Rumor: Final Fantasy XV Launches September 30

2017 will be even bigger for SE Japan if FFVIIR part 1, DQXI (huge in Japan), KHIII and Nier (if it gets delayed) all make it out that year.

It will be the biggest year of releases for SE Japan in a long time if not ever (in terms of AAA). Definitely bigger than any year last generation.
This.

Welcome back, SE!

What are the best selling Final Fantasy games btw?

FFVII -> FFX -> FFXIII ?
Pretty sure VIII has sold more than XIII. I may be wrong.

1. FFVII - 10 mil
2. FFVIII - 8.2 mil
3. FFXIII - 7 mil

I love that VIII sold so much (on one console!) on the back of VII's success.

It makes sense why VIII was for a long time considered a game with a "bad reception". Millions upon millions of people bought it as their first FF after VII and probably weren't prepared for the usual "every FF is nothing like the last one" shock. I think the dedicated FF fanbase actually hold it in good regard.

Wait what ? VIII outsold X ?

I believe it did.

Actually X might have been higher than I ranked it. It was looking at old data but it was in Greatest Hits forever, throughout the 2000s. It may have eventually outsold XIII at about 8 mil, coming up on VIII's ass.

Maybe the HD re-releases pushed it further. Not sure if those should count.

But yeah, VIII was a sales powerhouse.

I really hope SE knocks it out of the park with the marketing, I feel this game has the potential to be a huge seller. They should probably do a big partnership with Sony on the marketing to really blast it.

a chance to market something like this comes once in a lifetime. I'm sure nobody will be let down by the marketing.

As long as it comes out this year... If the release date is in September I fully expect a slight delay into November or something.

They won't release the PC version on the same day for sure. I don't even think they have got started with the PC version yet, but it will come out some day (sooner rather than later). Square needs the Steam money for such a costly project.

Yeah, exactly what I think. Well, I hope on March PC users will get at least a release date, no problem if we need to wait six months or so, but it would be nice knowing the game will release on PC too before a stealth release a la Dragon's Quest.

And your logic being? I've seen this a couple of times in thread and it's so random. Like predicting a delay for the sake of it without any reason.

It's Final Fantasy XV... of course its fanbase is traumatized into believing the game will be delayed ad infinitum.

I'm not even much of a Final Fantasy fan and I've been anticipating this sonuvabitch for the better part of a decade. I won't ask that it doesn't disappoint, as the wait and hype levels have kinda made that impossible for a lot of people, but please just be good!

... I was 15 when this game was announced! Holy shit...

Whatever our age then or our age now, reflecting on that passage of time should be terrifying for every one of us.

I was 21, now 31. Dear Lord.

Yeah, for the core demographic it's going to be between 25-50% of their life.

Good point! @_@

But even if I were 5 years old and was now 15, I'd feel weird about it.

Why does any piece of media take that long???

I think this matched my expectations after hearing about the release date reveal date (bleh!). Seemed like a 6 month marketing plan.

The immense wait has actually cooled my desire. Even though final fantasy defined my childhood in many ways, and I chose a ps3 over a 360 based on versus, I'll consider picking it up 6 to 12 months after release. That will hold true even if reviews unanimously claim it's the greatest game ever made.

Still, the earlier it comes out, the earlier I play it. Woo hoo square!

Why does any piece of media take that long???

There was once when I ordered Domino's online, the tracker thing went from prep to baking to QA and was stuck at QA for two hours. Called up the store, and the guy said "Look do you want your pizza to be good or not?"

I still don't think it'll hit Sept 30th if that is the date. I dunno. I just feel like I've waited so long for this that Sept 30th seems too soon. Then again I've been mostly not keeping super up to date on info about the game so maybe my idea of the game is still grander than what the game actually is and Sept 30th is a totally reasonable and realisable release date.

Like, I'm just expecting this huge, amazing world. I mean, I know I'll be there day one because I'm totally into a road trip style FF game and I really liked the demo but I just feel like the game won't live up to what I expect from a game 10 years in the making. Because even if development was restarted a bunch of times and things changed a lot so really, this FFXV hasn't been in development for 10 years, it still looks and feels like it and that is a lot to live up to.

