BB has a deal (at least on the website) to get Black Freighter for $5 with any Watchmen movie version (including DC). I'm just going to get that I think. That's 28 for everything. I'll jsut put BF on my laptop and watch a randomly pause the director's cut to watch a sceneRubxQub said:So annoying that the Ultimate Edition is coming out in December.

It actually IS "Snyder-approved" and is not some hack job like your hare brained baseless assumption.Valkyr Junkie said:Because the Ultimate edition isn't going to be Snyder-approved since it's his film with someone else's spliced into it.

I'd stop insulting my mother immediately if I were you. :lolValkyr Junkie said:Jesus, dude, what crawled up your ass? When did I call it a hackjob? I'm just recalling what someone else on AVS said. However, I did search and I found a articles from last month stating that Snyder's preferred cut of the movie is the Director's Cut (duh) that does not have the Black Freighter inserted into it. So take that as you will, but you'll probably assume I just insulted your mother or something..........
How About No said:Just saw the back of the DVD case today at my store. Very liberal use of the phrase "super heroes" on the description.
"In a world of super heroes a super hero is killed and the super heroes band together to find who killed the super hero and they find a plot to destroy the world and end all super heroes super heroes super heroes!"
Exaggerating, but they say "Super hero" at least once every sentence :lol

Someones killing our super heroes. The year is 1985 and super heroes have banded together to respond to the murder of one of their own. They soon uncover a sinister plot that puts all of humanity in grave danger. The super heroes fight to stop the impending doom only to find themselves a target for annihilation. But, if our super heroes are gone, who will save us?

Hey, jsut a heads up. It turns out that the info from that BR review site is dead wrong. I asked to chekc the packaging of the complete experience and despite what the site says, the extras of the "missing" disc are on the same disc as the games, just not on the movie disc. I went ahead and bough it and watched it all. It has the making of, the "real life" vigilantes bit, the bit on the machines and the music video. It has everything that the DC cut has except the third disc with the theatrical cut. WOOO I win again! The games are par, but I'm glad I got everything I wanted.polyh3dron said:I'd stop insulting my mother immediately if I were you. :lol
And just wait until the Ultimate Edition comes out, Zack will probably change his mind as to which cut he prefers...

I'm very impressed. I am usually very bored by these types of movies and have a very empty feeling after watching most of them. To put it simply, this is definitely a movie I will be thinking about for awhile. It wasn't confusing at all for me and by the end I felt as though I had a decent grasps of all the main characters. Also, this is the first movie that I believe is going to get me interested in checking out the comic/graphic novel (These films usually tend to push me away from the source material).
If I had known that this was something that was trying to be a bit cerebral, I would have seen it in theaters.
Only two plot specific things that bothered me really. I actually didn't like seeing Nixon in the film....I understand how important his character is but I feel as though things would have worked out okay had he just been mentioned in passing and not actually seen. I "bought" the whole revisionist history thing, but actually seeing a guy that doesn't really look like Nixon, playing Nixon, made it a bit hard to buy. Really, all the scenes with the government felt like dead weight to me. Maybe these are scenes that were prolonged in the DC? I also didn't like the midget. That whole thing felt out of place. AfterI got it that he was a target in prison, and didn't really need this crew showing up to get the point across. I'm guessing they were used to showthe interview with the psychiatrist, and the scene where he burned the guy with the hot grease,?how Rorsach gets out his cell
Can't believe there was so much talk about the penis. It was hardly even noticeable for me. I'm not gonna lie, the first time he is naked on screen..of course I was looking....:lol After that though, it just wasn't something that was very note worthy to me. I think that you would have to really be trying to get offended/grossed out/turned on to care about the nudity in this film.
The song choices...hit or miss for me. I tend to dislike popular songs in movies in general so I'm sorta biased I guess. I thought the song in the very first sceneworked well, probably my favorite use of music in the film. The only song that really made me cringe was Hendrix AAtW...that just really stood out as a bit too much for me for some reason, especially where it was used at the end of the film like that. I understand that WATCHtower seems like a perfect choice but it just felt jarring to me.(Where the Comedian is killed)

exarkun said:Dammit, I was all ready to buy the Directors Cut and then all this talk about the Ultimate Edition happened. I have the Ultimate Blu-ray edition of Blade Runner (which I would liken to this because it is also 5 discs and has 4 versions of the film on it). Honestly I've only watched the different stuff on those discs maybe once and even then I know I haven't seen all the bonus stuff.
So as a guy who just cares about the movie with all of the extra scenes included, a director's commentary, and some cool bonus stuff is it ok to just go with the Director's edition?
Truant said:There is some extra live action footage in the Ultimate Edition, though. All the connecting scenes that flow into TBF. Just stuff at the news stand, though. Not any FX shots or anything like that.
no.lakesideflight said:I just rented the movie, read the graphic novel twice, and man the movie was disappointing. I was expecting it to have to leave out a lot of stuff, but so much of the movie was just terrible. The cheesy music and sound effects, crappy extra dialogue, and some of the acting was just awful and awkward in a lot of places, especially the long sex scene. The movie jumps around so much I don't know how anyone who hasn't read the graphic novel beforehand could follow it. I was hoping the movie would be better, spiderman and Harry Potter ended out being pretty good movies and I hoped this one would be too. Anyone else feel this way?
Ignatz Mouse said:I had an epiphany about the music--
Yes, it's the same tunes referenced in the book-- but since the book is mute, Moore chose songs that were very familiar to people so they could hear them in their head. In the movie, that just makes it seem heavy-handed.
shagg_187 said:From the sound of it, here's how it'll go:
1. Watchmen Director's Cut
2. Special Features (currently present in Director's Cut)
3. Watchmen Director's Cut + The Black Freighter
4. Special Features II (Should include The Black Freighter on it's own, Holis Mason's under the hood, some artwork provided in Watchmen Portraits book, all the footage currently present in BDLive and more).
5. Watchmen Motion Comic
As of now, I own EVERYTHING Watchmen related that I mentioned above in that 5-disc set so I don't know if I'll double-dip. I'll buy Ultimate Edition when it releases individually i.e. Watchmen + Black Freighter.
You will seriously not miss out on anything if you go with the Director's Cut and don't care about other stuff. You can watch The Black Freighter on it's own if you want to since it doesn't help in driving the story. It's just a bonus addition for graphic novel fans.

There's your problem. For better or worse, this movie was made as more of a fanservice to those who have read Watchmen, or have at least heard of it before. I know a lot of people who didn't get the movie when they first saw it in theaters, but read the graphic novel after and most of it clicked with them.Medalion said:Rorshach and Dr Manhattan are the coolest characters, the rest of the movie was boring when it didn't revolve around them. I am not familiar AT ALL with Watchmen lore, never heard of em till this movie came out and I only just saw it on blu-ray just earlier today.
Really? Fuck. I would have bought that version then. God dammit.BobTheFork said:Hey, jsut a heads up. It turns out that the info from that BR review site is dead wrong. polyh3dron said:I just realized that there was a scene missing from the Director's Cut that was in the theatrical version... It's a flashback with the Comedian at a party that Laurie was at too talking with some people and saying something like "Just don't ask me where I was when JFK got shot".
polyh3dron said:And yeah, the penis content has been GREATLY exaggerated by the haters. Blade Runner has its haters just like this movie does.
