Yeah, I saw a villain... and I saw Dr. Manhattan turn him, the person who would see the world consumed by nuclear conflagration, into a red splotch, as he deserved.
 
Just got back from it.

The movie was neither good nor bad. It was too long and yet not long enough.

Thumbs up for the boobz (that chick is hot) and the fight scenes-which were absolutely brutal. Any one of those heroes fighting skills would make Batman sit in a corner and cry.

Blah to the copious amounts of wiggly CGI manrod (it being blue reminded me of Max Rebo from Star Wars lol) and the overall choppy feel of the movie.

Probably best left as a book.
 
No villain, far as I'm concerned. But sure, if you look at things in terms of who violated the most personal islands against their inalienable rights ;b

Just came back from an IMAX showing in SF, and i gotta say that i really enjoyed the movie. The theater was packed and i can tell most of the people there were fans. I liked a few of the changes made for movie,
such as Rorschach killing the child murder with the butcher knife and the midget's henchmen cutting off the fat guys arms (both made more sense than what happened in the comic).
. Slow-mo didn't really bug me until the scene where they save the people from the burning building.

The only thing that bothered me was the funeral scene. Flashback, after flashback, after flashback. I realize thats what it was like in the GN, but it seemed a little clustered together.

Overall, i'd give it an 8.5. It was much better than expected. Can't wait to see the director's cut. I could tell from watching it that they cut a bunch of material out (Hollis Mason, etc).

I think it was better illustrated in the GN, but he gradually removed his clothes as he became more and more detached from humanity. His nudity is to represent how his character was "above" clothing (save for that TV interview).

Awesome movie. Just, awesome... exceeded my (fairly hyped) expectations. The only two issues I had were with the choice of song for the Vietnam part of the film (Flight of the Valkyries, just don't like it), and the speech on mars about
miracles and than the zoom out to show that they're inside a smiley face. Just felt out of place and kinda cheesy.
Outside of that, everything was amazing, all the changes I felt were done well and I'll be seeing it again for sure.

The IMAX showings i went to were all sold out. Also with a couple regular screenings. I'd try to buy them early.

IMAX was almost full when we got there.........35 minutes early.
 
I'm a fan of the graphic novel and enjoyed the movie. I can see why some Watchmen diehards hate this film, as a lot of stuff was unnecessarily changed. Since it was a movie, they really couldn't add all the little details, quotes, and conversations that helped shape the characters when compared to the comic. But I think the film did a good enough job developing them. The symbolism was there, and the film did what a Watchmen film should do.

PROS:

The midget from Seinfeld.

Silk Spectre NAKED AMIRITE GUYZ

It was cool to see the retro Minutemen uniforms on the big screen.

Rorsharch's voice worked surprisingly well.

Good performances by everyone, although Silk Spectre was obviously the weakest (made up for it with the nudity though)

That dude totally got grease fried to death

CONS/WTF:

Hooded Justice sounds like THAT? I didn't imagine his voice like that at all. Also they took out the, "Get up. And for god’s sake, cover yourself." line.

Instead of inferring The Comedian's actions thus keeping him mysterious, they showed too much. In the comic, he simply alludes to killing Kennedy, but in the movie it blatantly shows it. At least they kept the Woodward and Bernstein line in.

Manhattan should've said "Nothing ever changes." like in the comic. That was one of the best and most ominous lines in the story.

What was up with Nite Owl's uniform when he was in Antarctica. It reminded me of those strange superhero toys when I was a kid like Arctic Batman or Deep Sea Spider-Man.

I was looking forward to seeing the alien on the big screen, but he was cut out.

They didn't explain Ozy's cat. In the comic he notes that he was genetically engineered (thus alluding to the future alien incident), but in the movie he just sort of has it without any explanation. Also, instead of popping up throughout the film, he just cameos at the end.

There was a STRONG hint towards that fact. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see that in the graphic novel, but I was watching the motion comic because I was short on time.

sex scene was a little excessive although Jupiter is very hot so I'm conflicted

This movie is awesome overall although Nixon could have been better. Should have just gotten Langella :lol

Are you surprised? IMAX premiere of a huge movie? You have to show up around the beginning of the screening BEFORE yours or even start lining up as the other people go in if you want to be first. If you just want a decent sit, ~90 minutes.

I didn't expect such a crowd for this type of movie at 3:30.
 
Just got back from seeing it in Imax. I really enjoyed the movie, thought it was great overall. Didn't like the ending at all.
Dr. Manhattan makes no sense as a uniting threat. What good would it do if the world united against him? He could destroy all of humanity in the blink of an eye, united or not. No chance of winning = no reason to unite. On top of that, even if by some miracle every country pulled together for a while, Dr. Manhattan is in some random galaxy now, and without an active threat there'd be nothing to maintain cohesion. Everything would see that there was no longer a threat, and things would decay back to the way they were to begin with. I mean, it's not that I'm inherently against making changes from the book, and I could maybe see why they wouldn't want to use the book's ending. But if you're going to change the ending, at least change it to something that makes sense.

Anyway, that was my only significant complaint with the movie. Loved it other than that.

That does make sense.
A foe like Dr. Manhattan is so strong that the entire earth must band together even if they know he's impossibly strong because that's human nature: to have hope and persevere; band against the unknown.

The stuff I didn't like about the ending is the
fight sequence (I liked the original more), and Nite Owl's strange outrage. I don't remember that happening. They changed the way Ozy is left, there's a significantly different feel.


I also didn't like
Rorschach's first murder, the fire is much more....I don't know the word, but it's much better than brutal cleaver murder

I said it before and i'll say it again,
it made it seem as rorscharch lost his cool way too easily. he was very calculated in the way he killed him in the comic, not so at all in the movie.
 
Thumbs UP in my book.

The changes were understandable, and didn't ruin anything about the intent of the characters. Loved Rorschach, Comedian, Jon, and strangely enough, Adrian.

BRAVO for not using "movie" rules. I can see non-book fans being really weirded out by the pace of it all, but I loved it.

The only change that I didn't like was Rorschach getting his mask back before Dan and Laurie saw his face.

Nothing about this movie ruined the book, and I couldn't imagine Hollywood getting closer than this. Through all the slow-mo, it was a very enjoyable ride, and I can't wait to see it fully extended (insert Manhattan penis joke here).

Agreed. It almost felt like a cop out. Like if all of a sudden he started using guns. He's far more resourceful/creative than that.

Imagine how awkward it would be without the music?

The song seemed like a joke because
it kept repeating hallelujah and Dan's impotence was not a punchline in the original as it seemed to be in the movie. The sex scene itself is a little too long.
 
Everyone (including the people I saw the film with) seems to have focused in on the cgi waggle stick but honestly I never noticed it at all during the entire film, I guess I was too busy staring at the cgi washboard instead of the crotch area, not sure if that makes me more or less secure of my sexuality.

No one knows where Manhattan is.. and Ozzy still has his Manhattan machine so he could scare people periodically with it if need be.

Of course, Rorschach probably f'ed it up anyway.
 
The more I think about the movie, the more I think I liked it. I definitely need to see it again.

Also crazy amounts of immaturity at the IMAX where I saw it. Everytime Dr. M's dick was on screen at least half the people in there did retarded redneck "hurr hurr hurr" laughs. It's like holy shit, grow the fuck up.
