RTTP: Deadly Premonition - The Best "Bad" Game Ever.

I bought this some years ago..Tried to play through it several times because of the small "hype" around it. It's so fucking terrible, that it's terrible. Absolutely no way I can play this junk for more than 3-4 hours without wanting to throw myself off of a roof. I will never get how people feel like this is even remotely good. But hey, that's why opinions are opinions 🤷‍♂️

Well, this is an aside at this point, but after starting over a new playthrough of Deadly Premonition 2 today, I think I can draw some conclusions about Swery's work environment, Zach. I'm convinced that he made both games on 1080p monitors that had VRR. Why did I make this conclusion, Zach? It's simple, really; when both games are played in handheld mode with boost enabled on the Switch 2, it feels like a nearly flawless 30fps experience. It's not perfect, Zach, but what in this world is?

Swery was probably confused about where all this talk of slowdown and stuttering was coming from. "Isn't everyone playing this with the same setup?" I'm sure he asked everyone in the office. Swery made an assumption.

It reminds me of the 1996 movie The Long Kiss Goodnight, starring Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson, Zach. Swery made an assumption, to which Samuel L. Jackson's character would have had a, shall we say, colorful response:

In short, playing this game in boost mode on the Switch 2 seems to be nothing short of transformative, Zach. Neither game, to this point, has felt as janky as previous incarnations have bore out. I might finally care enough to solve the case of Le Carre, Zach. I hope my skateboard doesn't let me down.

Funny story, SWERY recently said in an interview that DP2's release date was pushed earlier without his knowledge, he was still working on the game and he was called by the publisher out of the blue that today they're gonna put out a trailer in that day's Nintendo Direct with the release date and he had to get the game out by then.

He also said in the same interview that other than writing the scenario for the opening and intro videos for the Director's Cut, he had nothing to do with that version of the game.

It truly is a case where the publisher completely bypassed the creator. Kind of like what Konami did with Kojima but Swery didn't even have enough of a budget or time in the first place.

Ok. So i'm going in blind. I saw some meme pics and shorts years back but never got around trying it.

Started it up, creepy kids looking at a butchered lady, grandpa not giving two fucks (one for each lad) to cover their eyes, sleazy sax music, rain, cigarettes and meta talk about Tom and Jerry in 1 scene.

Count Me In Rick And Morty GIF

And for anyone interested - bumping the Switch clocks got me near constant 60fps in the forest. Hope it'll hold.

Shameless bump

Holy mother of performance drops! From 60 to ~25 driving around town. Went to stock clocks to compare and the fps went crazy from mid teens to 20 and random jumps to 40. Police station hovers around 45. What is wrong with this game? 🤣

But it really does feel like Twin Peaks: The Game. Love it!

The car is the absolute worst. There are no physics on this planet that compare. 😅
