Rumor: NX controller supports Wii-like motion control and force-feedback.

from OP said:
LPVG has learned that these controllers are designed to phase out the Wii Remote over time, featuring much of their same functionality. Players with existing Wii Remotes will be able to use them for some multi player titles, but not all releases.

If that doesn't make everyone panic about what this box is going to do, I don't know what will. Still worried about wiimote compatibility???? S.M.F.H.

The motion controllers aren't terribly surprising to me, but I am very intrigued by the "advanced haptics". The major issue with motion controls is the lack of feedback when, say, swinging a sword into a wall... if they've implemented some new haptics solution which makes that feel at least a bit more natural and realistic that would be very welcome.

The odd bit in the article is the part where they say you can use existing Wii Motion Plus controllers, which presumably don't have these new haptics. This would also imply that the new motion controllers haven't advanced the motion tech anymore than the Wii Motion Plus controllers which would be pretty disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised if that part of the rumor isn't accurate.

Edit: Oh they mention Wiimotes will be usable with SOME titles. I guess that's different then, but still kind of strange when they want to do a clean break from the Wii brand...

So once again we won't have all the standard buttons and sticks and pads of a regular controller? I can't see how they cram all these buttons onto 2 mini wiimotes.

It is pretty wholly unsurprising that there'd be motion controls. We already know that Zelda BotW has them (giant hammer puzzle) and it's going to be on NX. While it surely could have been adapted to standard controls, it would kind of miss the point of having fun golfing a huge physics object.

What? You control the hammer with buttons.

I'm all for remasters being developed and released in the final years of a console. I want nothing but new games and new experiences during the first few years of the NX.

Me, too. I would love to play the new Batman game with an updated remote and nunchuck. Same with Kingdom Hearts. On of that, I would like to see someone jump into new territory and try something we haven't thought of. Or perhaps we'll FINALLY get that lightsaber game we've been asking for since forever. There are lots of possibilities there and if the graphics are up to snuff, I think they'll be in good shape.

You can tap into a Wiimote with a bluetooth dongle and two megs of software. The fact that they're usable as controllers says nothing concerning to me, only if "motion control" becomes a software priority again. The WiiU barely used motion outside of what, Star Fox?

Well given Nintendo (and the way the game industry is now), motion controls are expected in some form for their next system. Although given some of the rumored information the way they are going about it could be better overall for the casuals and hardcore. Plus my Splatoon sequel needs that motion control function! Lol

...and the wait for the NX reveal persists.

Have you read the article? What do you think NX is when the controllers are attached?
I pray that Nintendo develops games that don't hinge on the waggle to be "fun". Sure, you could play those games in tablet mode, but if it's obvious that a game is designed for motion controls the experience may be subpar (which is still leaps and bounds better than the Wiimote experience was).

Aaand my interest's gone.

Pls no waggle. I'm going to have to get one for MonHun, so pls no waggle.
Since the two parts have to connect to the NX itself, it likely won't be mandatory. But games like Splatoon, where most preferred motion controls, pretty much need the functionality retained on the NX to not piss of the majority. And besides, it's not like past MH games on Nintendo systems forced you to use motion controls.

Ah yes, it all makes sense now.

Why do you guys reckon the NES mini controllers use the wiimote plugs? For backwards compatibility with consoles that no one plays anymore? No sir, it's because they are coming out with updated wiimotes for NX that also feature that extension plug. That way you can also use the controllers for NES VC on NX.

This rumour is 100% a lock.

To be honest I'm afraid you could be onto something

It says for only some titles, so I imagine they can be used in a pinch if you don't have another controller to use, but they'll be limited. As more people buy the new controllers, they'll stop supporting the remote and nunchuck. I'm fine with that if the new controllers have the same functionality as the remote and nunchuck setup. Kinda points at being an update of that controller, which is pretty awesome. I was hoping they'd do that with the Wii U instead of going with the Wiipad.

Interesting... Wonder if this also means they will continue IR control support in some games.

