Man, fuck that. Some shitty ass business practices on display here if the rumor is true. I bought the wiiu for Zelda mainly so this feels like a slap in the face.

Waiting 7 days is not ideal. But U is a boutique console and I suspect the version will be solid.

I'll Probably still be gaming on U then too so feel your pain. But we're definitely getting it.

Gamepad will make it an epic experience too

And people bought a PS3 for FF Versus 13 and The Last Guardian. At least Wii U is getting Zelda BotW.

I've waiting so long for this game that I'm starting to lose interest in it.

Fuck Nintendo and their slow arse development and to have the Switch version release first is just taking the piss out of WiiU owners.

I guess this will be my last Nintendo game ever. I'm not investing in this company any more.

That does suck. If you didn't enjoy anything else on Wii U, I guess I'd advise in the future to only buy the system once the game you want is out, since pre-buying a system for a game is kind of like a bigger form of pre-ordering a game. I wonder if there were any people who bought a PS3 to play The Last Guardian or Versus XIII.... The game industry is rough on its customers sometimes. :/

Holy shit! We have a fucking defense force for this. Wii U version will be released a week later after Switch version, which means both version are more than ready to release simultaneously at that time but Nintendo is choosing to intentionally fuck over Wii U owners in order to sell a bunch of Switch hardware.

Unless you work or you are an investor in Nintendo, then how the fuck do you defend that?

This doesn't bother me, especially knowing there are other games (Mario!) that we haven't seen that will be available day one. If they pushed Zelda back to the holiday, that would just mean my 2017 holiday would be great. Let's just hope Trump doesn't start WW3 before then...talk about a delay....

1. It's a rumor.
2. Twilight Princess launched later on GCN in favor of the Wii version.

If you want the Wii U version and the release dates line up as the rumor suggests, then why would a week wait have such a significant impact? You can still get the game. Nothing is stopping anyone from that. Who is getting fucked over? Wii U owners can get that version. Switch owners can get the Switch version. No one loses. It's a week. Not a month, 6 months, or a year.

Wii U will be dead and buried by June 2017. It's lucky to be getting the game at all.

At this point people may as well say everything releasing for Switch in March should also be released on Wii U. Did FF Versus becoming FFXV and skipping over PS3 in favor of PS4 screw over PS3 owners? Did The Last Guardian? It's business. You don't have to like it, but it makes more financial sense to launch the software on the new and more viable piece of hardware than a dead platform. One week won't make a big difference in terms of reception on Wii U.

Eh. Oftentimes in these situations, publishers will just cancel the version for the dead hardware.

Didn't Pokemon Sun and Moon get released like a week later in EU than in NA? Did EU throw a shit storm and feel like they were "betrayed" and being "intentionally fucked over." They waited a week and its no ones throwing a hissy fit cause they're all too busy enjoying the game. I mean honestly how is this any different? How many times has NA or EU had to wait an extra week or two for games to come out that already released in other regions when they pretty obviously could have had a global launch? The game is still coming out on both systems, one week wont kill anyone. And this coming from someone who pre-ordered and bought a WiiU on day one.

As a WiiU owner, I´m not really bugged by this releasing one week after the Switched. Sure, it would´ve been a nice gesture for Nintendo to release it at the same time or even earlier for WiiU, but I can understand their reasons for not doing so and I might do the same thing if I were in their place. I bought a WiiU mainly for Bayonetta 2, MK8 and Zelda U so I should be mad that I may end not even buying this for WiiU and get it for Switch instead...but in these last years I´ve played so many unexpected amazing games (Splatoon, SMM, Tropical Freeze, 3D World, Metroid Prime Trilogy...) which have reinvigorated and elevated to new heights my love for gaming that I can´t really be mad: even without Zelda U I would feel immensely satisfied with my WiiU purchase and will eventually get a Switch.

I can understand other people in different situations hating this, specially if they didn´t enjoy their WiiUs as much as me.

This seems hard to get that worked up about. The game is releasing a week later, so what? At least you're still getting the game, when given the status of the Wii U, other publishers might cancel that version.

Ultimately I guess the question has to be raised are you a fan of Nintendo? If you're a fan of them, you'd want them to do what makes the most sense for their long-term sustainability. If that includes putting the Wii U version out later, so be it.

I assume that the kind folks in here are going to wait a week before buying the Switch version so that we can all experience the game together. The memories of community and friendship are surely worth the meager 1 week wait.

It's already something that they didn't simply cancel the Wii U version, like others company would have do (you know about who I'm talking). One week is nothing for the really few people who will buy the game on Wii U.

I'm actually surprised by the meltdowns over this considering the same thing happened with Twilight Princess except there was like a month's gap between the two versions. Wii U is actually getting a better deal, assuming the rumor is true.

I don't think this comparison makes much sense. Delaying Pokémon in Europe is just a dumb as delaying Zelda Wii U to sell the Switch version.

Look, if people don't think it's a huge deal that's one thing. I agree actually, I don't think it's that huge of a deal myself but I'm saying that as someone who's getting Switch at launch. However, this is just a business decision to get all the attention they can get for the Switch release. Maybe they're even afraid mainstream media will get something wrong again and say there's a Wii version or something at launch. Whatever the reasoning, it's still shitty for Wii U owners who have to wait one more week.

