Rumoured New God of War 3 Details

God of War with... no Jaffe, no Barlog, the combat director of the first two games isn't there anymore.... I fear the third one.. I hope there won't be an online mode, I don't want a shittier single player because of that. And the camera was perfect, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

But for those saying that Kratos is a loner, remember that he has a brother so.. co-op could make sense.

This is clearly my most anticipated game this gen, don't let me down Sony. Oh and I believe it will be the most impressive game ever. No doubt about that.
 
Damn it. This game is going to overshadow KZ2's visuals as soon as it's finally about to release. Making it that much less special for me.

I'm almost positive that God of War 3 is going to manage to blow everyone away regardless of the high expectations. They just don't disappoint. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but is there an estimate on the release date? 2009, right?

I think they'd do well to do something like R2's co-op. Separate co-op from the main story and let us play as normal spartans. Gameplay would be a lot different, but I think it could work if they were creative enough.

I think SamBishop put the final nail in the coffin on the "KZ2 could have come out this year" rumor. If they had ample time to finish, they would have at least got in some form of co-op considering what the director said awhile ago. It's pretty disappointing that they didn't as even Killzone Liberation had co-op, albiet it was adhoc.
 
Wasn't there a storyline rumor way back before GoW2 was released involving Kratos having a brother? I remember being a little impressed with it, so it probably wasn't that cheesy. It'd be awesome to have the sons of Zeus team up to take him down.

I could see co-op QTEs being pretty awesome too. Plus, it would freshen up the series a little (not that it really needs it).

Co-op or no co-op, it's still gonna be a freakin' GoW game. :D

Yeah but again, R2's single player feels rushed ... it's not as good as R1's campaign, it lacks the polish I was expecting from Insomniac. The God of War team has A LOT to live up to, it's a next gen sequel to motherfucking God of War 2 ....

Well looking at the multiplayer portion of the game alone, the last round of beta testing that started close to a month ago (I think) was apparently a 3 month old build! Of course the extra months will help with the polish, but you can keep adding months and months and the game will always get better. Sooner or latter you just have to release the game.

They seem to fix/improve stuff really quick. The build the journalists got to play is already old and according to GG they've made big visual improvements since then. And journalists got to play it in mid November.

Wish I could get more excited, but the previous games had some pretty terrible combat systems I can't say I've got high hopes. Yes it will look better than NG2/DMC4 but I seriously doubt it will play better.

I don't think SotC did anything that people thought couldn't be done. If you put really nice looking big things on a screen, you're going to run at 5-10 fps, which is what that game did. The AI for the Colossi was nothing crazy, so it's not like the game was looking amazing, running smoothly and had complex algorithms being executed throughout.

The game's presentation was amazing, but lets not pretend that it did something that it didn't.

It could at least be the first big action game this gen to actually surpass its predecessor, though. NG2 and DMC4 were both steps down from their preceding games.

Boggles your mind eh? Uhmm Kratos uses two badass blades that he swings by chains. The combat system bothers you? Why did you play part 2 then? It was pretty much the same type of combat. The combat didnt change throughout the game it was the same from beginning to end.
Then you type 'seriously doubt' it will play better?

I don't know about NG2 (never played it) but I would have to agree on DMC4. I was a really big fan of the series and one of the things I loved about it was the combat system. I really think they screwed it up with DMC4 though, it just didn't feel the same.

I think with God of War 3, Santa Monica will focus on visuals and the animations to a large extent, I don't think they will mess with the combat system all that much.
 
So the best looking game on PS2 last gen is going to be the best looking again this gen. I can dig it.

All I need now is a Team ICO game to make my gaming life complete. :D

I know I'm in the minority but I think the combat system in NG2 was leaps and bounds above NG's, that combined with the fact people seem to forget the frustrating moments and the shittiness of the bosses in the first game meant that I enjoyed NG2 more.

Of course given that the standards of presentation are supposedly outstandingly high and the new combat direct GoW3 could very well be the first game in the series I really enjoy.

I think he's saying whether it will play better than DMC4 and NG2. He's one of *those guys* that looks down on the God of War franchise as being "button-mashey" I'm sorry, both of those franchises are well put together and the combat systems are pretty rewarding if you master them, but I've had much more FUN with the God of War games. To each his own though.

See that's what I'm trying to find out here. You cannot use one button mashes on all the enemies in God Of War. You have to do do combo chains to get effective results. Then the comment of the combat system is horrible based on what? Because he didn't like it?

