Rumour - The Last of Us 2 will launch in 2019

Alanah Pierce the SJW warrior that had IGN on lockdown and then had one of the more beloved IGN editors fired because he was drunk and asked a girl out. And then she quit IGN.
Ugh. Beyond lame if true, but somehow sounds too stupid to not be.

I think that Sony is planning one or two huge events this year, which is why they're skipping E3 so that all the focus will be on them without any rival companies announcing things around the same day. One will be to announce the release dates for The Last Of Us 2, Ghost Of Tsushima and Death Stranding any other will be to reveal the PlayStation 5.

If it was 60% complete in 2017, it should be 100% at some point this year.

TLOU2 has been worked on in some form since the original launched in 2013. That's 6 years of development time.

I've always wondered what "X%" complete means (i.e. how it is measured, given the possibilities of unexpected delays or the challenges of estimating certain task requirements).

I think the X% done thing is a very loose figure given in answer to when the inevitable question is asked.

Pretty much what I figure too, but there must be some method they use to come up with the "safest" estimate they can, and I'm curious what it might be (I'm sure it varies from developer to developer).

I just don't think they do it anymore. Sony had so many delays with their games (albeit small ones to be fair) they stopped giving dates. Even to the point of not giving release years with this last crop. The last big AAA WWS game to release was GoW and that got its release date announced ~3 months out?

That's probably what I would do if it were my decision. Or I'd give a date significantly in excess of what I expected so that everyone would be pleasantly surprised when I got it out "early."

i can't imagine it launching this year. it would surely have been announced by now.

it'll be 2020 just at the arse end of this generation so than can try punt us all the remastered PS5 edition.

Announce in June and release in the Fall (not saying this going to happen but I don't see why not), this is going to sell 10+m units not even breaking a sweat and it doesn't matter when they release it or how much lead time is given. I would suspect most of the games will be playable on both the PS4/PS4 Pro/5, meaning you will get downloadable enhancements for the PS5, kind of like Pro patches.

Logically, some of this is based on whether the game is done and PS5 projected launch date, which even they might not even know yet. Either way, Sony needs to get some of these games out over the next 18 months as there is going to be a whole log jam coming - which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Ghost (2020/21)
Death Stranding (2020)
Killzone Next (2020/21)
God of War 2 (2021/22)
Horizon 2 (2021/22)
Uncharted Next by San Diego (2022/23)
Next Naughty Dog IP (2021/22)
Days Gone 2 (if 1 does well) (2021/22) - probably already in pre-production
Japan Studios - over due for something
Spiderman 2 - ?

Gravity rush 3 for PS5 Launch Please :messenger_crying:.

TLOU2 2019 on PS4 as a last swan song.

TLOU2 4K remaster + DLC/GOTY edition for PS5 2020.

It's the same strategy we saw at the beginning of this gen with HD remakes of games.

No. It will be just the same game, also playable on PS5, but with extras. Sony are going to adapt to BC being a natural consumer expectation. About time, too.

i don't know what to think. i am happy we're getting BC but so many companies made a lot of money this generation from selling remasters. GTA, TLOU, Uncharted, Borderlands, Tomb Raider, Burnout, God Of War 3, Sleeping Dogs, Skyrim....to name a few.

if we can just keep playing our PS4 games then there isn't really any need for remasters. if studios are gonna update games to take advantage of the PS5 hardware i can't see them releasing a separate version of the game. if they do what they did with the PS4 Pro then they can't charge for these updates. in an ideal world yes they would do just that and release a patch to update the game but again that's a lot of money they are missing out on. i just hope they don't start charging for these updates.

Kinda makes sense, in this world of cray cray gaming marketing ..

Sony going for the double dip market it seems. Those that will purchase it as a last swansong for PS4 and suckers like me who will purchase it again on PS5.

Melee\ Gameplay animator, Multiplayer server/gameplay programmer, character rigger

I'm going to guess that a lot of this has to do with multiplayer. I think this will have support for at least a year and that's what this team is going to work on.

I can still see this game releasing in 2019.

Hopefully they are just showing these job openings late.