Some did throw a fit actually. And I mean, who could blame them? It sucks getting stuff later than other countries, though some obviously get over it easier than others. Regardless, I wouldn't generalize it as the EU in general "not throwing a shit storm", whatever that means, just as you shouldn't generalize it as a bunch of Wii U owners being really upset over this news just because of one thread. (Though they would have justification to feel that way, and it isn't even the same scenario as Sun and Moon anyhow)

Oh. So it's okay now because Nintendo has fucked over previous hardware owners before..

I can see the logic in that.

It's okay for them to shit on their existing customers because they've done it before?

How are they getting shit on? The game is still being released on the platform. Maybe a week later. If they cancelled the Wii U version that would be getting shit on. If anything this is a fart in the direction of Wii U owners.

A fairer comparison would be Titanfall then. Originally planned for 7th gen consoles, then for simultaneous release with One and 360 and PC, then they decided to delay the 360 version by a week and then to over a month when it was obviously ready so they could focus on the One version and market that one. 360 got completely swept under the rug and no one batted an eye.

I mean look at this thread after the first delay of the 360 version to two weeks after XOne launch: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=764732

The reactions are completely different. You'll find maybe one or two people in that thread thinking its "scummy" but 90% of it is "Expected, they want to focus on XOne" or "Smart Business move" or "Two weeks isn't that bad." Like its all a double standard right now.

Man this woman just can't be stopped!

There will be a day when another rumor comes up that says Ridley will be playable in Smash Switch. I hope to high heaven that rumor is delivered by her.

Assuming the delay is only one week for the Wiiu version, then I can guarantee you'll be able to buy it on the same Switch version date on any store willing to break the street date. Which pretty much means they all will since they won't want to have unsold wiiu BotW copies after everyone bought the Switch version.
Stores will have both versions at least a week in advance, so by the time the Switch version is officially able to be sold, the store would have already received the Wiiu version and I'll bet they'll sell that one too to whoever asks for it.

Only way it's an actual double standard imo is if you can point out the people specifically fine with it in that thread who are now suddenly upset in this one.

Oh come on it isn't "just a week" look how many times this game has been delayed over the years and to put it out after the Switch version which is probably one of the causes of the delay in the first place is the very definition of people who bought a Wii U to play Zelda.

It has only been delayed twice. Ocarina of time got delayed more times than this.

If they stagger the releases in the United States Nintendo can get rekt, I will only buy their products used from now on.

Hey, I can wait for used copies to pop up... but I'm not going to wait for Nintendo's fucking bullshit.

There is a double standard when it comes to Nintendo, I don't think anyone could deny that. People really care about Zelda, Mario and so on. So much so that they bought a Wii U just because they knew there would be a Zelda on that thing. Now, buying hardware before the software you want got released is irrational, but that's what happens if you really care about a hobby.

I think people are right to be angry about this, to a certain extent. Not having an exclusive Wii U Zelda in itself is Nintendo breaking one if its promises but at least there are a bunch of HD remasters to kinda make up for it. People just need to understand once and for all that Nintendo is a company just like any other company out there.

It has only been delayed twice. Ocarina of time got delayed more times than this.

What does that have to do with anything.

Honestly, I think most devoted fans already figured the game was going to the next-gen system too, like Twilight Princess. The GCN version of that game came at a later date too. We also have no idea how much more stuff was put into this massive game. The game will likely overall benefit from a later launch.

It is also noted that Nintendo never gave a date for the release in 2017.

See you again in 5 years for Zelda Switch :)

That move seems pretty unnecessary. If the two versions released on the same day, I doubt it would have any effect at all considering the Wii U has been dead for a long time. If we were talking about the 3DS, sure, but it seems like nothing good will actually come from this. I don't think they should go ahead with it.

I agre it's a shitty move, but its just a week.

It's easier to defend it if you already know that you're buying a Switch anyway. It further validates your decision.

A better question is how can someone find beef with that? Every Wii U owner is still able to buy Breath of the Wild for their console and play it. Nintendo hasn't cancelled it for Wii U and aren't forcing Wii U owners to buy a Switch for it.

Which isn't to say the separate release dates is ideal, so quite frankly, I'd say this is neither a condonable nor condemnable situation if the rumor is true.

Anyone portraying this as a huge betrayal rather than a slight nuisance of WiiU-only owners in June 2017 (!) is welcome to show me their Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV PS3 version that not only totally exists but also released on the sane date if not earlier because 'it was obviously finished earlier'!!!

Seriously if you portray this as so horrible, maybe any big publisher game with ambitions isn't for you.

LMAO, Skyward Sword was rated M in australia? What does GTA get then, XXX?

Australians need to check their shoes and toilet for nopes every day but a game like Skyward Sword is too much for people under 18? Rockatansky is disappointed.
M is not a restricted rating in Australia. Anyone can purchase it. Restricted ratings are MA 15+ and R 18 +. So you're wrong on every count there.

This feels like something people get really mad about then forget about it later on.

I think the only way I'll be personally offended is if they cancelled the Wii U version, since I'm one of those people that don't buy new consoles until much later in their lifetime.
