Rumor: Is Retro Studio teasing their presence at E3?

That said, I would be inmensly happy where the title to be another DKC.

Yeah, but they've been sitting on their thumbs for a bit. And apparently it's been even longer than I thought, if this Tropical Freeze rumor's true (Which I can see; it was a holiday title delayed to sate a drought that would have left the system without any games at all between Holiday 2013 and Mario Kart 8 in June 2014).
 
See I don't get how everyone is like "oh dammit fucking DK again" when Tropical Freeze is like one of the best games ever created.

No remake.

New game. I just spent 20 hours on the VC version. Remake would infuriate me.

That said, with save states, it's the best 3D platformer ever. Without save states, it's a frustrating experience at times.

That's a way to have an great launch line up, and also throw Wii U owners who don't want to early adopt a bone to help soften the short Wii U life span (assuming a new console is out next fall or so).

Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't write off the Wii U getting another big game or two. Even if not for the reason above, they need to give fence sitters a reason to pick one up so they can at least sell through all the Wii U consoles they've manufactured.

Let's be honest here, people who stayed away from WiiU aren't going to magically flock to their successor console. The only people that will consider it are those that have a WiiU today and I for one am tired of paying for their short shortsightedness. This would be them throwing a bone, right into their supporters asses at best.
 
What is the context of that DK Land 3 image? It seems like just someone's blog post. How does this basically confirm DKCR3?

It happens to contain a commonplace phrase that is also in the tweet, ergo it is clearly a masterfully orchestrated meta-reference confirming that Retro Studios will expand dong once more
 
I refuse to get my hopes up for this or Last Guardian. My expectations will stay in check people!

Well....like seriously. Is that just a fan site? Is the whole reply by Nibel a joke? And are people jokingly replying with disappointment? I'm so confused.

I need it explained to me like I'm 6 years old.
 
Real talk, has Tropical Freeze even sold a million worldwide? I can't see Nintendo urging Retro to make a third installment just yet, not with the lukewarm sales.

Nintendo offered Retro a choice on whether to make Tropical Freeze or Metroid Prime 4 and they choose Tropical Freeze at the time. I'm guessing because DKCR was, by far, the best selling Retro game ever and that was good for the studio.

I have to think their next project was MP4. Miyamoto basically saying he wants Metroid Prime and 2D Metroid to happen is a big indicator, because when he says stuff like that it usually means it's been in the works for some time. Nobody is doing Metroid Prime for Nintendo but Retro.

I'm on this train of thought as well. I recall an old interview where Miyamoto said there were so many ideas that didn't make it to Galaxy...BAM, the sequel was announced and released within the year. I'm betting on Metroid.

Retro "choosing" to do Tropical Freeze next seems more like a PR response than Retro actually having the final say in what they worked on next.

For example, Next Level Games was developing a prototype for a Metroid title only to find out in a progress meeting that they were actually going to work on a new Luigi's Mansion. But they aren't going to come out and say they actually wanted to work on Metroid, are they?

Nintendo is boss, and they have the final say. If Miyamoto & company are wanting a new Metroid from Retro then that is when we are going to get it, not the other way around.

Thankfully, as you pointed out, it seems Miyamoto wants to continue the Prime series (in spirituality at least), and Retro is the obvious choose for that.

Very, very few "big" games operate on the two year cycle anymore. And Retro is a small studio. Rare was a massive, multi-team studio, and games were smaller and simpler back then. We'll be lucky to get a game from Retro by holiday 2016. I don't expect an announcement from them next week. If there is, I doubt it will be anything other than a teaser.

It's not really about hating Donkey Kong.
It's only that people really want another Metroid game from Retro.
I loved Tropical Freeze and I think it's an amazing game but I was extremely disappointed Retro's new game wasn't Metroid.

If you asked back then what game people wanted (still want) the most from them, the answer would be Metroid.
