I guess this is one of these threads were you're not allowed to have a negative opinion about this film without getting flamed.

Someone in another thread brought up a good point. He didn't know he would be captured by Gordon and all that... but if he was going to be captured and put in jail, his backup plan involved the crooked cops to kidnap Dent and Dawes and bring in the 'cop-killer' to set them up the bomb.

Or, he didn't need Gordon for his plan to go off. Either he wanted to be killed by Batman (and make him break his one rule), or be put in jail by any one of the cops. His escape plan never hinged on Gordon being there.

There are a lot of people that are considering "It was pretty good" to be a serious affront to traditional notions of decency.

But yeah, it was pretty good, not great, or anything.
 
So I saw it again (yeah, 3 times, so sue me) and I think the best line in the movie is being completely overlooked.

After Dent has died and Gordon is speaking he says two things..

In regards to Dent at the press conference: "He wasnt the hero we deserved, he was the hero we needed"

In regards to Batman to his son: "He's the hero we deserve, not the hero we need"

Fucking brilliant line that sums up the entire movie...

So, after seeing the movie 3 times in three (two?) days I've decided this is one of my top 10 movies easily. I'll know where it ranks in a while...

also I have another group of friends seeing it tonight.. I might do it. :lol
 
im starting to think, every Director of Photography, needs that have there shaky came taken away and then kicked in tne mouth as a warning to never use it again. Also nolan needs an action director thats a little (just a little, big improvement over BB butthe fightscenes are still meh). but nolan and his team as a whole can direct people and there interactions at top notch qualities/ best for the type of films he creates. get the guy who does bourne as his secondary (even though i dont think nolan uses a secondary) to do the fight scenes and whatever the 3rd movie/ trilogy end its will be top TDK, not really ledger, but at least be on par. i loved this movie, dont know if i want to put myself through an imax with some of those shots but it would be really nice. An AWESOME out of 4

I agree, That is the one thing that has been needing to be corrected. The choreography for the fights have been really bad.
 
I'm so sad that the earliest showing of this on an IMAX screen is on WEDNESDAY. I'm not going to see this until WEDNESDAY NIGHT. AUGH. For those of you who have seen it on IMAX, is it worth waiting?
 
Heath's Joker is now up there with the all time bad guys of cinema.

Brilliant.

Ive seen it twice, and will probably see it 1-2 (35mm once more, and I still need to check the IMAX version out) times more. Then that will be enough until the BD hits.

well, it didn't necessarily have to be Gordon. I'm sure any SWAT guy could have done the job.

but honestly, even though Gordon said, "The Joker planned to be captured", I don't think that's the case with the Joker.

I think the cell phone stuff and the Harvey Dent/Rachel choice was an insurance policy by the Joker in case he did get caught.

Part of the message of the Batman movies is to aspire to be a hero and not to wait for one.
 
Alright. Just got back from the movie. EPIC! Movie of the year all the way. I had to give Ledger's performance as the Joker a stand ovation. He nailed it. Perfection. The moment...

...you see Joker enter the room with the other ring leaders, seeing him move, the way he talked. The joke with the pencil used as his "magic trick". I knew it was just going to get better. Brilliant.

I think I may go see this again tomorrow. Soooooo good.

Spot on, The Joker was just knocked right out of the fucking park! You just can't top his performance.

My wife and I were leaving and then we both asked how in the hell can they top this for the next one????
 
I went in today not expecting Heath's performance to be anything special(I got was very surprised), also
thought Two-face would have had less to do with the movie.
This movie wasn't what I expected.. IT WAS BETTER.
 
Just saw this tonight. Ummm . . . can I die now? Because there's no point in seeing any movie ever again!!

Christ, I was exhausted by the end of it, in a good way. Two of the friends I went with thought it was too depressing, but if you knew their personalities you'd know that they don't like anything that isn't cheery 100% of the time, so that was to be expected - they really actually tend to get on my nerves, because they don't want to internalize anything or realize that, well, screwed up shit happens in this society.

I'm glad I stayed relatively spoiler free so some of the main points came as a complete shock to me. Everyone knows what they are. Seriously, Ledger just lived this role, and it was completely shocking to me to see the Joker in this way after so many crappy versions of him on film. Given the fate of some people though I'm wondering how they can even do a sequel.

I was thinking Two-Face was going to be left alive for the third film.

They went with looks over talent with Katie Holmes and ended up with the one weak link in that film. The role is more important than eyecandy.

Having seen the movie twice now, I don't feel there was anything that really stood out about Gyllenhaal's performance. I really think anyone could have done the job she did.

I don't get why people are hung up on Maggie's looks. If not seen as that level of attraction, she's still a far cry from ugly.

Anyway she lent a level of maturity that Katie just didn't really pull off with Bale and co. previously.

Uh no she actually played a decent role in the old one

reminding bruce who he is and what he stands for - also she played his love interest that was suppose to be built up to something good in the second one
 
Holy shit that was awesome! HOLY SHIT!!!!

It was bittersweet though. I am so sad the Heath Ledger is dead. His version of the Joker is the best villian of all fucking time. I want him to come back in a sequel SO BAD!! =_(

Dark Knight set the bar to new amazing heights. It will not be an easy feat to top.

I think a lot of the Katie Holmes in Batman Begins hatred is due to Tom Cruise. That movie, as I recall, came out around the time that Cruise got engaged to her and started embarrassing himself around the country (although that was also overblown). I didn't think she was nearly as bad as people made her out to be. Nothing special, but nothing terrible either.
 
Gyllenhaal's delivery is what bothered me the most. Watch the scene after Dent takes her away from Bruce on the balcony, the way she tries slowly rolling her tongue over certain lines (Was she trying to act seductive?) was cringe worthy. Oddly enough she tries the shame shtick when they have Lau in prison cell.

I actually liked Gyllenhaal in the past so it's not blind hate here, but honestly she was pretty awful here.

That and the fact that Holmes went on Letterman or Leno or one of those and told people to go see "War of the Worlds" to support her husband rather than go see "Batman Begins" - the movie she was actually on the damn show to promote.