I just hope that it's not another Duke Nukem Forever, where a game is in dev hell for so long and then comes out and isn't great.

Yeah but i'm sure that the long wait affected Domino's metacritic score in the end.

Or it could be another Resident Evil 4, where a game is in dev hell for so long and then comes out and is the greatest ;p

I think the analogue with DNF only works so far as both it and FFXV were in development for so long because their teams were intent on making the best possible game. That backfired on 3D Realms, because TakeTwo eventually took the project off them and rushed it out in an unfinished state. SE in ctonrast seem to be pretty patient with this release, even after Tabata replaced Nomura, so I don't expect them to release something they're not 100% confident in the quality of.

Think, when this game was announced I was just starting high-school . When we will get the confirmation of the release date I will have handed in my phd, and when it releases I will have defended said dissertation.

Anyways, FFXV will be epic. There is to much riding on this game for it not to succeeded. Tabata is also a very ambitious guy, he knows that this is his make it or break it product. If he fails at this cross-road, he might even be sinking the very support for AAA-game production in the eastern branch of SE.

If the game bombs there will be major consequences but there's still DQXI, FFVIIR and KHIII that have to come out before I think SE would abandon AAA game development on their eastern side.

Enjoy your cold pizza.

Agreed, but both of those titles are outsourced productions. Therefore, if SE was to drastically lower internal investment in R&D and shutter business division 2 they could still produce those titles.

Yooo, never thought about it, but FFXV really could be the RE4 of FF.

That's true but we don't know how much of FFVII is being outsourced exactly (and won't until they reveal the list of staff for it). They have said CyberConnect2 is assisting with development but not entirely developing it. Kitase is the producer and he is the head of business division 1 so it would be strange if a significant amount of business division 1 is not developing the game, but it's possible.

I don't think the game is going to bomb or don't do well enough (but I don't think it will come near XIII's numbers), but we really need a good marketing campaign. Yeah, I know they said that Uncovered would be the beginning of a strong marketing push, but they really need to bring it. We can't be getting these 0:30 gameplay teasers and powerpoint presentations anymore, I understand why they did that for ATR, but now it's time to be aggresive with marketing.

I would die for a Nomura edited trailer leading up to the game's release. His trailers always have some nonsensical narrative but they truly feel epic and invite you to play the game. I'd also like to see Sony involved with making this game succeed in Japan at least, as I think part of the future of the japanese AAA game industry sort of depends on this very release.

Good point, we really need to get a clarification of how the FF7-remake is being produced.

Now that is been brought up, we could be looking at a grim future if this doesnt do what their expectations are. I mean, maybe kh would still be released but I could see 7 re and dq11 getting the axe. I sincerely hope that isnt the case and that squenix has reasonable sales expectations for this.

Remote play FFXV on the flight over. /jk
It's either that or annoying to death whoever sits next to me lmao

Oh, really? For studying? Take a PS4 + Vita with you and Remote Play during the flight :D

It's not set in stone, but I may be ready to move there indefinitely. I need some stars to allign though xD

The flight is about 9 hours from here, or ENDLESS TORTURE IN HELL if the rumor is true lol

Lol, nah. No way. At most FFXVI could become downscaled a bit.

Ohhh, then I wish you best luck!

I was 16, now 26, and there's not a single day I don't watch one of the versusXIII trailer reminiscent of what happened in the past!

Surprised people are so hyped for this. I haven't bought a Final Fantasy in six years and I used to buy them on day one. After ten years and so many changes the likelihood this will be good is extremely slim.

That's a really narrow point of view.

Every good game goes through a magnitude of edits and changes. It's why they're so good. Uncharted 4 is going to be lauded as a masterpiece and it was completely scrapped and rebooted, just like FFXV.

I was 26, now 36. My god where did that time go
yeah.. 33 now. cannot believe i was in my early 20s when the game was announced. holy fucking shit.

Good point, will remember for future arguments :D
