Fucking Champs? More like Fucking Shit!

You compare them to Bang Camaro and then post a youtube clip with almost 8 minutes of them standing motionless playing some mellow-ass shit. Bang Camaro would fucking eat them for breakfast!

I said it wasn't a very good clip, but one of the few one in decent quality. Trust me, you need to see them live. Frankly I debated even posting a clip at all because it was hard to find any that had an ideal song and were actually watchable/listenable.

They've also got a name that pretty much means they'll either never be played on Alternative radio stations or if they are played they won't be credited properly.

That is part of what makes them great. It's a name that looks great on the marquee. Apparently they used to be "The Champs" at some point, but the name was taken. This, to me at least, causes me to question the way the name can be interpreted:

angrily: e.g. "Screw you bastards taking our name! We're the Fucking Champs"
emphasis
descriptive: "Little known fact, but they've won the Great Municipal Fuck-Off for the past three years running."

Finally, I got my bands logo on my computer in all it's glory

Nice. I simply can't create a decent logo. Either for The Axis of Awesome (unfairly taken away from me by some jackass whom I will now hunt down and kill) or Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Actually, scratch that. I think I just came up with my new logo.

caved and bought the fucking fender bass.
Its cool if you really play bass because it feels pretty natural, but its less than perfect for guitar.

So to make it completely natural is the fret width the same making it more or less impossible for anyone to be able to play 1st and 4th fret at the same time, let alone 5th? Actually, no, I know it isn't.

Every so often I wonder if I ought to be playing a short-scale.

Actually, that has me wondering a bit. Of the people in here who play actual instruments who plays what and what sort of equipment are you using?

Me, I'm still learning so I'm using an Ibanez GSR200 bass in black. One of the older models before they added the active EQ. It was exactly what I was looking for and I just happened to chance upon it with a generic (actually, it's Crate, but for low-power amps does it really matter?) 15W practice amp for $100 locally.

Christ, All Right Now is fucking hard on vocals.

Yeah, I expected it to be. A shame that it's sort of sparse on guitar as I was looking forward to it, but vocals don't really interest me so there's not a lot of reason to get it.

So I finally got my 360 in so that I can give my brother's back but now I have to get all the songs from the old HDD. I'm downloading a lot of them right now, but even if I download them all, I'll lose a lot that I stupidly downloaded under my brother's tag. Is there any good way to transfer the data without a memory card? I don't have an elite so I didn't get the USB transfer cord.

If you downloaded songs under your brothers gamertag then I don't think there is a way to play them on a different gamertag.

He should be able to transfer the licenses to the new console right? I can't recall where to go to do so, but isn't there a way? They'd be tied to the console though, not his tag.

You should've made a new silver tag and then bought them under it on your brothers console. Then you could've used the DRM tool to transfer them to the new console.

You're pretty much boned unless he lets you use the DRM tool on his gamertag (which will also take all of his content with it).

Here's one of my band's logos...I had an awesome one for my original band on my friend's XBOX before I got my own XBOX. We were called Fistful of Kittens.

This is for my RB2 band Stormcrow:

Yeah, but the logo appears on a small corner/side of the picture..not the full picture.. :/ ..unless I'm missing something..

I can play all the songs on both tags on the old HDD. I realized that it was stupid to download songs on the old tag way too late, though, as I had already downloaded like 20 songs by that time. Also, I really want to have my old save tile from the other system. Maybe I'll just buy a memory unit after all.

do the "make merch" trick (highlight the part of the url that is your picture file in hi res) and then save it. Crop that bad boy to just get the logo in the corner.

The HDD has nothing to do with the DRM. It's all about the console and the gamertag. I could grab a new HDD today and download my tracks again and they'd work just fine offline provided I was playing on the console they were purchased on.

Bingo.

And today I was able to get all my band members together and customized, so tomorrow I'll have a nice high res image of my entire band. Aces.

Have this. Not a usual fan of Gibson, as I find their guitars to be imbalanced, but the thinner body of the SG Classic fixes this beautifully. Also have an Ibanez bass (SR) but I miss my old Guild. For amps, I use a VOX AD50VT...small, but versatile, and more than enough to just play at home. Bass I forget what I have.
Should mention that guitar and bass are NOT my instruments...those would be piano (1914 Steinway M) trumpet (silver Benge 3X) flute (Armstrong 303O S) and my voice (lifestyle abused cords).

I guess that means leaving the window open, till whenever the bar is finished..right? :p

Edit:
NEVERMIND!

No. When your picture is finished rendering click it and then find the link to "Make Merch" on your pictures page. It's directly under the image itself in a group of links.
This'll take you where you can make shirts/posters/buttons etc.
Up in the address bar you'll see that part of the link refers to a high res jpeg. Just highlight it and open it separately. That's the high res image.

Eh, a lot of us (myself included) have been kind of clueless to the new website's trickery. I imagine this isn't the last time it'll come up in the thread either. :lol

I learned how to play on a GSR200!
They are good basses IMO. I gave mine away, but sometimes I miss it for some reason.

The neck on the toy bass is a bit longer than the standard guitar, but its still about 6" shorter than my main bass. I never have had a fender bass (odd because I LOVE teles and Jaguars in guitars) but I'm assuming these arent built to scale.

This is the bass I play in real life:
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Spector-Legend4-Custom-Bass?sku=513824

p.s. I have teeny hands for a guy and I can uncomfortably do 4th and 1st fret. I cannot do 5th without moving the hand. Its not much of an issue for me, because if I DO need to go fast I just replace the note with another string, but I undersatnd that the sound is different and some hate that, but I have considered going 5 string for that very reason. blah blah blah

Finally got a decent shot from the website.

