i think "now doctor i have a question for you: WHAT DO YOU SEE?" is my favorite line of the movie and i dont think that was even in the comic. did hayter write this? he's the man.

I think I'd have to go with (I'm probably butchering the quote), "You guys have it all wrong, I'm not in here with you, you're in here with me!"

Was pretty badass IMO

oh yeah that's definitely a fan favorite. i love that one too.

edit: ok all finished up, some quick thoughts. i think i'm just not a comic book guy so i was able to appreciate alan more's awesome writing, and symbolism a lot more in the movie version. all the right points were focused on, and a lot of what i thought was filler in comic got cut out, which was nice. the Manhattan deterrent wasn't as awesomely outrageous as the giant squid but it was more believable.

the close out was awesome, very dark knight-ish.

Yes, that's not in the graphic novel. And I HATE that line. That Doctor has a much more fleshed out storyline in the graphic novel, and it really makes you see the effect that Rorschach has on him, without even being mean. He's just telling him his life story, and it has a profound effect on the Dr, and changes the way he perceives people. Instead, that scene was thrown in to make the Dr. just look like a coward or a character who is "against" Rorschach.

it's not like they could of fleshed out the doctor in an already 3 hour movie though. so they made him a different character to which an awesome line could be delivered.

besides the doctor arc was probably the slowest part in the novel and the movie was already criticized for being slow if i recall.

and the doctor was out to make a name for himself by curing Rorsch. early in the novel. So the character is the same, he just doesn't grow like he did in the comic.

Rorschach's execution of the midget dude is also much better in the movie imo.

I also liked him basically breaking himself out already (complete with suit) by the time Nite Owl and SS2 show up.

The doctor part was one of the many things that I liked about the graphic novel far, far more than the film. The film spent a lot of time glorifying people who are total shitbags (Rorschach and the Comedian), and was really hamfisted about a lot of the parts of the story which definitely needed a more delicate touch (the way the
scene on Mars plays out, in the film, felt like it was focused too much on the actual act of the Comedian attempting to rape Silk Spectre, and not all the other pieces around it
for example).

I don't know. The film paled in comparison to the GN to me. I am interested in the director's/ultimate cuts to see if they fixed it, but I don't think I'm interested enough to fork out $30 for a BluRay.

You're right they couldn't have put the arc in the movie, but they didn't have to put that line in. Because it was fucking stupid.

This mode does what I've wished director's commentaries had been able to do for a long time now... freeze the movie at a certain point and talk about a section in detail as warranted. Up until now the pace of the commentary has always been shackled to the pace of the movie as you generally want to be talking/hearing about what's on screen at that moment. Now it's finally possible to change the pace of the movie to fit the commentary - LONG LIVE BLU-RAY!

Is the videogame still being included on the Blu-ray as per rumours a while back, or did that turn out to be false, because I've seen/heard nothing about it since the initial announcement?

I feel this is a movie I would certainly enjoy more at home than theatre. I was annoyed to hell by a friend of mine who kept asking me "why the hell is penguin the president?" :lol

I'll be grabbing the blu-ray. I think everything uptill manhattan leaving for Mars was interesting, with Manhattan's flashback sequence being the high point of the film. It is after that the movie loses momentum completely.

I just watched this movie, never read the comic etc and this shit was amazing. People need to quit fucking complain over petty shit, overall the movie was brilliant. I can't even find any flaws, I wish it was longer to give us more insight into the background of some characters though.

Hollis Mason deleted scene: http://www.latinoreview.com/news/watchmen-director-s-cut-deleted-scene-7371

Everything precluding the attack makes me understand why it was cut, but the scene of his attack itself was beautifully shot.

That was fantastic. :D Those quick flashback shots were amazing.

The Dark Knight sort of did something like that, but this approach seems more natural. Would you be up for doing a video/audio commentary track like that when Eli comes out on BD?

So is that Hollis Mason scene in the director's cut of the movie or is it just in a separate feature as a "deleted scene?" If the former, what's the difference between the director's cut and the theatrical cut?

So I just looked at a poster for this movie yesterday and Doc Manhattan has no peins? Y not >:(

I've read the book (finished veerry recently), but have seen no trailers for it yet. Not liking the negativity, but will probably rent next week.

Directors cut seems good and all but I'm holding out for the "Ultimate edition: full on extra blue cock"

Its still funny to believe that it was someone's job to animate it. Someones livelihood depending on carefully rendering a human penis.

Few years down the road when you have to get rid of her, I'm sure you'll have the most badass moment of your life :lol

Oh and concerning the BD-live chat, I have WAYYYY too many questions!

The 3 questions I asked are:

1. My question is about the amazing opening montage (the first 5 seconds to be exact). Is it just me or is it a massive homage to Batman (including Batman posters and the folks exiting the theater who look like Mr. and Mrs. Wayne with Alfred watching over as Nite Owl punch the "killer" of Batman's parents)? Do you think Batman exists in Watchmen universe? If so, in what shape and form?

2.
Why frame Dr. Manhattan? Doesn't this make United States the root of all evil since they were the ones who gave birth to "Dr. Manhattan"?

3. Why call it "THE WATCHMEN"? Better yet, why were crimebusters renamed to "The Watchmen"?

The book explains this. The Crimebuster's break up and when The Watchmen are formed, not everyone from the original Crimebuster's return, so they give they're group a new name.

No. There is no "The Watchmen" in the book. It's Minuteman and Crimebusters. They renamed Crimebusters to "The Watchmen" for the movie for some unknown fucking reason.

It's not unknown, Snyder said there were too many names already running around and he didn't want to confuse people, hence just calling the team "the Watchmen."

Pretty much what blader said.

One of my friends who had never read the comic said "who is Osterman" when Doc Manhattan breaks through the glass to have at Viedt and says "It didn't kill Osterman, you think it would kill me?"

In fact I'd say for all the flaws, 2/3s of the movie works but a lot of people were lost towards the final third.

Of course Batman doesn't exist, his parents never got killed.
