Roy (our boy) & Ryu confirmed for Smash Bros

I am curious if there's a Six Degrees of Ryu now.

Now that he's in Smash, it should be fairly easy.

1. Scorpion
2. Kratos (Mortal Kombat IX)
3. Sophitia (Soul Calibur Broken Destiny)
4. Ayane (Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate)
5. Samus (Dead or Alive Dimensions)
6. Ryu (Super Smash Bros)

Not sure if the Samus inclusion is cheating though since she was just a background cameo.

just saw the twitch gameplay videos. good to see that Roy looks Falco-fied, in that he's not just another Marth/Lucina.

An in-depth post about the changes would be nice, and would probaly encourage more people to spend $4-$5 on Roy as an aside.

Falco's changes in Brawl were simply remarkable. (And then they nerfed him a bit in Smash 4, lol). Only real blemish was LANDMASTER again instead of an Arwing-related Final Smash. :/

aw, they shrunk dream land! still a great stage addition, just wish it kept its proportions.

anyway, so, i understand how they datamined videos and such. but how is someone actually playing them?

Wow, seriously? You'd think shorter range = more power. Ah well, I still appreciate the effort Sakurai put in to make Roy less clone-y, especially since I preferred him over Marth back when I was a kid playing Melee.

....but I guess if Marth/Lucina miss, they pretty much fly off the stage, so I guess less risk?

Did you know that If you missed then you could stop yourself by press B again, right?

Any Smash and Street Fighter fans?

I'm both.

But it seems we're a rare bunch given the commentary about QC motions lol.

Both here, and love it! I'm so thrilled to do FADC, Input, etc. :D

No wolf? :'(

Keep believing then you should get one.

It's simpler than that.

1. Scorpion
2. Kratos
3. Sophitia
4. Link (Soul Calibur 2)
5. Ryu

This is actually good for Smash 4's meta. Since gimps and edgeguarding aren't as prominent and strong as in 64/Melee, it would've been too large of a stage to be neutral. Kills would've taken longer than usual.

I'm surprised at the amount of any Melee Kirby stage and music love here. Easily the most boring stages in Melee and terrible music (one that highlights the problem with Melee's instruments so easily).

Callin' it

Tomorrow reveals/displays:

Ryu
Roy
Lucas
Chorus Kids
Inkling

16th:

Nintendo X Capcom
Fire Emblem 6 VC
Mother 3 VC
Rhythm Heaven + Localization
Splatoon 3DS

I was really hoping Chorus Kids would be there, but we are likely going to have to wait longer. Hopefully we get Wolf on the 16th. No way Inklings are getting in as DLC this time around.

Agree with the 3 localizations. Highly doubt Nintendo x capcom.....and splatoon 3ds is far too early.

All the past Melee and 64 stages in Smash 4 are smaller than the games they originally appeared in. The same issue happened in Brawl. I'm not sure why; it might have something to do with the character models being larger than in Melee and 64?

From the in-game tips:

Move / Tip

Hadoken

A projectile from a world-class fighting game. Hold down the button to vary how fast it travels. It’ll disappear after a set distance.

Hadoken

Input the commands from the original series to increase the Hadoken’s power. Use it in midair to make Ryu glide slightly.

Hadoken

Quickly input down, down-forward, forward for 1.25x power. You might have to practice a bit to really figure out howtodo a Hadoken.

Hadoken

Input back, down-back, down, down-forward, forward to unleash a fiery Shakunetsu Hadoken that can deal multiple hits.

Shoryuken

When you enter the original commands, Ryu is momentarily invincible, the move is stronger and looks different…and his shout even changes!

Shoryuken

Input the commands from the original series to become invincible until the move is complete. The move needs no recovery time after landing.

Shoryuken

Input forward, down, down-forward for 1.2x attack power. Think you can pull it off? SURE YOU CAN!

Tatsumaki Senpukyaku

Ryu will float up slightly when using this move after a jump, making this spinning side kick great for recovering.

Tatsumaki Senpukyaku

Input the commands from the original series to power up the attack. One thing to remember: you can’t use it repeatedly in midair.

Tatsumaki Senpukyaku

Enter down, down-back, back for 1.16x power. Increasing the strength also increases the move’s speed and travel distance.

Focus Attack

Ryu will hold his stance until you release the button or a certain amount of time has passed. Then he’ll unleash the punch.

Focus Attack

By turning the opposite way the moment Ryu punches, he will strike in that direction instead.

Focus Attack

Hitting an opponent with the fully charged version of this move will make them slowly crumple. Time for a follow-up attack!

Focus Attack

You can cancel this move by pressing left or right twice quickly, either while charging or right after the punch connects.

Focus Attack

Ryu can take one hit while readying for this move. This is true until right before he attacks, even when charging the move to maximum power.

Side Smash Attack

Ryu steps forward and unleashes his Joudan Sokutogeri. The tip of his foot is the strongest part, but it won’t hit a small crouching enemy.

Strong Down Attack (Strong)

You might have seen this kick in the original games. Just like in those, you can cancel the move after striking by going straight into a special.