Man, I hope so. I wanted to pick up Splatoon, but I really hated using the Wiipad for aiming. Why they didn't allow for remote and nunchuck usage, I'll never know. Hopefully with Splatoon 2, they'll add in pointer aiming. I'll be there day one if they do.

Splatoon, Pikmin 3, & Nintendo Land say hi.

The Wii U gamepad, the Dual Shock 4, the Oculus Touch, the Vive controller, the Steam controller, and just about every phone in existence now offers both full motion controls and 'force feedback'.

This is probably the least surprising news of all time, the only controller without full motion control features being sold today is the XBone pad.

I sure hope so, because that's awesome.

Would also be neat if Nintendo allowed somehow the detachable controllers to be used both in a similar way to wiimote+nunchuk and to attach to form a standard controller for action games and stuff that plays better that way.

Splatoon has control that is damn near mouse and keyboard level and I would be heartbroken if motion controls were removed from it. Just sayin'.
Thank you.

Then how do you expect Splatoon or Pikmin to function on the NX (more so the former)? Some form of motion controls on the NX was inevitable.

I just assumed motion controls would be in, but it's good to have confirmation. Only controller without motion these days is XB1.

I'd be shocked if the two motion controllers aren't effectively just the two control halves of the Wii U GamePad, in which case they're already equipped for non-motion games.

The controllers are detachable so when they're plugged in they'll be a normal controller.
Absolutely nothing negative about this rumor, just new ways to play being added.
This will allow for two player multiplayer out of the box or very advanced motion controls for one person on top of allowing for normal controls.
There hasn't been waggle on anything for years, motion plus is 👌

I can't understand how people can't perceive this. They're already part of a "classic" controller by default.

Handheld market is Nintendo's biggest market currently, NX will play games well as a handheld, I'm pretty sure about that.

How can it be comfortable to hold and at the same time be attachable to a screen?

In my OPINION, I strongly doubt that it will be a hybrid system.

I'm not an insider obviously, I'm just very skeptical that something as complicated as a hybrid system would be released. It's just common sense. My prediction is that it'll be a traditional console, probably as OP says with motion controls. It's also right about time for Nintendo to release a new handheld. It'll probably have some ability to pair with the home console. That's all.

edited because calm down guys.

I gotta say, it actually surprises me that, at least on this thread, a lot of people are actually ok with motion controllers to be back.

It never truly went away. The 3DS and Wii U both had motion control built in. Smartphones have motion control. PS4 has it. VR actively requires it. The Xbox One is the odd thing out, and that originally shipped with Kinect.

It's almost like some people never played a Wii game past the launch lineup.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009), Donkey Kong Country Returns (2010), Skyward Sword (2011), and Nintendo Land (2012) all used "waggle" as the only control input method for certain actions.

NMSBWii - spin jump
DKCR - roll/ground pound
SS - knock stuck object off
Nintendo Land - dodging in Metroid Blast

Pikmin 3 might have used it, too, but I can't remember.

Shaking the remote for DKC and NSMB is sort of annoying, but nothing like Twilight Princess. Implying that Skyward Sword or the Zelda attaction in Nintendoland are anything like remote waggling in TP is you being obtuse.

...and the waggle of Twilight Princess' Wii sword gameplay makes a comeback in BotW!

Oh God please no.

Why do you ...honestly...even entertain this line of thought ?

It doesn't make any sense at all to expect it to, when TP HD didn't even offer Wii remote controls.

The force feedback functionality of the controller has been described by one source as “very similar to the Vive controller, in that it alters intensity, pulsing patterns and duration of vibration to mimic the sensation of a range of different movement types. It’s not just one vibration for all situations, there’s a notable difference between the hard abrupt feedback of a sword clash or the softer, longer thud of something like hitting a tennis ball.”

We have a Vive, and the second thing that really impressed me was how well it simulated the feel of the tension on the string when pulling back an arrow.

I can promise you, it's not a hybrid system.
