I understand. Personally, clarity wasn't an issue with me. I understood every word with no effort.

My problem was it sounds so inappropriate depending on what type of line is being delivered. Sure it sounds perfectly ok when he's barking at enemies to put the fear of God in them. It sounds totally bizarre and almost parody-like when he's trying to discuss why there's totally some good in people or whatever philosophical bullshit he has to get across about the nature of criminals.

The worst BAT VOICE delivery for me was the following scene:

Your brand of justice is the first legitimate ray *deep breathe* of hope this city has seen in decades. All those mafia members you put in prison, all the work you've done to clean up the streets... all of it would be undone if you were caught doing this.

anyway i cant wait to see what they will do with a 3rd one. i know for one thing nolan will not do another just to do another one. it wont be for the money.

if he does the 3rd one it will be because he has a idea/theme that fits with a great story which he wants to tell. i have full confident that when he decides to the 3rd one it will only be because he has something which he believes tops TDK in every aspect.

one thing i really look forward to is that he seems to have taken some of the complaints about BB and really worked on them. now TDK is nearly flawless IMO but still had some minor issues so i would love for him to make a movie that takes the best of BB and TDK and brings the story back towards Batman.
 
Maybe if enough people bitch about it from now till the next movie we'll have a scene where Bruce goes to Lucius:
"I need something" (hands papers)
"You wanna be able to change your voice?"
"My throat gets sore... plus I sound retarded"
 
There's one other bit I didn't like and that was the really generic "comedy" lines.

"I didn't sign up for this"
"That's not good...that's so not good"

It felt so out of place.

Also nobody is saying the Nolan Brothers shouldn't be given another shot, despite your reading deficiencies itt. Does it really matter if its better than TDK though? Indiana Jones had raiders, Star Wars had Empire Strikes Back. Theres always going to be a best of the 3.

no it doesn't matter, really. My personal perspective on movies and stories and books and comics and whatever is to end on the high note, the peak. That's just a personal perspective. Like you say, something has to be the best... and a third film will probably still be pretty good in its own right.

Just because I don't think it should be done, doesn't mean it won't be done and doesn't mean the end result won't be perfectly good :)

I genuinely feel that they wrapped up the Batman story in an incredibly satisfying manner, and that the ending is really pitch perfect as a representation for the enduring symbol of the Batman franchise. That's why I personally would not want another one, even apart from the opinion that DARK KNIGHT will never be topped by another Batman movie.

Yeah. Who is responsible for this? The police chatter in BB and DK were both awful.
 
Just came back from the second viewing, which did wonders for me because I had time to reflect and look for cues and appreciate the small touches, and how it all comes together. It's so carefully crafted, they couldn't have made a better job with what they had and Nolan is obviously a perfectionist [/fanboi]. And of course, Ledger has such an enormous presence - an amazing method actor, only Oldman's diabolical acting came close I thought.

I don't understand the critique against the third act because that would've lost an important aspect of the plot - the idea and notion to extend that part into a third film is really fucking terrible, what's in TDK is sufficient, to the point, and without needless events and words.

WHEN DO WE GET THE BLU-RAY?

Well today the movie is predicted to gross more than yesterday then sunday is predicted to gross a little higher as well. It will be a great second weekend for the dark knight.

Batman voice is fine by me, dunno why its bothering a lot of you .. I've seen all the Batman feature films and think this one is the best.
 
one of my favorite smaller/subtler points of the movie was after batman has the joker trapped in that little booth in the final (construction building) scene between the two of them.

i can't remember what the dialog is at the point i'm referring to, but the joker says something, and when batman replies, he's still angry, but at the same time his shoulders sag and you can tell he's mired in frustration and exhaustion, both with what he's had to do because of this guy, and why.

it's enjoyable, because most of the time there really isn't too much to "batman" aside from acting either really angry scary or stealth scary (or in quiet physical pain), so it was nice to see a different range thanks to the joker breaking down that wall.

Yeah... but BB had the same shit with the "I've got to get me one of those!"-lines, the one you're quoting really took me out of it though.

