I purchased this after seeing the love this game gets from certain people here touting it as an openended experience. In fact, I recall people claiming that the game got trashed by reviewers simply because they weren't expecting an openended rpg. Well, I've been playing if off and on for about a month now and have put in about 20 hours total. From what I have played so far, I have to say I just don't get what people were talking about. Sure, you are free to go to any location on the worldmap but there is absolutely NOTHING to do in any of those places. I was expecting there to be quests galore but instead the game feels like you are set to a predetermined path that just happens to be scattered throughout a clusterfuck of locations you can visit at any time. Imagine playing Fallout 2 but being forced to play in linear path to make any progress at all and that is what this game feels like to me.
I really want to like this game. I love the fast paced battles and streamlined experience/techniques system. I've been avoiding the appreciation threads in fear of spoiling something. So can someone please show me what I'm not getting or at least confirm my impressions so I don't waste any more time on it.
