I don't get it. People want to revert back to classic Halo MP? Has the multiplayer up until reach gotten so convoluted that people want to return to simpler stuff? Or are they going to keep all the multiplayer changes made thus far?
because Halo CE is only revered for its multiplayer.

I have a feeling a Halo remake is being made by Certain Affinity, who would be the perfect source for an outsourcing job. 343i is probably working on Halo 4 while having some staff to support on the CEmake. I'd bet on a live demo of the remake at E3 with a teaser reveal of Halo 4 right after.

Such a horrible cover though.

Well, the rumor from a few months back was that Saber Interactive was working on the remake.

I hope they keep the Reach power up shit away. It would just be Halo Reach 2 instead of a Halo 1 remake if they put power ups in.

I think the Saber rumor was debunked saying they wouldn't outsource such a project.

This issue is on sale since mid-march... if it really contained official infos on the Halo remake, it would have already been known. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/293633/blog/xbw-103-out-now/

Probably just rumors
Oh shit it has been out, well I guess this reveal can be put to rest.

I'm still expecting a remake of some sorts this year. Whether that be some XBLA HD update with achivements and online MP, Reach Campaign Expansion, a full-blown remake, or whatever the hell.

This guys wins, there is an interview on their site with Frankie dated April 9/8 about the direction of the franchise for 343, says there will be a big annoncement halo wise for microsoft.

Yep, I already linked to it.

Looks like there's nothing to see here.

Well they kind of already did the same thing last year with Reach going against Black Ops and Medal of Honor. It still sold exceptionally well.

reach came out 2 months before call of duty and medal of honor was a "new franchise" without a giant fanbase so it doesnt really compare

I remember hearing that the supposed remake would have "flashbacks levels" where you would play scenarios from the Chief's earlier missions, I.E. stuff from the books. Could be pure bullshit for all I know, but it would be an awesome way to curb the "rehash" feeling of the game.

Also, is 343 a full-fledged development studio? Would they be able to handle a project of this magnitude by themselves?

343i has a very large dream team of developers, focusing on what is believed to be the next real Halo game (not a remake). Either for this current console or the next (my money is on Halo 4 as a launch title for the next home console).

343i can make Halo the best FPS ever by fixing Bungie's shitty online. The biggest problem in Reach and all online Halos before it is players dropping out and matches dropping out of balance, a CoD-like join-anytime system completely removes this problem.

I really love Halo MP gameplay, but the online system is just too frustrating.

So, Gears of War, Halo, Homefront, Battlefield, Crysis? It's really depressing to be a shooter-hating Xbox 360 owner :/.

Plus 343i has the chance to bring something new and fresh to the series. Ideas and design philosophies not present at Bungie. Which can shake up the experience a lot.

Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid got remakes they didn't need a lot sooner than ten years after release.

RE1 was in desperate need of a remake, and the game was glorious. I wouldn't hold Twin Snakes up as an example of a "successful remake," despite really enjoying it.

I love Halo 1, but I don't feel any desire at all to play a remake. I just don't see what a remake is going to bring to the table, aside from expanded multiplayer options, better graphics, and huge sales. But I guess the latter is the point.

Personally, I'd prefer a Halo 2 remake. Would love to revisit Headlong, Containment, Turf, Burial Mounds and Terminal in HD.
More Halo is good news, just keep Armor Lock out of it and I'll be happy.

But imagine how big they could make The Library on current gen hardware!

I'm not too crazy about the remake either, I'd much rather have a brand new Halo game, but hey, if they release it, I'll play it. I replay Halo from time to time anyway.

should be Halo2 multiplayer only, live arcade, 720p, 360 live features added, BXR

Halo2 br
Lockout, Midship, Warlock
20$

Really? MS has another Halo game on the way? I'm fucking shocked :I
Well its not like I expected this post :P

There are bunch of talented guys over at 343 like M.E. Chung (Worked on Bioshock), Jesse Snyder (Worked on COD's Zombies), Kevin Franklin (Worked on Socom Franchise), Gavin Carter (Worked on Fallout 3), Scott Warner (Worked on Mercenaries) and a whole lot of other people. Info is scatterd over twitter.

Well, IIRC aegies was saying a few weeks back that there was a better looking game than Crysis 2 coming to 360 and it would be revealed in a month or two.

If this is something from 343i, given the technical staff they have there, it could be this.

Edit:

Homefront exclusive review? What the fuck?

Erm I think he was talking about Crysis 2 as his statement was as regards to Gear 3 being the best looking 360 game.

Personally, I think that they should forget about making a remake this year or this generation even, instead they should give us a Halo 4, as in the return of Master Chief, which I suspect will be the start of a new trilogy. This will have the benefit of introducing the franchise to new audience as well as retaining the old ones. It will also give 343i an avenue to safely try new ideas and introduce themselves to the Halo community. I feel that this is there 2012 fall game as I don't think it makes any financial sense to launch a new generation on an already established franchise, and the next major chapter to it at that. If the need for a Halo game at next gen's launch arises, then that will be a good time to release a CEmake as the first adopters would probably be previous owners of the Xbox brand and the install base would be too small for a major entry.

Does anyone else find it strange that Microsoft were able to lure so many lead designers to work on an existing IP that has seen no fewer than 5 entries (6 to be technical)?

If I were to buy my systems based on the official magazines I would never buy a 360. What a horrible image that cover invokes.

So Nintendo is remaking their golden child, OoT.
Microsoft is remaking their golden chid, Halo.
So I guess SotC is Sony's golden child if the HD ports count.

You can find fans in the strangest places :P

Remake? Already? It was released in the past console!

MS needs that money badly it seems.

Yeah, they dropped the money they made from the 8 million Kinect sales along with their car keys.

Get real, they're where they've always been - second place after Nintendo.

In concept i don't like FPS either, but Gears is no different from dozens of other 3rd person shooters like Resident Evil 5 (besides Gears playing MUCH better). If you hate Gears and Halo for being shooters, you must hate RE, Dead Space, Mass Effect, DeusEx, Half-Life, too.

Microsoft should stick to recycling 2005/2006 games like everyone else.

Online co-op and monitor compatibility alone would make me buy this :D

Still though, something tells me 343 will be showing off more than just Halo 4. Possibly something like ODST for this year/Halo 4 for 2012, perhaps something else entirely.

I think the Halo Wars franchise might be something they are looking into. They won't focus on sidestories for now though, Frankie said so.

Slightly off-topic but that is one of the worst covers I've seen of a gaming magazine in a long time. Reminds me of the late 90's early 00's mags where they just piled as much shit on as they could.

how about a new IP Microsoft or are we going to keep getting Halo, Fable and Forza sequels. Though I don't mind Gears they can make as many of those as they want.

No offense Kal, but doing this in every thread isn't really relevant. It always goes into circles, list wars and other non related shenanigans.

As I said in the Reach OT, this magazine apparently came out halfway through March, guys. If there was anything significant in it, wouldn't we have heard about it already?

If we're getting something Halo-related this year, it'll be revealed at E3. That said, I'm doubting we'll see anything.

Still better then a random shot of a woman standing in front of a white background.

Battflefield will be released at the end of year as well ?

Halo, GoW3, COD, Battlefield. This will be nasty.

This would be pretty much my GOTY 2011. However, I wonder about several things - AIand physics engines are waaaaaay more complex in Reach, would they try to implement them in Halo 1? What about more enemy types? I certainly wouldn't mind them (except Drones, I hate them), as well as a bit redesigned levels, especially the latter ones. For example, they could make Two Betrayals in a completely new environment I think.

Flawless Cowboy looking like Winter Contingency or better *drools*
