(Rumour) Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity

Sonic Team in Japan working on these spin offs.
Sonic Team USA making the main games.

This is fucked up, Sega.

seeing as the producer or whoever said they were making a sequel in an interview BEFORE THE FIRST ONE CAME OUT, this is like... a post-rumor?

I got given Sonic Riders on GC at some event for game designers, this was about 2 years ago, it's still in the shrink wrap. Not looking forward to this at all, hopefully it turns out good but with the way they've changed sonic, I doubt it will, I hate his 'cool' attitude.

Enough with all of these Sonic games, spinoffs included. What is it going to take for them to go back to the drawing board and reimagine Sonic? You can already see fan reaction at an all time low with the sales of the 360 and the PS3 title (and the Wii title didn't come close to equaling SA2 on the GC). Is it going to take diminishing profits before they finally are willing to give us a stellar game instead of another decent one with some upside and severe flaws? Are they even capable of that?

I never tried Sonic Riders. Wasn't it good, but too hard?

It was pretty much the definition of an average game. It wasn't particularly bad, there just wasn't really anything that made it stood out other than the fact that Sonic was in it.

I know times have changed, but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was created in the US. Sure, STI was a mix of US and Japanese talent...but so is Sonic Team USA today (different "talent", unfortunately).

Zero Gravity...like space...sort of like a galaxy...Galaxy?

Sega takes another L
Like in Nights?

Anyway, I'd like them to work on a great 2d game for consoles again. (I keep hoping, but I hear that's impossible because of Yuji Naka.)

Seeing as how you'll find a two-page preview on Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (for PS2 and Wii) on pages 68 and 69 in our (Play) Sept 07 issue... I'd call this a pretty crappy "rumor." (or "rumour" if you'd like.)

Serious? Awesome..hope the Wii is the lead system or..just use Sonic Wildfire engine.

Riders really was broken at it's core - altering a racing game to allow certain kinds of characters [Speed, Fly, Power] into specific routes was a horrible design decision. It just completely ruins the whole point of the. Kart racing game - Keep it simple, stupid.

I liked the first one even thought the AI got really cheap sometimes. I'm interested in seeing how they improve on it if in fact it is true.

Vicious AI and an overly-picky ramp jumping system didn't help, either. Still, I liked all the different vehicles you could employ (the boards,
air shoes ala Shadow
,
scooters
, and even a
magic carpet
), and it's one of the few Sonic games to actually have multiplayer bots, for arena-style battle modes no less.

This is most likely a predictable ten-second cash in, reusing the engine and assets and building a few new tracks, with a few more characters. Still, Wii tilting controls and some tweaks to the formula could help it loads.

As long as I'm not the lead producer, Sonic will never regain his former glory.

It's a claim we can all safely make. :P

You know what would be better..a New Sonic Heroes..that game was a decent Sonic spin off and a game I think would work great with the Wiimote.