And I got to say, from just coming out of the theatre, BB impressed me more overall. Maybe I was just expecting a bit too much from the Memento/Prestige duo but... it didn't outdo the original for me. Ledger was great and the fights were better and all that but, eh, maybe I'll come around to it when I eventually watch it again on blu-ray (like I did with BB). :P

I really don't have a problem with the voice either but I do see how it could bug people.
 
I'm actually a fan of the bat-voice. In the context of the film it makes perfect sense. Batman is a beast in the eyes of his enemy, and he cultivates that image. In Batman Begins the first time I heard the voice when he said "I'm Batman" it made me shiver.

Anyway I don't think TDK ended on a good note to conclude the franchise. Batman is hated and hunted by the police? If anything it's a perfect setup for the third film, and Batman's redemption.

Yeah, I came away thinking that as well. It's such a strong ensemble piece, but those two deserve a lot of credit. I've been a fan of Oldman's for a good 15 years or more, so I'm thrilled to see him doing such quality work still. And Eckhart made his character and the emotional arc he goes through utterly believable. It could have failed in so many ways, but I found it really emotional.

I'm going to see The Dark Knight again on Wed in the "Gold Class" section with big comfy chairs. Also major props again to Oldman and Eckhart - they both did their roles so well. Gary Oldman is such a fine actor that he completely blew away his Batman Begins performance out of the water.

It was as if Nolan said to the cast "ok guys, time to man the fuck up and do the greatest acting imaginable."
 
I really like how the film's title "The Dark Knight" had its meaning illuminated to me at the very end, with Gordon's soliloquy. The whole movie was about Dent being Gotham's white knight and about preserving this image or hope of the public white knight to the public. With those lines in the script for the ending dialogue, you suddenly realise what the movie's title is all about although throughout the film only the concept of the "white knight" was being developed and grown.

Very nice.

Again, I haven't decided how amazing The Dark Knight is although Ledger was perfect. But I have decided that Unbreakable is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
 
This thread should be renamed as IMDBWATCH because what's happening over there at the top of the top 250 is far more interesting than the RottenTomatoes rating.

I'm in the same minority; love Unbreakable club, (Hated 6th sense btw) even have it in my HD collection. But I wouldnt say it touches TDK.
 
Saw the movie on Saturday and I agree with the sentiment that it was the best comic book movie ever.

The most surprising thing to me was how much better Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was than Jack Nicholson's.

It's also really interesting how The Shawshank Redemption had overtaken The Godfather's #1 place just before TDK was released, so the top 3 right now could change around completely at any point.
 
Man, I need to see the awful movie again at Imax.
I really don't want to because it's so god damn awful and horrible.
But I think watching it again.. no.. forcing myself to watch it again in Imax will make me see just how crap the film is. I can look at the little details.

Given that he's also dead it's pretty much inevitable that he'll get an Oscar if you ask me, not that he doesn't deserve it (the Oscar that is).
 
Saw it for the second time in IMAX and the experience was MUCH better. Sitting in the top row and the whole theater was super serious and quiet, even with some young kids in there. I watched almost the whole thing while leaning forward in my seat :lol
 
I just got back from the flick last night. I thought it was awesome all but 2 things.

1) I didn't care for the ending.
I was hoping they would have closure with the joker etc.
The comic book story yaddy yadda, you have your point but
still I wanted closure to the story.

2) The batman voice seemed even more exaggerated than normal and was really silly :lol Kinda ruined his talking parts for me. I just hoped he would shut up.

Everything else was very entertaining, and what a movie should be. 8.8/10.

There's been a total of seven Oscar nominations to dead people in the Academy's history, and only one Oscar winner.
 
This has probably been said to death already, but my biggest problem with the film is that it wasn't rated R.

edit: Oh, and that ridiculous cop in the tunnel chase that narrated EVERYTHING (kinda like the dude in the water control booth at the end of Batman Begins).

That hasn't really been said at all. Mostly, people have been praising Nolan for managing to create a dark and fairly violent film and still somehow keep it PG-13 (which the film likely received only because of the lack of blood and language). It's living proof that an action film doesn't have to be rated-R to be great, though of course, not everybody is Christopher Nolan. Some parents have been complaining, though, apparently.

I have to wonder what kids thought of this movie. Did they even remotely enjoy it?

My local news did a story and most of kids they talked to enjoyed it.
