The fact that we're all pissed that GT6 is releasing too early is kind of amusing.
Ha! I think it is weird it isn't announced though. Sony's own games tend to have a 1-1.5 year lead time from announcement to release.

That seems nuts.
I don't tell my boss what I won't do. I can strongly suggest why I don't want to and why I/we should do that, but at the end of the day he makes the final decisions.
GT is their baby. They had to make Motor Toon Grand Prix in order to prove to Sony that they could create a successful series. That was because at the time no one was making sim racers on consoles, so Sony wanted something that could compete with Mario Kart. That eventually allowed them to make GT. So why would they be ok with another company piggybacking off the brand that they created?
It's actually the reverse IMO.I bet this is all because of Driveclub.
This is what makes no sense to me. If GT6 is hitting PS3 how do we not know about it yet. I can't see something like GT having a surprise early release and announcing GT6 for PS3 alongside any PS4 announcements would bring the PS4 hype train to a screeching halt.Ha! They've released two GTs on each console so far... why would it be a mistake this time?
Is there anything due this year on PS3 with a 6 in title?

Of course, because they knew couldn't get GT out at PS4's launch they decided to make Driveclub IMO.How, tell me? If they showed GT6 on PS4,it will deff steal DriveClub's thunder.
Well yeah, I get that. But ultimately the decision is on Sony. They give PD a lot of power. Maybe rightfully so....maybe not.
I love GT5, it being one of my most played games this gen. But it had some problems, and when PD talked about the hardware limitations they faced with the PS3, I shrugged and thought to myself, "there's only so much they can do with a split pool of 512mb's of ram" Why would PD make GT6 on PS3 when they know they can't improve it?
Gran Turismo 6 is fine on PS3. Then they will make the game engine work on PS4 and use it's power to make it look better and release it as "GT6: Turbo HD" edition in 2014. Then GT7 will come out in 2016 as the definitive version.
Would make more sense to release GT6 on both PS3 and PS4 for holiday 2014.
I trust Amar more than Kagari and even he is confused.Kagari says one thing. John Harker says another. Perhaps both are right.

We reached out to Sony for comment and clarification. All a Sony rep was willing to tell us was the following: In 2010, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Polyphony Digital had commenced development for Gran Turismo 6. We look forward to sharing further details on this title in the near future. When pressed for more information beyond that, Sony refused to give us further comment.
Surprisingly enough Sony actually commented on this
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/27/is-gran-turismo-6-coming-to-ps3-this-year
As IGN goes on to say, dev kits for the PS4 probably weren't even in the hands of first party devs at that time.
I heard GT was going to be shown at the PS4 event and ... it ended up being Drive Club. I was also informed GT6 would be PS3 anyway. take that as you will.

Drive Club was originally going to be a GT title but Polyphony blocked it.
Ah balls.
Oh man, I don't like where this is going.![]()
Lucas gave away that Gran Turismo 6 production is in progress and we will be very surprised how accurate and well-reproduced are all the tracks. Also, the amount of them will be simply jawdropping.
Why not?GT6 on ps3?
no way in hell that is happening.
Why does it have anything to do with PS4? That won't be out until the end of the year the earliest, and probably next year for Europe, which is where Gran Turismo sells the most. Why does it make zero sense to release an incredibly popular game for your current console that has millions of users, before launching your next console? This makes ZERO sense, especially when the PS4 is not BC.
Makes sense for Sony: PS3 install base. This makes ZERO sense, especially when the PS4 is not BC.
I'll try and do some more digging but like amar, my source was very positive GT6 was a PS4 title. Maybe it's cross-gen? Dunno, but the thought pattern was that Sony didn't want GT to come out years after their next system launch this time.
If GT8 is great I'm fine with this.Watch GT6 have GT4 levels of content for PS3, and GT7 on PS4 be another gimped mess.

Which is ridiculous if true. Polyphony work for Sony, not the other way around. Sony owns the franchise they could (should) do what they please with the name.Drive Club was originally going to be a GT title but Polyphony blocked it.

Wouldn't surprise me though as Kaz has the keys to the castle over there. He's basically the president of Sony with how much freedom he has to do whatever he wants.
Sony need to grow some balls and crack the whip.
That seems nuts.

Yamauchi is pretty influential within SCE. There's no way he'll let anyone touch the GT brand.Polyphony work for Sony, not the other way around. Sony owns the franchise they could (should) do what they please with the name.
Interesting.PD has more involvement than you might think though. They helped develop the PS Vita and PS4 hardware for example.
