Rumor: Is Retro Studio teasing their presence at E3?

I just really hope their next game sells well.

Mainly because I'm still so depressed at how poor Tropical Freeze sold, considering it was a better game than the original DKCR which sold a ton, and it had David motherfucking Wise too :(

I really hope they have another Donkey Kong game in the works
if only for Fucking Donkey Kong Thread Returns (tm). Man, that thead was glorious.

I love how people always freak out about Retro posts like they mean something. People went hyper-detective mode when they were pumping up the reveal of the Retro Studios Jack-O-Lantern last Halloween, for instance.

...But between the phrase, the link, and the time of year, this has to mean something. Based on the "Dig" line, I'm going with a new, Retro-produced Drill Dozer.

I don't think it's another DKC. Wouldn't David Wise be making the soundtrack if they were making another one? Isn't he too busy on Yooka-Laylee? That could be a sign that it's not DKC.

But then again, they can still make one without Wise, so I dunno :/

Dig it?

It's Spelunk™. The dirt digging version of Splatoon. Whoever gets deeper wins. "Bury the competition in 2016!" Gopher kids.

Man, if it turns out to be a third Donkey Kong game the threads are going to be glorious.

C'mon Cranky, take it to the
dig
.

Holy crap. I guess I should start getting started on the hype train. Nothing I look forward to more at E3 than a new Retro announcement.

Doesn't matter. The last Metroid was like over 5 years ago. Its Metroids turn.

I'd like to see Metroid from another studio, to be honest. we've seen what Retro does with the series. Prime 4 would be a let down for me personally because of that. they'd have to go in a pretty different direction for me to get excited.

Here's what Retro said on the topic of possibly returning to Metroid back in early 2014:

Anyway, I'm skeptical about the chance of Retro announcing their next project at E3 next week. While they were said to have started working on it near the end of 2013, Nintendo said it is only going to cover E3 games coming out between the restof 2015 to early 2016, possibly as far as April. I doubt Retro's game will be out in the early 2016, let alone in the first half of the year. I think Next Level Games has a better chance of making an announcement.

Two things: They used the word "focus" in reference to 2015-early 2016. They doesn't mean they're exclusively featuring games from that time period. Further, what the heck does "early 2016" even mean? Is that just Q1? First half? That would also include games Nintendo intends to release early in the year but then delays to later in the year.

That said, I'm not expecting a Retro announcement. Seems like prime fodder for a Game Awards announcement, which, shockingly, seems like an event that Nintendo actually takes seriously. Or maybe it'll just suddenly appear in some random direct.

As much as I'd love another DKC by them (DKCTF is currently my favorite Wii U game by a longshot), I just don't see why they'd bother to release another one so soon when the last one bombed so hard. And it bombed hard not because it was inferior to the original, but because the vast majority of Wii U owners wanted something different. If they put out another 2D DKC game on Wii U, it will bomb just as hard, if not harder.

...Of course I'll still be first in line for it, because RETRO is GOD. But Metroid or something unexpected would probably sell better.

Where was DKCR2?
Tropical Freeze

I mean, I know it wasn't officially titled DKCR2, but that's basically what it was. It's the easiest abbreviation I can give a potential third DK game by Retro, since DKC3 exists already.

Maybe I could call it DKC6 or something, I dunno

I'll dig a proper DKCR3 if they put some effort in the visual department. TF looks fine but I'm expecting a DKC to DKC2DKQ level of jump.

Loved TF tho

Retro should really only be developing for NX at this point. Sigh.

Why? They are probably never working on just one game, so there's no need for all their resources to be focused on a console which hasn't been announced and could in all likelihood be two years away. If they are revealing something at e3, it's likely relatively close to release imo.

I kept telling people this. It makes sense. Don't get hung up on a previous release schedule.

Over time, staff gets added, comfort with development gets better, things get easier, etc.

And I'll gladly take a third DKC game.

DKC6.

Eeeh, while the prospects of Retro working already on their next gen hardware is tempting, it's not like there are no other teams in Nintendo which could work on NX, especially considering the high possibility of it sharing the lienup with the home console. It could be cross gen too, depending on the release date! I mean, let's see first if they'll show anything at all, then what they'll show and the infos about it.

Also, we need to know if we can customize Booker T as much as we want in this game.

I may be in the minority here, but I am incredibly hyped for any game from Retro, regardless of what it is.

Donkey Kong
Metroid
Star Tropics

Whatever.

For fun, I will guess that it is a 3D Donkey Kong Platformer.
