seeing this in imax tonight, was considering getting there about 1.5 horus before the showing, hav etickets already, but, wondering if this is even enough time, or should i go earlier?!

Ok I'm leaving now for the IMAX theatre in Mississauga (Coliseum). Screening is at 3:20. If anyone happens to be going there then that's cool. I'll be lining up early since I want the best seat, hopefully no one else will care that much.

Saw it last night at 10:45. Still don't know how the theater got away with showing it before midnight since every other theater I checked had 12:01 showings. Oh well, I guess I won!

Anyway, the movie was pretty good. A couple of editing problems, but I think that might have been because of the dead dude. For instance, the scene when the Joker throws that cunt out the window at the party and Batman jumps out after her, they crash into a car and then the next scene takes place the next day. What the hell happened to the Joker? He just gave up looking for Harvey and left? Why didn't they show that? LAME!

I also felt that Two Face didn't get enough screen time. Probably should have saved him for the sequel. I think they were shooting for a sequel with the Joker, seeing as how he didn't die, but that's not going to happen now!

One Final comment. I am SICK of hearing on the internet, tv, etc. how Ledger was UNBELIEVABLE and will win an Oscar. Don't get me wrong. He was good, but not nearly as good as the tools in the media have made him out to be. If he was still alive, no one would say shit.

Serious, I dont want it to seem like I am complaining, but ffs there is a spoiler thread where descriptions of the film can go in. Most people are in here to hear how the film affected them, not shit INSIDE the film..damn

I'm amazed at how little has actually been shown in the advertisements. Literally people, you can spoil yourself all you want with the marketing - the last hour of the film isn't even fucking hinted at.

And yea, people who haven't seen the film saying "Oh this happens all the time, wait till the hype dies down, they'll come back to their senses".....no. This doesn't happen all the time. I don't readjust my favorite film of all time at the drop of a hat. If you say that we need more time, need to view it more often, sure, I can handle that....but saying this happens all the time? Almost unanimous best film praise? ......:lol no. I don't see that happen. Ever. Please, see the film before telling us to calm down. Preferably in Imax.

I didn't proclaim it a masterpiece and i wouldn't go *that* far in hyperbole mode... yet. :P I had a few tiny issues with it. The dialogue was a little iffy at times, and some scenes were quite heavy handed, but in the scheme of things they didn't matter for me.

I see where you're coming from, though, but don't tell me you won't be tripping over yourself if Quantum of Solace delivers! :) These impressions are kind of expected when people are blown away and steering clear of posting major spoilers. Plus the movie actually lived up to the massive amounts of hype.

Thanks for the impressions, Spotless. Ill be tripping over myself if QoS rocks, but I wont turn around and say its the greatest thing ever made, which was really my whole point. Even with the things I love, I try to keep a level head on my joygasming.

Anyways, 4 hours away now. Got some things I need to finish up and some errands to run beforehand, so next time I post, it will be as someone who has seen it.

Incredible movie.

I really don't go see movies in theaters multiple times, but I'm thinking of doing it for Dark Knight. It was that good.

This just might make Titanic numbers. The people pouring out of the theater....the entire parking lto was gridlock at 3:30 in the morning. I think moe people saw TDK last night at that theatre than all the other films combined that day.

I want to do a full discussion when people around the world have had more time to see it, but for now let me say
the scene with the black man and the remote gave me chills. The entire setup was absolutely brilliant.

Bottom line, go see this movie, NOW.
Yes, I couldn't believe the choice he made. So well directed, so perfect, so convincing. Everyone in the theater cheered.

DAMMIT!! I want to see it now!!!

PS - I read somewhere tha Nolan signed on for 3 movies. Is that correct?

I believe it is only Christian Bale who is signed for 3 movies(maybe a couple of other actors). Chris Nolan is not. In fact, for a while there it seemed like he wasn't gonna make TDK. :P

Count me in the camp that thinks Batman Begins is the most overrated film on GAF ever. I'm also not a fan of Batman in general.

With that said, The Dark Knight blew me away. I can't believe just how good the film is and how fantastic a villain the Joker is. The various plot twists were so well-placed and the soundtrack is heart-poundingly good.

