Kensuke Tanabe : Maybe the Donkey Kong series over time will also feature both 2D and 3D like as in the Super Mario series! The style of the next Donkey Kong Country title would also depend on the game design.

You guys up for a DKC 3D platformer ? I'd be okay with it, but I'd like Retro to take a break from DKC at least for 2 more projects.

Even DK64 was kinda the beginning of the end of that genre really. I welcome any new 3d platformers

A 3D DKC? Hell no!!! That would be like SM3DW but with DK instead of Mario. If they are doing a 3D DK, I'd much rather it be more like DK64 than DKC.

Why do so many people hate Retro's Donkey Kong Games? And want them to do the same things over and over? I'd actually like to play the next Metroid game since I cannot play FPS games.

I want either another DKC game (they've clearly shown more skill and technique in the 2D platform genre to rival EAD) or watch them to something different (either a new IP or revive a dead IP). I don't want another Prime because I actually want to be able to play the next Metroid game.

Because Retro is Nintendo's premiere western developer, one who's demonstrated an ability to deliver the kind of games that Nintendo traditionally has steered away from, so for Retro to continue deliver platforming experiences, something Nintendo has demonstrated to do exceptionally well in its sleep, is a waste of resources.

Could a new Metroid Prime live up to expectations?

Doesn't have to be a Prime game, but yes, I think it could meet expectations. Retro makes very solid games. There's no reason to believe that won't be the case for a new Metroid.

Again, I feel like the Prime narrative is closed. So whatever they come up with probably should be some other Metroid, either 5 or something else.

PlatinumGames on Mysterious Murasame Castle, Retro Studios on StarTropics. Life is good™.

Don't say anything, I know. ;___;

And in the process completely caused a new standard in 2D platorming games. I've yet to come accross a 2D game that stands up to Tropical Freeze. EAD better step up its game for the next 2D mario if it wants to compete. That's why I want Retro to continue making DKC titles. They clearly have a talent for it.

And even if they don't, I don't want Metroid: I can't play it edition. Or at least, not do another FPS Metroid if they get the series. I'm still waiting for a 3D metroid that can give me the speed I want.

I don't think so, no. The direction the team went in Corruption and Trilogy was all wrong. More linear progression, less exciting upgrades, and worse all around physics - Bomb jumping got super nerfed, cutting the area of effect of explosion and the bomb counter, and most objects in the game world aren't standable surfaces. And invisible walls! One added in the frigate is a literal invisible wall by the door in a closed room intended to prevent you from screw attacking to it.

They should make a 2d platformer or something else Nintendo of Japan excels at and doesn't need a western studio to make for them.

I hope it's Donkey Kong Country Returns 3, but that's certainly not what I'm expecting.

Anything from Retro is bound to be exceptional, so I won't complain about whatever they announce their next game is.

Trilogy was just a pack-in of all three games, it has no direction.

Holy shit. I just want Prime 4. Pretty please.

Pretty much the only game aside from Zelda U that I can imagine getting really into.

:(

Corruption was great and I think they nailed it with that game. The perfect mix of action and isolation. A Metroid game is not just a Metroid game if you get lost every 15 minutes.
And I think your complaints are REALLY minor.

Hold on. I'm emailing Retro right now to tell them that Tropical Freeze was in yiepekaiyei's top 3 games on Wii U, therefore they should definitely make a sequel.

for me and for many others on GAF and outside of it, no need to be cynical. And it is in fact better than any 2d platformer on the market.

Besides, they will do whatever the fuck they want, neither mine nor your opinion will matter. What will matter is that they received critical praise for Tropical Freeze.
