Rocket League free this weekend on Xbox One

Quick, tell everyone you know!

This weekend, we’re partnering up with our friends at Microsoft to give players of all Xbox Live membership levels FREE access to Rocket League on Xbox One (go here for more details)!

Starting this Thursday (June 9), you’ll be able download Rocket League at no charge through the end of Sunday (June 12) whether you have Xbox Live Silver or Gold – it’s open to all, regardless!

Though free access won’t be permanent (the game will revert to its normal “For Sale” status at the end of the promotion), you will still have the chance to grab Rocket League at a discount of 10% off if you buy it during the extended weekend. It’s our way of saying, “thanks for sticking with us” should you decide to make the plunge.

Thanks, downloading now. I was never too interested in the game, but given the praise it continues to receive I'll definitely check it out. This is a great way to get new players into the game.
 
this is fucking great as i've been wanting to try the game out based on all the positive word of mouth, but have been afraid to take the plunge because it honestly doesnt look like my kind of thing.




except i'll be out of town for a wedding. :(

I can't believe some people still haven't tried this.

If you're reading this, and haven't played it yet... Do it.

If you don't like soccer games, if you don't like driving games, if you don't like competitive games... That's ok. But Rocket League combines all of this into one of the best video games ever made.

Seriously! You have to try it. It's not overrated at all.

You will immediately find all FPS games boring and mediocre, and you will be consumed by the chasm of sick aerials, dribbles and all too prevalent whiffs for days on end. Rocket League is life strung out into billions of explosive 5 minute sessions.

It's bad when I go "cool, a weekend to try out a game for free!" pause, then remember that I own it via PS Plus.
 
All these people trying it for the first time. You have no idea how your worlds are about to change. Can you get your buddies to set up a reaction vid or something?
 
This is tons of fun. Sitting back while all the other five players are chasing the ball and then boosting up to slot the ball in never gets old.

On the one hand, being on PS+ got them good word of mouth. On the other hand, they lost a TON of money compared to how much the game would have made if sold for normal. The game was signed as PS+ before they knew it would blow up. Games with Gold doesn't pay enough for each copy sold for the devs to justify putting it on there since they now know the game is super popular.
 
Welp, guess I'll finally bite. I've wanted to buy it for ages now but with to many multiplayer games on my plate (Madden, Halo 5) I didn't want to add another one.

On Xbox Live there was, and still is a "Weekend Unlock Bundle" which, via the Xbox app on my phone, I "purchased," with the assumption it would be downloaded by the time I got home from work.

Edit: I see someone has already pointed this out.
 
I played it maybe 3 or 4 times on PS4 and it didn't click for me. I really want it to, so maybe I have to play more or maybe I'm just in the severe minority? Haven't tried it lately since I let my PS+ run out so I'll definitely give it another try on X1 this weekend.
 
All of my friends are on Xbox One and will try the free weekend. If I'm on PS4, can I play it with Xbox One players if we all enter a PC server?

wait, the wording is confusing me. So you cant keep it forever if you download it in the free period?

Microsoft and Sony announcing they're finally formalizing this would be the best thing out of E3 2016. Retail games could have a new "Cross Network Play" logo on Xbox/PS4 boxes and stuff.
 
What the heck I downloaded this and freaking Minecraft was downloaded too, I didnt download that, I uninstalled it right away
 
Anyone else unable to update the game? My system shows the following message:

Rocket League needs an update, but something went wrong. For help, vist [Xbox Support link]

This is the only game that is having this problem. Should I redownload entirely and try again?

I had to delete the game and download again to make it work
 
To all those about to experience the game for the first time, I wish you good luck.

Good luck trying to quit the game. It's so fucking addicting. It's the best.