I was really looking forward to Heath Ledger's Joker and was expecting it to carry the film but I really wasn't expecting the great story and plot. It can be argued that the pacing and length could have used some work but thinking about it, the film seemed to have cramped two films into one long film really well.

at this point, i don't see how they can top this.

i'd rather they just say "fuck it" and make a romantic comedy with Bruce Wayne, Scarlett Johanson as the love interest, and Morgan Freeman as the token black guy

How does the IMAX thing work? Does the movie fill the whole screen the entire time, or only during action sequences? Like what's the difference between the IMAX scenes and the regular scenes? I have the option to see it at a local theater tomorrow, or wait until Sunday when I could drive an hour to the nearest IMAX theater.

during the action scenes, the screen fills up the entire screen.

during the regular scenes, it's wide screen.

from slashfilm:

6. IMAX - If you don’t see this movie in IMAX than you haven’t seen the movie. A few of the action sequences and many of the establishing shots throughout the film were shot using IMAX cameras. The result is breathtaking. There is a sequence where Batman leaps off the top of a building (you’ve probably seen it in the trailers) and the camera pushes in. It’s so vivid and high resolution that it almost felt like it was part of one of those motion controlled theme park rides. Going into the screening, I thought the IMAX thing was probably more gimmick than anything else. Previous IMAX presentations involved up-converting the 35mm film image to fit on the IMAX screen. The footage shot with the IMAX camera is amazing. Even if you’ve seen a traditional IMAX movie in the past, you will be blown away by seeing a Hollywood action film on the big big screen. It makes you wonder why more Hollywood productions haven’t begun incorporating the IMAX camera. I wouldn’t be surprised if the inevitable third Batman movie wasn’t shot completely shot on IMAX cameras.

FRIDAY 7AM: Warner Bros is well on its way to making Hollywood history this weekend. That's because its opening comic book caper The Dark Knight is already on its way to breaking records left and right today even as it's still sparking a ticket-selling frenzy across North America. I've just been told that the latest Batman installment's $18.4 million midnight shows broke the record of $16 million set by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. Across North America, theater owners are working feverishly to squeeze in more screenings to meet voracious moviegoer demand.

Went to the midnight showing last night. Absolutely amazing movie. I went into it with extremely high expectations and was not disappointed. The running length was a bit much for a midnight showing - we didn't get out until roughly 3am - which is my only "complaint.". Heath Ledgers performance is one for the history books. This is easily among my top 5 movies ever.

Oh, don't bother sticking around after the credits as nothing happens. Over half the theater stayed, I would imagine all of us hoping for a Ledger tribute of sorts.

^^an addendum to that, though. The only IMAX theater I can readily get to is a museum OMNIMAX dome. I'm relaying this second-hand, but by all accounts, the picture you'd get there is so distorted that you'd be better off just seeing a regular 35mm print.

BTW, who else loves the soundtrack? "Watch the World Burn" is CHILLING.

When Batman's "theme" started playing during his assault on the SWAT team in Joker's hideout....holy shit!

I think you'll probably find problems with the structure and pacing. Some of the rotten reviews on RT were pretty spot-on with this.

In our theater all of the movie posters for other movies had been defaced, spray painted (presumably) by the joker. Like for instance, on The Strangers poster someone had spray painted "whatever doesn't kill you makes you..." with "the" blacked over.

There was an old cloverfield poster up on which the statue of liberty was painted over to resemble batman.

All in all, good pre-movie priming. Just like at a (good) amusement park.

If you look for problems, you'll find them, just like any other film. The trouble is, how much can the film really make you forget it's flaws? TDK does so very easily.

I just got back from this.

10 out of 10. Not even kidding. Then again, I've loved Batman since the dawn of my birth.

ALSO: WATCHMEN LOOKS FUCKING HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!

They always say this. Matt Damon said the third Bourne movie would be his last, and if they wanted to do another one, they would have to find someone else to play Bourne. Now look what happened. The movie made over 400 million dollars worldwide and is a smash hit, and Universa,l along with Matt and Paul, will do a 4th Bourne.