Strong Down Attack (Strong)

Hold down the attack button while crouching to use this move. You can cancel it into a special even if the foe is shielding, but only if you hit.

Strong Down Attack (Weak)

Use this attack by crouching and tapping the attack button. If you hit a downed opponent with it, you’ll knock them back to their feet.

Strong Side Attack (Strong)

Keep up the pressure on a guarding enemy with Ryu’s Collarbone Breaker, a double hit that’s good for shield breaking.

Up Air Attack

This uppercut hits the enemy twice and has a deceptively large range. It’s fairly easy to hit enemies directly over you.

Front Air Attack

Hitting an enemy with Ryu’s foot has higher launch power, while his upper leg is perfect for shield breaking. It’s a good move for combos.

Down Air Attack

This is the only attack in Ryu’s arsenal that has a meteor effect. If it hits, your victim will fly diagonally downward.

Upward Throw

This move kicks a grabbed opponent straight upward. As Ryu brings his leg back down, he’ll hit anyone else unlucky enough to be in the way.
He also has strong and weak normals depending on if you tap the button or hold it.

how am i supposed to react to this? this is just too much

Just change No. 4 and 5 with "returning Soul Calibur 2 character" and "Link", respectively. :V

BLEEERGH, beaten.

I'm really really impressed with Ryu's model and animations in Smash. Looks fantastic.

If MK8's DLC is anything to go by, it should cost considerably less than $20.

I don't think we should think about MK8 when it comes to SSB4 DLC becaude it doesn't wortk in the same way... But I do hope it's less than $20, much less. Like MK8 hahaha

Fountain of Dreams
Terrible music

Excuse me?

Maybe he's like me and never knew Fountain of Dreams picked up after the serene, instrumental prelude. I always finished the stage so quickly in 1P that I thought the whole song was slow, anticlimactic, and peaceful.

I didn't actually hear the whole song until I was trying to figure out why people liked it so much.

I seriously hope there's some kind of bundle for all the characters seeing as it seems all 3 are coming tomorrow. Like $12 for all 3 instead of $15.

Willing to bet it'll stay $5 per character, so for all 3 for both systems, it'd be $15. Not sure on Dream Land 64 costing money or not.

Any Dream Land 64 footage?

I'm surprised at the amount of any Melee Kirby stage and music love here. Easily the most boring stages in Melee and terrible music (one that highlights the problem with Melee's instruments so easily).

The love for certain Melee stages (Yoshi's Story, in particular) eludes me as well, but calling FOD music terrible is even more incomprehensible.

Fountain of Dreams + Terrible music = Wut.

Inconceivable...

Let's take this outside.

One other reason I dislike the idea is because doing quarter circle turns on a controller is awful.

Look homeage or not I still don't like the inclusion the input and think it is a terrible path to go down regardless if anybody agrees with me or not.

I'll hope for the best but expect the worst. I've said my peace on the manner so I'll take my leave of the thread.

...you have got to be fucking kidding me.

I am done. I am so fucking done.

LOL you can't be serious. The fact that you find qfc inputs a reason to complain kills me

What would be cooler is if they were free for like an extremely limited time(2 hours after the direct)

But I know that wont happen

Buy 2, get one free or for a discount.

....or own 3 DLC characters, get the fourth free.

Though yeah, would be amazing if something (maybe DL64 stage) was free for a limited time, like for a few days during E3.

Now that I think about it, I wonder what the chances are of a "season pass" similar to MK8 & Hyrule Warriors with 3 characters & 2 stages confirmed so far.

I think that a season pass it's the best deal for both parts, us and Nintendo.

I'm going to assume there's going to be a later retail SKU of smash that has all of the DLC on the disc

Looks alright to me. I'd rather they rebuild the past stages from the ground-up if they're getting too small to accommodate the fighters, but I understand they need to save time.

More than the size of the stage, it bothers how they shamelessly ported the N64 stage over.
The high quality character models simply clash in such a low res texture enviroment.

Why they didn't give the Mario Kart treatment to the retro stages? You're basically playing the same stage you did 10+ years ago but with new life in it. Better lightning, geometry, shadding and textures.

lolno, simply rip the textures from the original game and call it a day.

I like it how it is. :V

Okay, for real, why do people want the chorus kids from Rhythm Heaven? That's just a stupid idea for a character.

You serious? They're cute and the RH series in general has tons of creative characters and possible ideas for moves.

You're telling me you can't look at that video and imagine what kind of zany moves Chorus Kids or any other RH rep could be using?

But they didn't rip the textures, they rebuilt them. They just rebuilt them to look exactly the same.

You can say you'd rather have them rebuilt in modern graphics, but clearly they're aiming for an exact copy. That's not the same thing as ripping the textures.

People probably need to stop equating "I don't like this decision" to "This clearly required no work because I don't like it."

Holy wow, 84 pages? I'm happy to see our boy Roy is back and Ryu is really something. I knew he was likely coming but still didn't expect two Capcom characters in there. I do wish this didn't get leaked though. I mean, we got so close and yet it's a Nintendo leak no less. I wonder if this was all the Smash news we were gonna get.

I can't stand that stage. gameplay and visual wise it's trash

They take the "retro" line way too seriously lol
