RTTP: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

You would've preferred they sell the new characters as $5/char dlc instead?

It would have been a nice option in addition to a new release, heck I only use Frank West and he was supposed to be in the original version. Most of the new characters are bunk besides Vergil.

Two things that are Guardians-related as far as MvC goes.
  • I'm glad that Groot wasn't used in Rocket's moveset, as it leave the door open for a separate playable Groot if MvC4 happens.
  • After giving it some thought, couldn't Star-Lord replace Cable?

My team of She-Hulk/Magneto/Tron got nerfed heavily in the transition from Vanilla to Ultimate, but they're still somewhat usable... or they would be if I could learn to handle Zero May Cry. If I still had booty drop combos with She-Hulk, Tron's original assist, and the ability to launch three times with Tron, it wouldn't be too bad, but damn those were some painful losses to their toolsets. And I refuse to use Spencer in She-Hulk's place, despite him being better at everything she can do, so it's partly my fault.

If by bunk, you mean unappealing, opinions are opinions. If you mean bunk as in weak characters, this is pretty wrong :P

She-hulk was the victim of of being easy to play, and thus having tournament success early in vanilla, which led to her being nerfed for ultimate, despite the fact that the game had evolved to the point where She-hulk was borderline nonviable at the end of vanilla's short lifespan. Vanilla was going to boil down to point/invincible assist/phoenix sooner rather than later. Limiting invincible assists to lariat and severely nerfing it from how it was in vanilla was one of the best balancing decisions from vanilla -> ultimate
fuck ultimate lariat too though

I want to love this game, but it didn't help my baby girl Hsien-Ko one bit. The moment before release when someone picked Hsien-Ko on stream and Seth Killian said "That's not good", I was absolutely furious. Fuck you Capcom! Why didn't you fix her?! Just what did you expect her to do?

Oh well. Playable Amaterasu, Taskmaster and Phoenix Wright was nice I guess.
Hsien Ko needed so many buffs in ultimate, even in vanilla she was pretty much useless why even bother putting her in the game at all?

Abegen just won Manila Cup with Tron/Thor/She-hulk like a week ago. Unusable? Really?

I like abegen but we're on different levels so yeah unusable in my eyes when I just want to play with the characters I like instead finding a team composition to counter specific teams, setups, etc. and let's be real, abegen is like the only Tron user. Tron might not be hsien ko tier but she's pretty freaking low because she barely has any favorable matchups

She's not great- just saying that marvel rewards the grind and you can succeed with all but the lowest tier. Even with high tier, you could never play marvel with 3 characters you like- team synergy is too important.

Japanese players are outliers though. Those characters suck, but them Japanese players blow up the US with Rocket Raccoon and Thor.

Don't pull the 'Japanese players are unique snowflakes' card- come on now. There is nothing magical about Japan- every region that plays marvel seriously has people that play common strong teams and people that play bizarro teams and succeed.

At least your character wasn't blatantly nerfed of his one saving grace right after UMvC3 came out. *cries in corner*

Best damn fighting game to me of this and last generation (XB1/PS4 + X360/PS3). By far.

They put a ton of care into the game, it has the best voice acting + choices for voice actors I've played for a game. The fighting system, I love it.

I love it as is, no matter what others say, there really isn't much to be changed in this game. Any top player can be beaten by anyone in this game, there is no one king in this game. As pointed out earlier, not only has there never been a repeat EVO champion, but as a 3-character team game, the winning characters have all been various characters.

I love playing this game because I love all of the characters so much, I've made more teams over the years than I can remember. Watching top play can have so many hype moments and comebacks as well.

The only real glare on the game that had me REALLY have some resentment was due to Capcom themselves - MVC3 came out with the most laughable 8-player "lobby". Despite it being a thing for years, Capcom said it was impossible for the rest of the lobby to spectate the two players that were busy in a match. So the spectators had to watch the character life bars in the lobby room. Yeah.

...only for Capcom to do the "impossible" and fix it with an actual lobby with UMVC3. I actually waited out on buying UMVC3 at full price for that, got it on the cheap with the UMVC3 Bible as a package. I actually forgot about that until the OP reminded me about it.

Aside from that, best damn fighting game - thinking more about it, as much as I love Marvel 2, I actually love UMVC3 more, so it's my favorite fighting game period.

One of the most fun and frustrating experiences I've ever had with a game. I enjoy a match with a similar skill player, but those touch of death combos make you feel a certain type of way.
