Never heard about that, and it's not a classy move, but that still has nothing to do with her performance. It just reinforces what I was saying, that people were hating on her performance for reasons having nothing to do with it.

Neither one acted better than the other but at least holmes has the sex appeal to have two guys believably fighting over her.

Personally, I never really saw her anymore than a forced love interest that could have been handled without when there was everything around Bruce that could easily remind him what he should stand for. Though I didn't have any animosity towards Katie Holmes or anything like many did when it first came out, I thought she did well enough.

Katie or Maggie, not much of better one or the other for me.

Though I do agree The Dark Knight handled the value and worth of the character extremely well to Bruce and Dent's character.

It's likely gonna go down over time, but I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a #1 on IMDB not named The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption in many years, if ever. Really impressive. Everyone seems to love the film, from the critics to the moviegoers to the hardcore comic fans. I don't see it leaving the top 10 in that list.
 
Well this is my second time seeing TDK. Getting ready for a 3rd IMAX version next week or so. I wonder what Tim Burton, Jack Nicholson and Keaton think about the movie if they see it.
Also makes me wonder how some of the popular directors think about TDK. Like M Bay, J Cameron.

Just saw it. Very happy camper, especially since it was only $5/ticket.

Got ya beat.. local theatre is $2.25 during the day and $4.50 at night. Not the greatest theatre, but if you want to see a movie, it's the cheapest option next to piracy.

I don't believe that Holmes is very believable as the DA's assisstant, Maggie G. is very believable and she has some mysterious sex appeal about her, I can't put my finger on it. She's not hot, but at the same time she is hot.

Please no more Holmes/Gyllenhaal comparisons, Holmes would have been the only bad thing about TDK.
 
Fantastic, fracking awesome, incredible movie I have seen, seriously the best super hero movie that transcends being a superhero movie. The sense of dread, the sense of the unknown of what's going to happen has never been expressed in a superhero movie as much as the dark knight.

I've read many comments here but still tried to go in with a open mind about the movie and man, that 2 1/2 hours went quickly, I actually wanted more of the movie. If the movie was 5 hours long, I probably wouldn't have mind. I've only had two complaints, and those are Bale's DEEP Batman voice towards the end of the movie, his throat must really hurt after this movie and Rachel Dawes, who I understand is there for the purpose of the plot but really she was the weakest of the overall cast members.

What I liked about the movie was the cast and how they were used and what they do in certain situations. Aaron Eckhart did justice to the role of Harvey Dent more so than anyone ever, yes even better than Tommy Lee Jones. This movies feels more like a Harvey Dent story than a Batman/Joker one. Christian Bale once again played a very convincing Batman, wondering what he does and what Batman stands for is right or is he causing more harm than good. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman as usual are awesome and funny and fantastic in their respective roles.

Heath Ledger by far took the whole show for me, the Joker was a villain that only Batman could stomach fighting, Spider-man would have given up by the 2nd half of the film. Heath Ledger just took the role and total sunk into the persona of the Joker that we know in the movies. The interrogation scene was insane, and the hospital......... Oh blooding crap!!! Just oh crap.

Gary Oldman as well stole the show as Lt. Gordon, he was not some idiot who would call the Batman but actually does something other Gordons neglect to do in other Batman movies and that is POLICE WORK. Gordon has always had a trust in the Batman and by the end of the movie his trust is solidified even more than ever. This is something that has always been neglected in other Batman films.

Hats off to Christopher Nolan, who took an almost dead franchise, no thanks to Joel Schumacher and Clooney, and turned it into something more than it ever was envisioned by Burton. Everything in Christopher Nolan's version of Batman is set in reality and yet stays so true to the Batman mythos.

If the looks distract from the rest of the film, fuck yes they are everything. The bags/lines under her eyes, her jowls (yes, jowls) and her mannerisms as Rachel just left me wondering why the fuck either of those two knuckleheads would care so much.

That said, did anyone else pick up on some of the Killing Joke cues in the flick? That's what really made the movie special, it felt like (even though Killing Joke was a relatively short novella) it was that book drawn out over the two hours with none of the same content. That was the absolute best example of the relationship between the Joker and Batman.

Yeah well I fucking hate The Killing Joke, so glad the Joker references to it only in jest. Worst origin story EVER.

My one complaint is
not maggie gyllenhall, who is hot as fuck
, but the look of Gotham. I swear it was just New York :P
 
Just saw the movie...

Personally, I think it is the best Batman movie made. I think the ethical questions and study of the human condition, Ledger's performance as Joker, the non-stop action (and detective work) combined to make a superlative super hero movie (possibly the best super hero movie of all time).

I still can't stand Bale's "Batman" voice... sounds like a mad drunk howling at the moon...

And please get a good looking female lead. Between this and Mary Jane from the Spiderman movies, it's hard to relate to the protagonist's attraction to below average looking women...

But anyways...did I ever tell you guys how I...
 
Yeah, I always figured Gotham was Chicago and Metropolis was New York City.

But DC apparently has a New York City as well. Which is weird.

And in at least like 4 other films but there was something offputting about her in this one. It was probably her upper lip that looked more butt-ish than usual.

They had a sod bed in Secretary. They could have just had a picture of that with no actors and I still would have had a boner.

When is she is smiling, she is incredible cute imo. She has a really attractive smile.

But when not, sometimes she can look kinda wierd.

As seen in the pics above. First two she is smiling = so cute. Second Two no smile = eh.

Alright I think I'm going to see this movie tomorrow. I had absolutely no plans to watch it but I'll be as bored as shit and there's nothing else to do.

I'm not a Batman fan but I'd like to see just how awesome Ledger plays the Joker.

Oh well, nothing we can do to change it. The Blu-Ray is going to suck because of her though, high res wrinkles. :x
 
Just got back from seeing this for the first time. I really liked it, but with all the hype I was expecting a little more. I loved everything to do with the Joker, but merely liked most everything else. Ledger's Joker made the movie.

Not really. I honestly was just mentioning it, I didn't know that the Maggie Gyllenhaal Defense Force was going to be on the attack tonight. I hadn't read the whole topic.

Further, the fact that I am not the only one mentioning it makes me at least feel a little better.
 
She definitely looked awful.

Anyway, just got back from seeing it in IMAX. It was just too much. I couldn't see what the hell was going on half the time, and we had seats like right in the middle of the theater, maybe a bit more near the top. Nevertheless, the movie was still amazing, and Ledger was fucking godly. At no point did I ever think it was Heath Ledger. Fucking incredible.

But I need to see it in a regular 35 mm theater now. I just didn't remember IMAX being like that, but I saw Matrix Revolutions in a different IMAX theater -- that may have made a difference.
 
Okay, ignoring the issue of Maggie's (fuck it, I can't spell her last name) looks, which is extremely subjective (and I thought she was crazy hot in Secretary, but to each his own), can we at least agree that she's a much better actress? The, uh, important scene she's in could not have been done by Katie Holmes because she just doesn't have the acting chops for it. It would have been cheesy and soap opera melodrama.

Weird. You're right, it was filmed in Chicago. I dunno. The cityscapes looked different from my expectation of Chicago. Cleaner and glassier. At any rate, it still didn't feel like the Gotham from the first movie to me.

Maybe I just need to rewatch the first movie, and I'm getting some of the ubergothic stuff from the Burton movies mixed in.
