You mean where the game is made? In Europe.AstroLad said:thanks europe.

I understood what you meant, it doesn't make what you said any fairer.AstroLad said:obviously not referring to the gamemakers. to them i give a big earnest thanks. referring to the overly protective governments FTL if you need me to spell it out.

And epilepsy isn't a joke, if the game causes some to sieze up then it should be delayed.
So previous versions of Wipeout have caused epilepsy? Wouldn't we have heard if that was the case?AstroLad said:who said it was a joke. epileptics shouldn't play fucken wipeout end of story. no amount of watering down the game is going to make it epileptic friendly.

Okay, you're right there, that's a good point.AstroLad said:i don't think any versions of wipeout have caused epilepsy. as to whether it's caused seizures before, i'm pretty sure it comes with an epilepsy warning for a reason. i don't expect them to take smarties off the market because they may put diabetics into a coma. just seems totally misguided to me--all i'm sayin.
Zeouterlimits said:Okay, you're right there, that's a good point.
But surely then this version of Wipeout must be extra 'affecting' because there are plenty of crazily fast/graphically colourful out and they haven't been held back {if this story is even the full truth}.
People with epilepsy shouldn't be gaming. It's needlessly risky and playing vids is far from a necessity. It's like wearing clothes soaked in gasoline and lighting up a smoke. You might not explode, but why bother risking it?Zeouterlimits said:I understood what you meant, it doesn't make what you said any fairer.

There's no way for something to cause seizures via strobe effects in non-epileptics. The real risk is with non-diagnosed epileptics who may have never had a seizure before.kaching said:+1 for releasing the "unsafe" version. Stick a fat warning on it. I don't lack sympathy for epileptics but that shouldn't be any reason to prohibit non-epileptics from experiencing the game in its truest form.
Unless the game is having an effect on more than just people with epilepsy.
I hope they don't have to compromise the vision too badly.
Dante said:Saw that earlier, figured it had been posted, Not too surprising that it could cause seizures for some people.
They should put that on the box
"Wipeout HD so blisteringly fast it could damn near kill you"
greepoman said:Does it not bother anyone that the only hint of a source is in CVG's article is "CVG has been told"? Couldn't they at least have gone with a vague "An industry insider told us" or something? For all we know it could've been the same 16 yr old son who decided E3. I mean...he is ultimate proof right? Can't beat that.
I think you can take your time. If the game really is delayed for this reason, it's going to be a real pain in the ass to fix it.Poimandres said:Damn I love Wipeout. All of this talk has inspired me to get way back into Pulse.
I used to play 2097/XL relgiously... to this day I still believe I hold the world record for lap/race time on Vostok Island. Anyone want to take me up on the challenge?
I may need to buy a PS3 for this game. If this seizure problem is true, I feel pretty bad for the developers.
http://wipeoutzone.com/ has records for all WO games. I think someone from france has most records on the site.Poimandres said:Damn I love Wipeout. All of this talk has inspired me to get way back into Pulse.

Wow, did Russtic take a ban for this post? Will I get banned for laughing at it?Russtic said:Fighting off the seizure is part of the challenge.
Right. I was also thinking in terms of worse than normal motion sickness effects.Segata Sanshiro said:There's no way for something to cause seizures via strobe effects in non-epileptics. The real risk is with non-diagnosed epileptics who may have never had a seizure before.
you got your own god damn sticky, now quit crashing other threadsFightyF said:I hope the mods don't mind, but in every Wipeout thread I'd like to pimp G.A.M.E.'s next project, an unofficial custom soundtrack for Wipeout HD. The progress thread can be seen HERE. If posting this info is considered spamming (as I will try to do it once in every WO related thread) let me know and I'll stop, and leave the promotion to the official thread when G.A.M.E. 3 is released.

LJ11 said:Someone who still has XL, check and see if there is a warning on the box or during boot about seizures. I'm pretty certain XL warned about seizures, I would check my copy but it's in storage aka my parents garage.
However, one possible explanation for the silence is that the games blisteringly fast 60 frames a second refresh rate coupled with the strobing background scenery and constant bobbing of the craft is causing electrical disturbances in people suffering from epilepsy.
