This. Would be easier to swallow if he didn't claim we'd see gameplay at E3.

It has UE4 support and the Switch is proven to handle games on that engine well. People might as well get used to seeing future Japanese centric titles on the Switch as a primary platform because Switch will likely outpace PS4 in Japan as this point. Fanboyism doesn't trounce profit.

Dude be realistic. The Switch is a tiny ass handheld next to the massive PS4. Switch may have a powerful CPU but its GPU doesnt even compare to the other systems.

Snakepass isnt comparable to AAA blockbusters pushing consoles to the max.

Uh huh. Bomberman is 45 fps on Switch.

FFXV is like 45 fps on PS4 pro

How is ff7r going to run?
Huh...
Didn't you imagine that Bomberman might just not be properly optimised ?

The relation here makes no sense.

A past gen game runs at 60fps on a newer hardware...wow.
Maybe you should try to read the whole comment before you pointlessly answer.
It was about bomberman running at less than 60fps in story mode.

Cloud in Smash gives this some substance.

I'd be totally happy with a *well done* port of the original game with a new English translation, polished audio, and reworked battle graphics. It'd be a nice gesture to people who aren't into the real time action battle system of the remake.

If this is true, Squenix is aware that regardless of how much the West wants it on the PS4, a Switch version at the very least makes sense in the long run financially.

A PC version makes way more sense financially though. There hasn't been a numbered FF game on Nintendo platforms in years.

While I don't take this as confirmation by any means, I'm not so sure why people doubt this. Square Enix has already said they want their games playable anytime, anywhere. FF7r uses UE4 which ports to Switch fairly easily.

It most likely will happen... just a question of how long after the PS4 version.

Snake Pass is a very demanding game, actually. According to Digital Foundry at least.

You're not new here. :D

Um...doesn't Sony kind of have that locked up at this point or was there never a contract to make the game between Sony and SE?

Edit: It could happen, but Sony's got first rights at this point.

I'm skeptical about the remake (even though Switch can be extremely capable in the hands of the right devs — MK8 Deluxe looking better than most PS4 games and running at 1080p 60fps being one example).

However, the enhanced port of the PS1 original would be a perfect fit in many ways.

Isn't the remake using UE4 vs 15 using SE's proprietary engine? That alone would be a fairly significant difference

It is, another member just told me. Still, the scaling required would be significant I imagine. I would like to see a portable version but, if the combat is anything like 15's (action based, which we know it is) performance on the Switch would be really interesting to see.

I bet the "source" said FFVII is coming to Switch and assumed that meant the remake. If anything it'll be the remaster coming to Switch. That or the Switch version is going to be a huge downgrade. Just because UE4 can run on Switch doesn't mean all UE4 game can run properly on it. We've already seen multiplatform games on PS4/Switch where the Switch version is notably worse.

I don't think the idea itself is that far fetched. SE is pretty clearly a big Switch supporter and is (presumably) working on DQ XI Switch with UE4. But I doubt it would leak out already.

Seriously? Pretty sure rumors based on twitter aren't allowed here...

If I wanted it to be a GAF thread I would've made one myself. I'd only create that if I was 100% certain though.

Man this thread fucking backfired. When the source is a Tweet and said source comes to say, "why did you even make a thread about this on GAF...", you know you done messed up

Skimmed through the first couple pages but didn't see this:

Who is this guy and why should I give credence to what he says?

You don't seem to understand how games work. The physics in Snakepass are extremely demanding, and while the Switch can't push the same effects/polygons/etc than the PS4, depending on what the game is and its engine, it's not that hard to downport it at a decent resolution and framerate...

We'll see, even if I have both a PS4 and a NS, while I'd probably buy the PS4 version to have the best looking version, I'd love to see the meltdowns.

If true the game will probably get some downgrades(i mean the ps4 version too), one thing is what you can do with a ps4 only game, another is what you can do in a ps4 and switch multi.

Considering it's a timed PS4 exclusive i find it a bit weird that they would be able to show a different version.

I found a screenshot of it.
No way mate, Switch isn't remotely as powerful as PSX.
