Need a Donkey/Cranky version of this.

If it's for the Wii U, it'll be another DK platformer. They'll re-use the engine and assets from the last one. Nintendo isn't going to pay for anything too costly for the anemic Wii U. Another DK will be cheap to make, so that's what it'll be.

"Retro is doing fucking Donkey Kong Country again" thread pls

I request that if Retro is revealing anything at E3 this year, the thread has a "Retro Studios working on fucking [title of game]" or "Retro Studios working on fucking [title of series sequel] again" thread naming theme.

I was mostly talking about the art style and everything in the screenshots haha

Yeah, but what I mean is that style has changed in the past 15 years too. ;) In 2000 people would have freaked out if a game would have looked like that. For that time the design was good or even great.

I think I'd actually be okay with that. Would be great to have Metroid or new IP, but if that's the worst case scenario, then I'd still be a happy camper.

If this is Donkey Kong I will throw a tantrum and then cry. AT least be an HD 60FPS Metroid Trilogy. PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEAAAAAAAAAASE!!!

Yeah a new Metroid would be cool, but I enjoyed DKC TF so much, that I would be content with a 3rd one.

We will get Mario Maker and Yoshi as 2D platformers, this is why I think it will be something 3D, Metroid is my guess.

Corruption was great and I think they nailed it with that game. The perfect mix of action and isolation. A Metroid game is not just a Metroid game if you get lost every 15 minutes.
And I think your complaints are REALLY minor.

Agreed. Corruption is my favorite of the Trilogy. Having selectable difficulty from the start was huge as I was off put by the difficulty of the 2nd one. I need to revisit it though since I bought the Trilogy on Wii U but haven't played it yet as Splatoon and Mario Galaxy 2 are getting my Wii U time currently.

If it's Donkey Kong.. disappointment will be through the roof for me.

Literally anything but Donkey Kong. Please. And I loved TF FWIW.

Very exciting GAF.. Metroid or bust!

Let's not forget this juicy quote from a Kotaku interview @ E3 2014...

“So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we’ll be able to share something about them.”

Is anyone really expecting an annoucment for a Retro game only 16 month after the the release of Tropical Freeze?

Also, I really don't see a Metroid game for the WiiU happening.

Corruption is also my fave of the Prime trilogy.

I wonder if there's anything that can bring more lulz than, "It's fucking Donkey Kong"

I secretly hope it's Mach Rider.

It has GOT to be a third DK game which would be fine with me. Isn't there a old quote that a gaf detective can bring up about them wanting to finish the trilogy and using more animal buddies? There is now this digging it quote and there was also that screen of wispy woods or something if you fully beat tropical freeze? At least all signs point to a final third game.

So it's basically one of these

1) Expansion/DLC for DKC TF, possibly including Kiddy Kong
2) DKCR 3
3) DKL 3 remake 3DS
4) New DK for 3DS (land= portable series)

right?

Well, three of these are minor projects so they wouldn't really rule out a big Wii U game (Metroid/new ip/other stuff) according to Miyamoto.
In the same interview, Miyamoto also stated that he felt Retro Studios are at the point where they can have multiple projects in development at once. Typically, the studio works on one major game at a time.

Or they're just trolling :p

Trilogy was just a pack-in of all three games, it has no direction.

Trilogy isn't a straight port. Most of the differences are stuff only sequence breakers are gonna care about, but there are a few other differences - Some enemy placement/fights and lore entries are different from the original NTSC releases'. Again, mostly stuff that most people won't care about. But it matters to me :(

The invisible wall I mentioned happens to be a change made from the original Corruption release to the Trilogy version. They're rather insistent that you solve the room's puzzle rather than just find your quickest way to the door, although I 100% admit that's probably the most extreme example.

Edit: Corruption the best, GAF? Hard disagree. It's an ok game, but it's easily the weakest of the 3. Not even a contest to me.

While TF came out in Feb, it was done by November. Nintendo held it so they wouldn't crowd the holiday with both that and SMW3D, and to have something else for early 2014. They've had a good 18+months, which I feel is long enough for them to show something.

Blast Corps was the first thing that came to mind to me for some reason xD Who actually owns that IP? I know Rare developed it on the N64 and Nintendo published it.

Pretty sure Rare owns the IP. It would make sense since it was their own original IP :P

Only 16 months? lol That's an eternity. Rare was pumping out multiple games a year on the N64. I want a least something from Retro every two years on the Wii U.

Don't get me wrong, DKC: TF is a great game. It's probably among the best 2D platformers ever released. The problem is, how could Retro improve upon it this console cycle? And there are too many 2D platformers on Wii U right now and no games like Metroid.

But if they were making a 3D Donkey Kong game I wouldn't have too much of a problem. I just want to see something other than a 2D platformer from Retro. And for those who loved DKC: TF, if another one is released so soon, that kinda devalues TF and takes attention away from how great it is.

DKCR:TF 3D?

Not sure how they could have moved this quickly on a completely new title unless Retro has enough people to split the team in half.

.

To the bolded, given Iwata's statements about a unified architecture going forward, and that the next console should be able to "absorb" the Wii U, and the Zelda delay....some big games like Metroid could end up getting cross platform releases ala Twilight Princess.

That's a way to have an great launch line up, and also throw Wii U owners who don't want to early adopt a bone to help soften the short Wii U life span (assuming a new console is out next fall or so).

Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't write off the Wii U getting another big game or two. Even if not for the reason above, they need to give fence sitters a reason to pick one up so they can at least sell through all the Wii U consoles they've manufactured.

The rumor was DKC TF was finished months before it actually shipped, so 1 1/2 years of development on their new title is more than ample time for it to be literally anything.

That said, I would be inmensly happy where the title to be another DKC.

According to Tanabe they wrapped things up by October 2013. In addition most of the team was most likely working on something else even before that I bet.
