the Overscan option in display settings, that's there in the first game. I'm not aware of anything changed in that department (and I find it quite annoying in fact, it's the only game I have to keep changing the setting on depending on the display I'm using)

I see what you're doing here. Well played, sir, well played.

It's not that I don't like BBQ, it's just that we have so little good BBQ around. Seriously. Is it just completely impossible for people to understand how good pork burnt ends are?
