Rumour: 360 price cut in the UK this month?

199$ sounds like a sweet entry point...

why exactly would I get an elite or premium over an arcade (other than hdd).

Premium=350 euro
Elite=450 euro
Arcade=280 euro
Currently overpriced when compared to the 40 GB PS3. Here in germany you can get a PS3 Starter Pack (2 Controllers, Uncharted, Motorstorm) for less then 450 EUR (430 EUR at Ebay).

199 / 249 / 299 would be pretty much perfect for the time being.
This.

pretty much if you don't care about online gaming or downloading demos and backwards compatibility, then a 199 arcade would be the perfect console for you.

And, if after that you change your mind, with 99 you get the HDD, having totally paid no more than a Pro model.

I have a PS3 for all my online/demo needs

edit: so yea I could totally see myself picking up a 360 day one at 199 for games like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect and Dead Rising

This price drop needs to be bigger. I can't see it doing much. Sony went ahead with 2 decent price cuts and it has worked wonders for the PS3. MS should take note of this.

The first PS3 price cut was out of desperation (EDIT: although it was actually a cut on the discontinued 60gb model), and the second cut wasn't really a cut, it was a new SKU.

I'm sure if MS could and wanted to they'd cut the price further, but you know, they're a business. They want to remain profitable from now on I imagine.

I'm not really interested in sales most of the time, but I'm really curious about what the pricedrop will do in Europe when GTA hits. If this doesn't make the sales skyrocket...

I think Europeans are far more sensitive to price, especially when it comes to games as they arent quite as mainstream as they are in the US. Also when consoles get cheap enough people start picking them up as second consoles at 199euro it becomes an option.

The interesting thing will be if they do any movement on the US price.

It took me some time to dig this thread up... but:

According to Dutch retailers(E-Plaza, Bart Smit etc.) the Arcade will drop 80 euro in price and the premium will hit the 299 pricepoint on 14 March!

Arcade €199,-
Premium €299,-
Elite €399,-

The Wii costs €249,99 and the PS3 €399,99
The Xbox 360 will be cheaper than the Wii
Hm, that's a bit better than I thought it would be. Premium and Elite still need to be a little cheaper, but it's a start.

I hope this happens in NA as well.

It might be a psychological thing, but I have a hard time spending $279.99 for a replacement falcon unit if my current 360 bites the dust again. Yet I won't have any problem spending $199.99 on one.

Xbox core and arcade have been cheaper than Wii here in NZ since mid last year.

NZ $499 Wii
NZ $450 360 Core

Geez you guys are getting ripped on the wii. It's under $400 in Oz

Two Dutch toychains show new prices for the Xbox 360 in their advertising. The Xbox 360 Arcade will drop from €279,99 to €199,99. The Premium Xbox 360 will cost €299 instead of €399 and the Elite will drop to €399. The Intertoys folder shows the price for the Arcade.

I hope that they use this to show some Rare games as well. They are also in the UK

I am still confident that we will not see anythin Rare before E3 except MS does some Xbox event around May.

If it goes down to £150 retail I'd expect you could find it for £160-£170 with the Forza 2, Viva Pinata and extra wireless pad bundle. Good value.

Surely the 20gb/120gb hdd would get a price drop to ensure that there is a price advantage to buying the full console, rather than a bit at at a time?

It'll be interesting to see what MS announce at this press conference tomorrow. The 360 looks like it needs a shot in the arm at the moment, I think MS need a couple of price drops this year to get demand going. It'll be its third Xmas come December, it needs to be a lot cheaper than it currently is.

Cutting the price of the HDD would give the Arcade an even bigger price advantage.

That's true, my brain is currently fudged up from Cardiff getting to the semi-final of the FA Cup.

The Premium/Elite would have to get a price drop that ensures an Arcade + 20GB/120GB is less than a proper 360. I think that is what I was aiming for... possbily :s

I'm pretty sure MS (and other publishers, too) will do a private event around May. July is waaaaay to late to start hyping or simply show games coming out in autumn/winter, so I think many developers and publishers will find another way to do it (see UbiDays, for example)

Rare are the masters at hiding big project from their fans. Biggest tease ever.

Scribes is our only source of news on Rare. :(

No vid docs, no interviews... nothing. Just like the old days