Introducing Suzie from Random Chance

She's currently recruiting permanent members for her band since HMX decided to make a buggy save system that lost her identical twin sisters band The Lazy Susans (which was appropriately themed with all members being named some derivative of Susan).

It doesn't help that they're actually good.

Besides, if they really wanted they could play the Trans Champs -- the collaboration between Trans Am and The Fucking Champs. Fact is there's no motivation for radio stations to play anything but what the majors feed them.

Over here Triple J (a Government funded National radio station) plays pretty much any decent Alternative music. But they won't credit a band called The Fucking Champs so any airtime they get would be useless in helping them extend their fanbase.

Something they should have considered when they decided to run with that as their name. :lol

Indeed.

It's quite funny that on Triple J they play a language warning before songs with decent amount of language in them and then the presenters go out of their way not to swear. I've heard them play a song and not be able to say what it was called before.

Piano and trumpet? Damn, you must be a devil with the ladies. I think we need to highlight to future generations that while guitar is often perceived to be a way to become interesting to women it does not provide you with the sexual skills that other instruments often tend to.

Ten-Song said:

True, but it's a non-essential word in their name. They could just as easily be called "The Champs" on radio or they could edit it to "The F-ing Champs" or just mute it out. All the standard bowdlerising techniques would work rather well.

Same problem here. My hands are only about six and a half inches from wrist to the tip of my middle finger and my reach is about 5 1/2 from index to pinky. I'm basically the same exact size as my girlfriend (well, actually an inch shorter, but we have the same shoe size as well) and getting 1st and 4th down is... unpleasant. It's possible with proper pivoting, but it's still never really comfortable.

What I continually find interesting is that shifting and finger independence are so much easier in-game than in reality. Sure having less distance between frets and only huge buttons to deal with makes it rather simple, but it's still a pretty significant difference for me.

How do you get the big pics? The ones on mine are all tiny.

Take a pic, go back into your pictures and click Make Merch. Get the URL for the picture out of the URL for that page (you'll know what I mean when you see it).

I had to resize that, it's about 1/3 the size it used to be.

nice, thanks. I wonder why they make it such a pain to see them in a decent resolution.

So, for anyone that grabs the hi-res pics..
Don't post direct links, or the picture..directly from the site.
Upload it to TinyPic or someplace else..a friend of mine is worried, they may "discover this trick" and let us "hi-res pictureless".. :p

That goes without saying. I've been putting mine up on Imageshack, as crap as it is.

DRM is digital rights management. It's the rules upon which you agreed to buy the the tracks when you made the transaction. You will not be able to play those tracks offline on another console. You will need to be signed into Live as the purchaser. This is how all Xbox Live content works. Signed to the console and the gamertag. You need one or the other for verification you bought the product.

Sony can be a real dick about DRM in other areas, but I'm surprised that they're pretty lenient when it comes to the PS3. Microsoft, however, are typically the absolute worst company in world when it comes to DRM. I haven't had to experience it first-hand, but it certainly looks pretty unpleasant for the 360. As online downloads become increasingly prevalent I think people are going to, hopefully, start realizing that Microsoft is a really bad company to be trusting with that sort of thing. Then again, they haven't realized it with OSes so it seems likely it will just be whining and complaining without any regard for making a change.

Plus Sony will probably turn around and fuck us all eventually. Nintendo I haven't heard much about, but they're still all crazily "OOOOH think of the children!!!" all the time anyway.

It's fine now as long as you don't do stupid shit like buying stuff under someone else's gamertag or someone else's console. The gamertag thing makes sense - you've just bought it for your mate, not yourself. The console thing doesn't make sense, but you've got a chance to fix it with the DRM tool so it's not a big deal anymore. I've got 3 consoles and don't have a problem since everything I own has been transferred to the one console via the DRM tool and I can use it all on the other 2 consoles if I'm signed into Live.

I'm intensely wary of DRM period. I don't plan on stealing anything and I'd like to have complete, unfettered ownership over what I purchase. This is one of the reasons I'm almost universally opposed to digital downloads of just about everything (aside from other reasons). At the very least I want to get my digital goods on some form of durable physical media not just bits carelessly flung through the aether that may very well vanish at a moment's notice.

I might also be one of the only people say that I dislike the download part as well compared to buying things in a store. There are other reasons, of course, but I find that just downloading something makes it feel insubstantial. It lacks the same feel of purchase that I get when I buy something in a store or even, for that matter, have a physical product delivered to my home. There's no moment of "it's mine now and I own it" to be had when you simply wait a bit and find it on your hard drive.

At the same time DLC for Rock Band is just about the only reasonable way of doing an a la carte system. For smaller games (e.g. Bionic Commando Rearmed, Mega Man 9) it also vastly reduces the cost of delivery and makes companies more willing to pursue such projects that might not have fared as well (and would certainly have more overhead costs) if they were released through conventional retail channels. I'm still not a fan, but it doesn't really bother me until it becomes a discussion of how in the future everything will be downloaded because it's supposedly better.

I think Nintendo's still the absolute worst about downloadable content DRM. Though I've had my fair share of problems with Microsoft as well (when I changed my gamertag, for whatever reason it then treated all my downloaded games as if I had downloaded them on another console, when the only thing that changed was how my gamertag was spelled).