Holy fuck... I played through the games because I think it's a solid franchise, I enjoyed the games, I got them cheap and I generally try to complete everything I buy. My post was in response to someone who said it would be a better game than DMC4/NG2 I responded like I did because I don't believe GoW will ever be a better *game* because the gameplay is fundamentally worst than that in the other two franchises. I "seriously doubt" it will be better because you even fucking said yourself that the gameplay was practically identical in the other two lead titles in the franchise, thus I am crazy for assuming the same will happen again? Even then I rectified my comment once I learnt it's a possibility that the combat mechanics might change seeing as a new combat director/

See how baseless your post it? But eh, the game must be awesome because Kratos are t3h super weapon swinging badass.

The combat in God of War is nowhere near as deep as the combat in NG/DMC. But it is still oh-so satisfying! I personally don't want major changes to the combat for GoW3.

But it's all about opinions.. keep the war elsewhere guys, it will never end. I think God of War is better than NG & DMC, but I won't fight about it.

I'd like to see it get a bit more complex. After playing through NG on Master Ninja, GoW felt like baby-mode.

Depends on if they want this game to reach a wider audience or tailor it to the hardcore.

I imagine the former will be the case.

I'll definitely agree that R2 was a disappointment, but if there was any redeeming quality of that game it was how they handled co-op. I just think it'd be a good way to fit it into the series.

Your baseless. You didnt quote anyone so how would anyone else know what you were referring to? You are not the judge of gameplay for all of us. Your opinion it is isn't it? Your posting strictly stated God of War gameplay is broken. I asked based on what? What is it in the game do you consider broken?
The games ARE awesome. Why do you think we have a thread like this? Its the third iteration of a great franchise. The combat mechanics will not change for you thank god.
More complex but thats to be expected.

I'll translate here again. He thinks it's broken in the same way that Street Fighter or Tekken fans think that Mortal Kombat's game system is broken. Basically it's lightweight and doesn't require the mastering that those games have. Which is true to an extent. But for me it's about fun, not frustration in learning a combat system.
 
I'd like to see this game sell well and move some hardware, but at the same time I hope they make the combat a bit more complex. Maybe tie it to the environment/surroundings more (pull a pillar down on enemies, knock them off cliffs, etc.) that's real-time gameplay and not just QTE material. I think some weapon-switching in combos (if I'm wording that right, like DMC3 had) would be very welcome.

I'm not just oozing with excitement to actually play it at the moment, but I'm really intrigued as to how the game looks.
 
Combat isn't the only part of GoW's gameplay.

It's got puzzles and platforming too.

Those three gameplay elements combined with great level design and pacing surpass the one dimensional gameplay and terrible levels/pacing of NG2 and DMC4 by a longshot
 
What i would like to see is maybe some environmental qte(throw pillars and such), or some QTE that allows you to set up special moves when certain combinations of enemies are together, something like that(that would be an animator's nightmare though, lol) Taking QTE to the next level.

That and/or an armor/accessory customizability deal a la kingdom hearts.

But what i DON'T want is GoW to start trying to imitate NG or DMC. I can't stand it when action game elitists knock GoW for a lack of depth in combat. GoW isn't one of those hardcore combo machine games. It's more like a brutal Zelda with a splash of DMC.
 
Don't make co-op standard, ala RE5
-Do it old-school with a Kratos character dressed in a different colored outfit and double the enemies

Leave the camera dear god; it is godly. They better not screw it up.

Co-op in a God of War? Hell no. There isn't anyone comparable next to Kratos that he needs help with fighting. Fuck that. It should be an entire single player experience with leaderboards. Nothing more. It's like asking for DMC4 or NG2 for co-op which would fuck up the entire concept of the character in use of the game (yes, Nero and Dante in a co-op just doesn't even sound right). Hell, I'll go even further to say Bioshock was the best single player experience I've had in a game. Fuck co-op.

Co-op doesn't really have to have Kratos. Two asskicking spartans will do just as well

Yeah, but... I believe now all the blog stuff. The guy tell me that is amazing, like CG quality (and over KZ2). Maybe not 100% ingame camera, but real time. "Awesome, simply awesome, hard to believe it´s real time".

Can´t wait to see by myself.

To add to that, the latest Sony commercials I've seen are so subtle when it comes to the actual games. I really think they'd do well to show God of War 3 footage (taking up the whole screen, not just a glimpse of Kratos on some dude's shirt) with "coming soon", and some Killzone 2 multiplayer footage. I can see the confusion that might ensue with shoppers who assume these games are out and then can't find them when they go Christmas shopping, but since this is the most prominent Christmas season yet for Blu-ray, tout the crap out of that aspect with those awesome-looking games as a side-note. Other games like LBP could use an extra push.

Maybe Sony has more specific game-focused advertising in mind with the rumored upcoming price drop.
